기존의 VOD 서비스는 machine에 기반한 서비스를 제공해 왔다. 사용자의 이동을 고려하지 않았던 것이다. 사용자의 이동에 따른 VOD 서비스를 위해서는 Location-Awareness와 사용자수준의 hand-off를 지원하는 기법이 필요하다. 위치인식기술은 Hardware 센서를 포함하므로 본 논문에서는 application level에서 사용자의 이동성을 지원하는 기법을 제안하고 간단한 prototype 시스템을 구현한다. 이를 위해서 코드 자체가 이동하는 지니 기술의 Plug & Work 개념을 활용하였다. 구현된 시스템은 사용자의 이동에 따라서 서비스가 이동하여 지속적인 VOD서비스를 제공해 줄수 있다.

본 논문에서는 멀티미디어·하이퍼미디어 표준 MHEG을 이용하여 차세대 영상 서비스 기술인 VOD(Video-on-Demand) 시스템을 구현하였다. 기존의 VOD 시스템과는 달리 다른 여러 가지 멀티미디어 서비스로의 확장성을 고려하여 MHEG의 데이터 구조를 이용하여 VOD 시스템의 데이터를 표현하고 이를 처리하기 위한 MHEG 엔진을 구성하였다. MHEG 객체를 이용하여 데이터를 처리하면 정확성이 보장되므로 다른 서비스를 추가할 경우 기존의 객체에 다른 서비스를 위한 객체만을 추가하면 된다. 이렇게 구성된 객체를 MHEG 엔진을 이용하여 처리함으로써 시스템에 독립적인 시스템의 구현이 용이하였다. 구체적인 MHEG 엔진의 설계를 위하여서는 기존의 LAN 상에서 구현한 VOD 시스템이 사용되었다.

D-CATV VOD service provides various contents such as drama and movie with high quality regardless of time and place. As the usage time of the VOD service increases, the viewing time of real-time terrestrial broadcasting is shortened. As the demand for VOD service is high and the number of digital users is increasing, the VOD market is rapidly growing. Therefore this study investigates the age and gender analysis of digital cable TV users and analyzed the usage patterns and audience cases of users. VOD service has been shown to be used by many users for the first time through remote control and free coupons. Non-users of VOD service did not use it because of charge and did not feel the necessity, but some non-users did not recognize the free VOD service.

This paper deals with a longitudinal time series study on the viewing behavior of digital media service. After holdback of terrestrial broadcasting VOD service was extended in 2013, viewers' terrestrial broadcasting VOD viewing went down sharply. Researcher assumed that there was driven by watching alternative products such as movies, kids, etc. as the cause of the decline of the terrestrial broadcasting VOD viewing. In addition, researcher assumed that the decline of terrestrial broadcasting VOD viewing had an influence on the viewing rate of the terrestrial real-time broadcasting, and confirmed the cause of the decreasing of the terrestrial real-time broadcasting viewing rate. In order for terrestrial broadcasters to retrieve real-time broadcasting and VOD viewing, it is necessary to shorten the VOD holdback and reacquire viewers away from terrestrial broadcasting.

최근 ITU와 FS-VDSL 등의 국제 표준 기구에서 ATM과 IP 기반에서 VDSL 기술을 이용한 VOD 서비스 실현을 위해 서비스, 망 구조 및 프로토콜 등에 대해 연구가 진행 중에 있다 본 논문에서는 ATM/VDSL 기반의 VOD 서비스 제공을 위해 종단간 ATM 모델의 망 구성과 프로토콜 스택을 제시하고 분석한다. 그리고, 이 모델에 대해 IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol)HTSP(Real Time Streaming Protocol)와 DSM-CC (Digital Storage Media Command and Control) 을 이용하는 서버와 셋탑박스 간의 VOD 서비스 신호 절차를 제안하고 분석한다.

As the growth rate of IPTV VOD usage increases it is necessary to analyze VOD usage patterns systematically. This study divides VOD users into free VOD and paid VOD users, then explores how VOD usage motivations, usage patterns, and demographic factors affect the differences between two groups. The results show that social motivation, VOD satisfaction, using content after the holdback expiration, an intention to pay for ad-skip, the proportion of VOD usage, a VOD give-up experience, TV usage time, and SVOD usage time, are statistically significant. Except the VOD satisfaction factor, all of the factors analyzed are more likely to expect paid VOD users. Additionally this study found paid VOD users are more likely to use a SVOD service as an alternative one compared with free VOD users.

As various portable digital devices are developed, the space of the TV audience is expanding. We propose a structure of broadcasting control in VOD service in which viewers can resume the viewing of digital broadcasting contents in different devices after they have stopped the viewing to move to another place. Then we design a session and resource management system of VOD for this control. In particular, we design the session management of each consumer and simulate the seamless VOD connection model.

