Cloud Computing allows application providers seamlessly scaling their services and enables users scaling their usage according to their needs. In this paper, using queuing game model, we present service scheduling schemes which are used in software as a service (SaaS). The object is maximizing the Cloud Computing platform's (CCP's) payoff via controlling the service requests whether to join or balk, and controlling the value of CCP's admission fee. Firstly, we treat the CCP as one virtual machine (VM) and analyze the optimal queue length with a fixed admission fee distribution. If the position number of a new service request is bigger than the optimal queue length, it balks. Otherwise, it joins in. Under this scheme, the CCP's payoff can be maximized. Secondly, we extend this achievement to the multiple VMs situation. A big difference between single VM and multiple VMs is that the latter one needs to decide which VM the service requests turn to for service. We use a corresponding algorithm solve it. Simulation results demonstrate the good performance of our schemes.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the isolated activation ratio of the quadriceps femoris muscle on different support surfaces during squat exercise. Methods: Twenty participants (10 males and 10 females) voluntarily agreed to participate in the research after receiving an explanation about the purpose and process of the study. Each participant performed squat exercises on three different support surfaces (a flat surface, a form roller, and an unstable surface). Muscle activities of the rectus femoris (RF), vastus medialis (VM), and vastus lateralis (VL) were measured by electromyography. The isolated activation ratio of the quadriceps femoris muscle was calculated using the %isolation formula. Results: For the squat exercise, the %isolation value of the VM was significantly higher on the unstable surface than on the flat surface and form roller. In contrast, the %isolation values for the RF for the squat exercise were significantly higher on the flat surface and form roller than on the unstable surface. There was no significant differences in the %isolation values of the VL on the three different surfaces. Conclusion: The findings indicate that squat exercise on different surfaces results in differential activation of the quadriceps femoris muscle, which suggests that squat exercise on a multi-directional unstable surface could increase the isolated activation ratio of the VM.

Variable Message Sign(VMS) is one of the most popular travel information system. In this study, the evaluation categories, each category's datum value and evaluation procedure for enhancing the visibility of VMS are studied and the physical evaluation system is developed. The evaluation categories have been developed based on the analysis of previous guidelines used in Korea, Europe and the United States. The evaluation categories include luminance, luminance ratio, beam width, color, and uniformity. The physical evaluation system consists of goniometer, solar simulator, luminance meter, sensor and rack system. As a result of this study, the quantitative and effective evaluation of VMS visibility would become possible.

We calculate the facet reflectivity as a function of the waveguide width of buried channel waveguides using the angular spectrum method and the field profiles obtained by the effective index method, the variational method and the modified variational method, respectively and discuss the results. As the waveguide width increases, the facet reflectivity of buried channel waveguides approaches to that of slab waveguides. As the waveguide width decreases, the facet reflectivity of quasi-TE mode decreases from that of slab waveguides, while that of quasi-TE mode increases from that of slab waveguides. The variation of the facet reflectivity of quasi-TE mode as a function of waveguide width is much larger than that of quasi-TM mode. When the aspect ratio is one, the difference between the facet reflectivity of quasi-TE mode and that of quasi-TM mode using the variational method and the modified variational method is negligible, while the difference between the facet reflectivity of quasi-TE mode and that of quasi-TM mode using the effective index method is large. In the case of quasi-TE mode, the facet reflectivity using the angular spectrum method and the field profiles obtained by the modified variational method could be more accurate than that obtained by the effective method. In the case of quasi-TM mode, the facet reflectivities obtained by the various methods are almost the same.

