Functional outcomes in children with reduction glossectomy for vascular malformations - "less is more!"

  • Objectives: Vascular malformation (VM) of the tongue can cause true macroglossia in children. Reduction glossectomy provides primary relief when sclerotherapy has failed or is not possible. In this study, we evaluated the surgical role in functional outcome of reduction glossectomy performed for VM of the tongue. Patients and Methods: We evaluated the functional and surgical outcomes of seven children who were treated at a tertiary care centre in Southern India between 2013 and 2018. Results: Six children underwent median glossectomy, while one child underwent lateral glossectomy. Functional assessment was performed at least 2 years after the date of surgery. At the time of assessment, speech was comprehensible for three children and was occasionally unintelligible in four children. Taste and swallowing were normal in all seven children. Six children exhibited a minimal residual lesion after surgery, of which only one was symptomatic. Residual lesions were managed with sclerotherapy (n=3), observation (n=2), or repeat surgery (n=1). Conclusion: Reduction glossectomy in children with macroglossia secondary to VMs has acceptable outcomes in terms of cosmesis and speech, with no gastronomic restriction.

  • The cloud computing paradigm introduced pay-per-use models in which IT services can be created and scaled on-demand. However, service providers are still concerned about the constraints imposed by their physical infrastructures. In order to keep the required QoS and achieve the goal of upholding the SLA, virtualized resources must be efficiently consolidated to maximize system throughput while keeping energy consumption at a minimum. Using ANN, we propose a predictive SLA-aware approach for consolidating virtualized resources in a cloud environment. To maintain the QoS and to establish an optimal trade-off between performance and energy efficiency, the server's utilization threshold dynamically adapts to the physical machine's resource consumption. Furthermore, resource-intensive VMs are prevented from getting underprovisioned by assigning them to hosts that are both capable and reputable. To verify the performance of our proposed approach, we compare it with non-optimized conventional approaches as well as with other previously proposed techniques in a heterogeneous cloud environment setup.

  • Parking guidance and information systems have been introduced to response the inefficient and inconvenience use of parking facilities. While advanced countries have reached effective use of parking guidance information system, the Republic of Korea has yet suffered from the lack of full use of advanced technologies. This study proposes an algorithm designed for a systems utilizing the USN technologies. A field test was performed. The test results showed that information from the proposed system is much reliable when compared to the one from the existing.

Recently, many TDM plans are being improved along with plans to more effectively utilize established facilities and maximize the effect. To achieve the purpose of Intelligent Transport Systems(ITS). Recently, the core of ITS is Advanced Traveler information Systems (ATIS.) that are activity researched. A development of various muti-media system is very important of road guideline.   • The collapsed cases are more and more increasing at the large scaled structures because of increasing of the risk due to natural disasters. The measuring instrument such as inclinometer, total station on reinforced-soil retaining wall has been used that displacement, settlement for stability assessment, maintenance and management of it. But because these has gotten many instability measuring factors for stability analysis of RRW, new system needs to complement disadvantage of existing system. In this study, we considered a application of Visual Monitoring System (VMS) to measure a displacement in face of wall through Lab. test about block assembly of segmental retaining wall during load test.

Relationships between Diversion Rates and Traffic Conditions on Expressways (고속도로 소통상황과 우회율과의 상관분석)

  • Due to increasing interest in dispersion of traffic flows through providing traffic information, there has been much research of driver behavior and effectiveness of diversion. In this paper the authors intend to analyze how a diversion was determined and its effects through correlation analysis between diversion rates estimated by actual surveys and the traffic conditions. Through speed-flow analysis, the diversion mechanism was found. When travel speed decreased, detour volume increased. Then when the traffic volume was decreased through an increase of diversion and traffic conditions got better, the detour volume decreased again. In addition, the authors found negative correlation between the diversion rate and travel speed through correlation analysis. It shows that there were various relationships between diversion rates and traffic conditions according to congestion level and direction of traffic. Finally, it is suggested that the regression equation for calculating the diversion rate with the traffic flows, travel speed, and travel time as variables has a coefficient of determination of 38.5%. It means that traffic conditions on expressways take about 40% of driver's decision-making for diversion.

