  • In eliminating the nonlinear characteristics such as piston displacement dift and difference in speeds of the reciprocating motion due to their nonsymetrical structure of single rod cylinder, the linear model can be given by equivalent outside disturbance, etc. The position control method of single rod cylinder servosystem using the sliding mode control of VSS was suggested and the good results without off-set are compared with PD control of fixed structure system.

  • A continuous variable structure system control for a DC servomotor tracking controller is proposed to alleviate the chattering problems. The stability property of the proposed algorithm is analyzed in detail. The prescribed tracking error is guaranteed under load variations based on the stability analysis. Through the comparative simulations between the proposed algorithm and the conventional VSS, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is proved.

  • In this paper we present a variable structure systeme-model following adaptive control (VSS-MFAC) method for an uncertain turbo-generator system which is apt to suffer from the unmodeled parameter uncertainties and the external disturbances. The simulation results for the power system stabilizer(PSS) exhibit robust adaptive model-following properties well in the PSS designed by the proposed VSS-MFAC methodology when a step change in the mechanical torque and a parameter variation is applied.

  • 비선형 동적 시스템을 제어하기에 적합한 귀환 신경망에 대한 연구는 안정성(stability) 유도와 학습 알고리듬(learning algorithm) 개발의 두가지 방향으로 지금까지 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 비선형 동적 시스템 제어시 온라인(on-line) 학습이 가능하고 안정성을 보장하도록 귀환 신경망의 학습 알고리듬에 VSS이론을 도입하여 개발한다. 또한 개발한 학습 알고리듬을 사용한 귀환 신경망을 전형적인 비선형 동적 시스템인 로보트 매니퓰레이터의 제어 시스템에 적용하고 기존의 학습 방법의 적용 결과와 비교하여 개발한 제어 알고리듬의 효용성을 입증한다.

Sewage sludge solubilization using ultrasonic combined with calcium peroxide (초음파/과산화칼슘(US/CaO2)을 이용한 하수슬러지 가용화)

  • In order to investigate the degree of sewage sludge solubilizaion using ultrasonic(US) combined with calcium peroxide(CaO2), VSS reduction rate, solubilization rate, SCOD/VSS ratio, SCOD increasing rate, LB-EPS(Loosely-Bound EPS) and TB-EPS(Tightly-bound EPS) were measured. US was compared as a control. Solubilization rate increased by 23.4% under US and increased by 50.7% under US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS). and also, at the same conditions, VSS reduction rate increased by 7.1% and 17.7%, respectively. SCOD increasing rate from 10 to 90 minutes was 0.0151 min-1 under US/CaO2(0.02 g CaO2/g VSS). TB-EPS decreased by 36.4% under US and decreased by 59.0% under US/CaO2(0.05 g CaO2/g VSS). TB-EPS decreased during first 10 minutes and then decreased slowly until 90 minutes. There was no significant difference in TB-EPS decrease according to the dosage of calcium peroxide.

  • In this paper, the dynamics of actuators for generating the input of plants is considered in a design of the variable structure systems. While the input for plants is usually implemented by means of a certain actuator, the actuator dynamics is not incorporated in most of the VSS researches until now. The control algorithm of a VSS incorporating actuator dynamics is presented, and the simulation is given to show the usefulness of the algorithms.

Variable stability system control law development for in-flight simulation of pitch/roll/yaw rate and normal load

  • This paper describes the development of variable stability system (VSS) control laws for the KFA-i to simulate the dynamics of KFA-m aircraft. The KFA-i is a single engine, Class IV aircraft and was selected as an in-flight simulator (IFS) aircraft, whereas the KFA-m is a simulated aircraft that is based on the F-16 aircraft. A 6-DoF math model of KFA-i aircraft was developed, linearized, and separated into longitudinal and lateral motion for VSS control law synthesis. The KFA-i aircraft has five primary control surfaces: two flaperons, two all movable horizontal tails, and one rudder. Flaperons are used for load control, the horizontal tails are used for pitch and roll rate control, and the rudder is used for yaw rate control. The developed VSS control law can simulate four parameters of the KFA-m aircraft simultaneously, such as pitch, roll, yaw rates, and load. The simulation results show that KFA-i follows the responses of KFA-m with high accuracy.

  • Recently, many researchers have studied the VSL decision method using traffic information in multiple detector zones. However, this method selects incorrect VSL starting points, leading to the selection of the wrong speed control zone and calculation of the wrong VSL, causing traffic congestion. Eventually, the Unstable VSL system causes more congestion on the freeway. This paper proposes an improved VSL algorithm stably operated in multiple detector zones on the Korea highway. The proposed algorithm selects a preliminary VSL start station (VSS) expected to end the congestion using the acceleration of stations. It also determines the VSS at each congestion area. Finally, it calculates the VSL relative to the determined VSS and controls the vehicles that enters the traffic congestion zone. The developed strategy is compared with Real-time Variable Speed Limits for Urban Freeway (RVSL) to test the stability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the proposed algorithm resolves the problems of the existing algorithm, demonstrated by the correct VSS decision and the reduction of total travel time by 1-2 minutes.

  • Knowing the time of the process change could lead to quicker identification of the responsible special cause and less process down time, and it could help to reduce the probability of incorrectly identifying the special cause. In this paper, we propose a maximum likelihood estimator of the process change point when a Shewhart $\bar{X}$ chart with variable sample size (VSS) scheme signals a change in the process mean. Also we build a confidence interval for the process change point by using the likelihood function.