We calculate the facet reflectivity of buried channel waveguides and ridge waveguides as a function of the waveguide width for various thicknesses using the angular spectrum method and the two dimensional field profiles obtained by the variational method (VM) and the effective index method (EIM). The variation of the reflectivity of buried channel waveguides as a function of the waveguide width is large, while that of ridge waveguides is very small. The accuracy of the field profiles necessary for the calculation of the facet reflectivity using the angular spectrum method greatly affects that of the facet reflectivity. The difference between the exact reflectivity and that using EIM increases as the waveguide width and thickness decreases due to the inaccuracy of the field profiles obtained by EIM. However, the difference between the exact reflectivity and that using VM is smaller than that using EIM regardless of waveguide width and thickness. The difference between the facet reflectivities u sing EIM and VM is small in the area where the EIM works very well.
The virtual memory system in 4.4 BSD operating systems exploits a clustering scheme to reduce disk I/Os in paging out (or flushing) modified pages that are intended to be replaced in order to make free rooms in memory. Upon the page out of a victim page, the scheme stores a cluster (or group) of modified pages contiguous with the victim in the virtual address space to swap disk at a single disk write. However, it fails to find large clusters of contiguous pages if applications change pages not adjacent with each other in the virtual address space. To address the problem, we propose a new clustering scheme called Multiple-Object Clustering (MOC), which together stores multiple clusters in the virtual address space at a single disk write instead of paging out the clusters to swap space at separate disk I/Os. This multiple-cluster transfer allows the virtual memory system to significantly decrease disk writes, thus improving the page-out performance. Our experiments in the FreeBSD 6.2 show that MOC improves the execution times of realistic benchmarks such as NS2, Scimark2 SOR, and nbench LU over the traditional clustering scheme ranging from 9 to 45%.

Two version of the TUMMAC(Tokyo University Modified Marker-And-Cell) method, i.e., $TUMMAC-IV_{vm1}$ and TUMMAC-VI are applied to two water-wave problems. The ship wave of a Series 60 model($C_B=0.6$) and of the fore-body of a HSVA tanker model are simulated by the $TUMMAC-IV_{vm1}$ method are the results are compared with the experimental results. From the comparison with the experimental data it is ascertained that the $TUMMAC-IV_{vm1}$ method is useful for the analysis of the realized by the TUMMAC-VI method is useful for the analysis of the characteristics of nonlinear ship waves. Three-dimensional wave breaking is realized by the TUMMAC-VI method in the simulation of a flow about a vertical rectangular cylinder. From the results of this simulation, it is shown that the TUMMAC-VI method is very available for the simulation of 3-dimensional wave breaking phenomena.
The purpose of this work was a simulation study to evaluate the virtual monochromatic (VM) image quality of blood vessels compared to the monochromatic image. Dual-energy images were obtained based on the linear attenuation coefficients of five materials at 50 keV and 80 keV at low- and high-energies, respectively. A weighting factor is required to synthesize the VM image, and the liver and bone were used as basis materials to obtain the weighting factor. VM images were synthesized at energies ranging from 30 keV to 100 keV. Image quality was evaluated by Contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and noise by setting calcium and contrast medium as signals and blood as background. According to the results, the energies with the maximum CNR were 50 keV and 60 keV for calcium and contrast medium, respectively. The energies showing the minimum noise were 70 keV, 70 keV, and 60 keV in calcium, iodine contrast medium, and blood, respectively. The VM image can contribute to the improvement of diagnostic performance in CT examination because it can implement an image at the optimal energy that minimize noise and maximize CNR.
To develop an Enoki mushroom packaging method, mushrooms were stored at $1^{\circ}C$ for 12 days after passive MAP packaging(PM), vacuum packaging(VM), and gas flushing packaging(AM), after investigation of film thickness influences on respiration rates and gas compositions(LDPE films 20, 40, and 60 m in thickness were tested). Enoki mushrooms had respiration rates of 26.4 mL $CO_2/kg/hour$ at $0^{\circ}C$, 80.0 mL $CO_2/kg/hour$ at $10^{\circ}C$, 130.9 mL $CO_2/kg/hour$ at $20^{\circ}C$, and 130.9 mL $CO_2/kg/hour$ at $30^{\circ}C$. A film thickness of 20 m was chosen for further tests to maintain the oxygen concentration above the minimum growth level; the thinnest film offered a higher gas transmittance rate than did the thicker films. No anaerobic respiration was evident over 12 days of storage using any packaging method, with the exception of VM. AM, using a high concentration of $CO_2$, restricted respiration rate. Mushrooms packaged using the VM method showed the greatest weight loss and extent of discoloration among the packaging methods tested, followed by AM mushrooms using 50% $CO_2/10%\;O_2/40%\;N_2$. Mushrooms packaged by the VM and PM methods developed a serious off-flavor after 2 days of storage, and a high stipe elongation rate after 5 days of storage, respectively. However, AM using 50% $CO_2/10%\;O_2/40%\;N_2$ of various gas ratios tested, allowed Enoki mushrooms to be maintained for up to 12 days without development of off-flavor, discoloration, or moldiness.