The Study on the fabrics of Gilt-Bronze Shoes Found at the Tomb of King Mu-Ryeong of Baekje (백제 무령왕릉 출토 금동리(金銅履) 수착 직물 연구)

  • This study is considered about the fabrics culture of Baekje Period by analyzing the fabrics pieces at a inner part of the It-bronze shoes found at the tomb of King Mu-ryeong in 1971 AD. The analysis methods of the fabrics pieces are a photographing of fabrics pieces surface by VMS, Digital camera(Nikon Coolpix 995) and the analysis of samples by SEM, XRD and FT-IR. It is assumed this fabrics pieces are the inner shoes, which consisted of compound woven silk at outward, some of tabby and a hemp at inward and the braids for decoration, of the gilt-bronze shoes. The features are as follows. 1. All of compound woven silk are the warp-faced compound tabby of plain fabrics and the density is various from high to low one. Compound woven silk which is attached the gilt-bronze shoes of the tomb of King Mu-ryeong weaves in high density by a thick thread. The fibers material of compound woven silk prove to be a silk by the analysis of wrap samples by SEM, XRD and FT-IR. 2. Tabby are excavated under the condition which attached on reverse side of compound woven silk. Those ran classify two types. First, the fine weaving by high density of wrap and weft. Second, the loose warp weaving with one warp and some of weft. 3. Hemp is almost ramie by SEM analysis and the density is different. Ramie which supposed to be attached Guem has the very low density. In addition to, Ramie pieces, excavated in condition and weaved finely, proved the conspicuous weaving skill in Baekje period. 4. Various kinds of braid are found and these ones classifies by fiber material and entwining way. Two types out of these are the one of silk thread, decorates the upper, middle parts of compound woven silk shoes and the other of hemp thread, decorates the lower parts.

  • The real-time traffic information is considered to be the system to alleviate traffic congestion. An effective traffic information will help drivers make efficient travel decision, and network performance will be improved. To make efficient strategy of providing information, the analyst should quantify reduced congestion by the media traffic informations. Many other route diversion models considered only media-informations as information sources and ignored the impact of on-site informations such as visible delays and average speeds, which affect drivers' route diversion decision in practice. In those models, the effect of on-site informations could be treated to be the effect of media informations, and the effects of media informations would be over-estimated. The proposed model including the impact of on-site information can estimate the effect of media-informations. The results are expected to be applied to the analysis of traffic management policy such as ITS.

  • Until 2014, 14 million tonnes of Pb (metal based) and 41 million tonnes of Zn (metal based) were produced in Peru. Representative two Pb-Zn metallogenic belts were known in Peru. They are lower Cretaceous-Paleocene VMS Cu-Zn-Au metallogenic belt and Miocene epithermal, skarn, replacement & polymetallic vein metallogenic belt. If four new mining projects were launched and additional three mining projects were prepared until 2017, it seems possible to produce 0.34 million tonnes of Pb and 1.5 million tonnes of Zn additionally. In Pb-Zn metallogenic belt in Peru, potential Zn amounts range from 9 to 6000 million tonnes with 0.1 to 14% Zn and potential Pb amounts range from 5 to 2800 million tonnes with 0.04 to 5.3% Pb.

  • Many large cities in Korea have implemented or planed to implement a bus information system(BIS) to improve service quality for bus Passengers, mainly by Providing bus arrival time at bus stations. In those systems, similar systematic errors to estimate the bus arrival time occur, which are caused by the cycle time to identify each bus location, the information processing time of the center system, and the cycle time to update the bus arrival information on each terminal. This paper investigated each cause sequentially and estimated three expectations related to the above three causes, respectively using the random incidence concept. Through a validation using real data from a BIS in a city in Korea, fairly amount of improvements on the bus arrival time estimation have been observed.
