  • As a variety of HMD(Head Mounted Display) has come out, the production of 3D images onto which VR(Virtual Reality) technologies are grafted has been contributed to activating the production of image contents depending on a tangible or immersing type. VR-based image contents have enlarged their applicability across the entertainment industry from animation and game to realistic images. At the same time, the solution development for producing VR image contents has also gained elasticity. However, among those production solutions which have been used until now, fixed stereo camera based photographing has a limit that the binocular disparity of a user is fixed. This does not only restrict a way of expression a producer intends to direct, but also may cause the effect of 3D or space not to be sensed enough as view condition is not considered enough in a user's side. This study is aimed at resolving with skills applying in the latter part of 3D image production the problem that convergence points may be adjusted with restriction, which tends to happen at the time of the production of VR image contents. The later stage of the 3D imaging work analyzes and applies to game engines the significance of adjusting convergence points through the visualization of binocular disparity so that it is available to implement a function that the points could be controlled at random by a user.

  • As success stories of using virtual reality (VR) have become more prevalent, interest in performance-related technology has rapidly increased around the world. Performances such as, Cirque du Soleil had much success in using video technology, these VR applications have enabled experiences using digital image technology. However, critics have claimed that the completeness and diversity of visual content is reduced, due to insufficient storylines, spatial composition, and partial use of the entire visual field. Therefore, the design of a performance using digital image technology should consider the characteristics of the production stage to be different from real world performances. In this study, the visual space of the stage, the method of creating space for the stage, and the movement of the performer and utilization of the performance was analyzed. Through this, It transferred the limitation of the traditional stage into the space and time of the image and opened the possibilities of the tran-media.

  • In the disaster prevention design, it is important point to secure escape way at event of fire which makes people away from the fire more quickly and safely. Development of construction techniques leads to build many skyscrapers, and skyscrapers contains various dangers and increase levels of disaster. At basic design stage for skyscrapers, evacuation scenario is considered that occupants are escape using escape stairs and emergency elevators simultaneously at fire, but there is no evacuation program to simulate using escape stairs and emergency elevators at the same time. In this study, evacuation simulation is performed using method of VR which is based on Virtools of 3DVIA Co., and Simulex of IES Co. for safety and effectiveness where occupants are escape using escape stairs and emergency elevators simultaneously at the fire.

  • Petroglyphs is an essential part of the worldwide cultural heritage since it plays a key role for the comprehension of prehistoric communities previous to writing. nowadays 3D data are a critical component to permanently record the form of important cultural heritage so that they might be passed down to future generations. Recent 3D scanning technologies allow the generation of very realistic 3D model that can be used for multimedia museum exhibitions to attract the users into the 3D world. In this paper, we develop the 3D petroglyph VR contents based on a novel gesture recognition method. The proposed gesture recognition method can recognizes the movements of the user using 3D depth sensor by comparing with the pre-defined movements. Also this paper presents new approaches for 3D petroglyphs data recording using 3D scanning technology as accurate and non-destructive tools.

  • Visual Reality technology is becoming more and more interesting as it attracts people's interest. VR technology is used in various markets such as games, animation, and education. However, there were many people experiencing motion sickness such as dizziness and headache due to the delay time between hardware such as a device for sending a video after experiencing a VR image and an HMD for reproducing an image. The system proposed in this paper focuses on the environment rather than the movement of the attraction and detects the dividing line existing on the path by the proximity sensor and accurately calculates the position on the path according to the user 's motion. Since the position of the user is synchronized with the VR image, the position error of the user is improved to 0.2%.

  • In this study, 46 patients from a local hemodialysis center were enrolled to assess the effects of a self-motivated virtual reality (VR) exercise program on the heart rate variability and quality of life control in hemodialysis patients. The VR group (n = 23) completed a VR exercise program, where the subjects performed the exercise 40 min per session, 3 sessions per week, for 8weeks. After the exercise program, the heart rate variability and quality of life were measured. The VR group showed significant improvement in the heart rate variability and quality of life. The self-motivated VR exercise program provided both the role of supervisor as well as feedback, which is important for hemodialysis patients. Therefore, a self-motivated VR exercise program may be a useful tool for improving the psychosocial function in chronic disease patients undergoing hemodialysis.

  • In recent years, realistic contents technology such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality has been spreading in travel and tourism industries, and hence there have been various smart tourism AR, VR contents developed. In the past, people mainly used books and Internet for travel, but the use of VR, AR and MR technologies will be used more for consumption of cultural leisure contents in the future. This study describes the Mixed Reality based Baekje Neungsa Cultural Heritage On-Site Guide System to accelerate smart tourism. In this study, the immersive mixed reality HMD was used to provide visitors with more intuitive and effective information about the historical, cultural and architectural values of Baekje Neungsa through virtual experiences. The cultural heritage on-site guide system module supports various Meta Data services and can be easily used for mixed reality content development by designating Meta Data scripts. This research can make contributions to the development of mixed reality based smart tourism contents.