초고속인터넷 접속서비스 시장이 성숙 단계에 접어듬으로써 성장세는 급격히 둔화되고 경쟁환경은 심화되는 과정에서 통신사업자들이 기존의 신규가입자 유치 위주의 정책에서 벗어나 초고속인터넷 가입자 인프라를 기반으로 새로운 부가 서비스 및 차별화 된 서비스의 개발을 통해 가입자 확대 및 ARPU(Average Revenue Per Unit)를 중대 시킬 수 있는 수익원 개발이 절실하다. 이러한 상황하에서 통신방송 융합 서비스는 통신사업자에게 기회와 위협이라는 상반된 현상으로 다가오고 있다. TV-based VOD 서비스는 보다 양질의 멀티미디어 서비스를 원하는 고객의 수요와 신규 고객을 유치하고 가입자를 Lock-in 시키며, 타 통신 사업자의 고객을 자사 고객으로 전환시키고자 하는 차별화 전략의 일환으로 도입되기 시작하였고, 또한 ARPU를 증대 시키고 다양한 수익원 개발의 일환으로 인터넷 접속서비스 외에 부가가치를 창출 할 수 있는 Killer Service로서 주목을 받고 있다. TV VOD 사업이 성공적으로 국내 시장에 정착될 경우, 통신사업자에게는 여러 형태의 수익원 발굴이 가능할 것으로 예상된다. 즉 가입비, 월 이용료, 부가 사용료 등과 같은 포괄적인 형태의 가입비가 주된 수익원이 될 것이이며, pay-per-view(PPV) 형태의 이용료 역시 주된 수익원이 될 것이다. 이 외에도 셋톱박스, 홈게이트웨이/서버 등과 같은 단말기의 임대와 판매를 통한 수익 창출방안과 다른 서비스들과 마찬가지로 광고도 중요한 수익원천으로 활용 할 수 있을 것이며 또한 미디어업체 또는 CP(contents provider)를 대상으로, 보안, 인증, 과금, 결제, 회원 관리, 이용정보 제공 서비스 등도 사업자의 수익원으로 활용할 이 있을 것이다. TV-based VOD 서비스는 망 진화에 따른 차세대 초고속인터넷 서비스 기술인 VDSL이나 Advanced 케이블모뎀을 이용 DVD 급 고화질의 TV-based VOD 서비스가 시작되면서 ARPU를 증대 시키고 다양한 수익원 개발의 일환으로 인터넷 접속서비스 외에 부가가치를 창출 할 수 있는 Killer Service로서 VOD서비스가 주목을 받고 있다. TV-based VOD 서비스는 가입자망의 진화 와 밀접하게 연관되어 전개되는 서비스로 Post-ADSL에 대한 예측과 VOD에 서비스에 대한 설문조사 결과를 토대로 하여 예측 한 바에 의하면 Post-ADSL 가입자는 2003년 153만명에서 2004년 444만으로 증가하고 2006년 987만 명에 이를 것으로 전망되고, VOD서비스 가입의향도 16%에서 2006년 34% 까지 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 VOD서비스 가입자는 2003년 24만 명에서 2004년 98만으로 증가하고 2006년 335만 명으로 증가하는 것으로 예측되었다.

VOD (Video-On Demand) Services are considered to be one of the most successful data broadcasting services, along with Electronic Program Guides (EPGs). In particular, VOD services provide supplementary revenue for broadcasting companies in addition to the existing subscription fees and advertisement-based revenue. Therefore, each broadcasting company has developed its own VOD service and constantly seeks to improve it. This leads to the development of new VOD services, so developers are considering ways to effectively handle the frequent development needs. In this background, we conducted underlying research to apply the feature-oriented analysis model to the development of VOD services. The feature-oriented analysis model used in this study is the Feature-Oriented Domain Analysis (FODA) one developed by SEI of Carnegie Mellon University. FODA provides a tool for specifying the feature model of a software domain, based on which the developers can determine the configuration of the software with the customers. This study developed a feature model of the VOD service domain and devised the functionalities and test cases in an integrated manner with the feature model. Additionally, we proposed a VOD service development process utilizing the feature model, function specification, and test cases.

VOD 서비스를 원활히 제공하기 위해서는, 대용량의 멀티미디어 데이터를 전송할 수 있는 고속의 네트워크의 구축과 더불어, 날로 증가하는 사용자들의 요구를 수용할 수 있는 서버가 요구된다. 그러나 단일서버의 VOD 시스템은 고장 발생 시, 서비스를 중단해야 할 뿐만 아니라, 늘어나는 서비스 요청에 효과적으로 대응할 수 있는 확장성 또한 유연하지 않아서, 클러스터링 기술을 적용한 VOD 서버가 그 대안으로 인식되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 리눅스를 이용한 클러스터링 VOD 서버와 관련하여, 미디어 스트라이핑 방법과 서버 설계 및 구현 과정에 대하여 기술한다.
