  • A multi-band, compact, and complex vehicle roof antenna has become important in terms of car exterior design and multi-functions which include Radio, DAB/DMB, SXM, GNSS, Telematics, and V2X. In this paper, we propose a compact multi-band V2X pole-type roof antenna. Using impedance change characteristic, a single pole antenna which has multiband such as radio, DAB/DMB, telematics, and V2X band is proposed. With two patch antennas for GNSS and SXM, the dimension of a multiband roof antenna is 131x63x37mm only.

Band-Broadening Design of the Butler Matrix for V2X - 5.9 GHz Communication (V2X 차량 통신용 5.9 GHz 버틀러 매트릭스의 광대역화 설계)

  • In this paper, we suggest a design method of a wide-band Butler matrix working at 5.9 GHz for V2X communication antennas. Since V2X communication needs beam-forming and beam-steering antennas to make transportation systems, mobile comm platforms, saturated frequency-resources, and signal TX-and-RX smart, multi-functional, resolved, and efficient utmost, respectively, the proper Butler matrix and its radiating elements as a low-profile geometry are realized. The constitutive components of the basic Butler matrix of a narrow band are designed first. And then, it is extended to a wide-band version to make its frequency-shift less affected by the event of the antenna system being mounted on a car body. The beam-forming and beam-steering performance is presented as the common feature tagged along with the different bandwidths of the frequency responses as the comparison between the narrow- and wide-band cases.

  • This paper describes a design of the WAVE antenna system in V2X wireless communication systems for Intelligent Transport Systems. The WAVE standard protocols defined 5.825~5.9GHz frequency range for wireless communications with V2X. In a recent, A study of WAVE communication system it has been studied mainly the base station and the OBU technology in order to improve the communication performance of the communication distance. In this paper, the proposed vehicular WAVE antenna using the EBG structure is to improve performance. The proposed WAVE antenna with EBG shows improvement of return loss and radiation beam pattern. The performance of WAVE communication systems for intelligent transport systems is dependent on the performance of antenna. The proposed vehicular antenna for WAVE communication systems shows improvement of return loss for performance.

Broad Band Microstrip Antenna with Saw Tooth Perturbations for Polarization Diversity (톱니 모양의 Perturbation을 갖는 편파 Diversity 용 광대역 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • This study suggests new antenna design for polarization diversity. For dual polarization, two port feeding lines are printed on two separate layers and cross-shaped aperture is located on ground between the substrates. For reducing back radiation, a reflector is attached around $\lambda$/4 behind feeding substrates. For wide bandwidth we use a perturbed patch with saw tooth shaped. This perturbation effect causes reduction of antenna size and also reduction of array size. With the antenna proposed here, $1\times4$ array dual polarization antenna for polarization diversity of PCS base station is built. One single element has as large as 10.3%, 11.3% bandwidths at each port, V.S.W.R less than 1.3 and the isolation is less than -40 dB, also array antenna has 13.2% 12.7% band bandwidth, V.S.W.R less than 1.3 the isolation below -36dB and the XPD of 10 dB.

Design of Singly Fed Microstrip Antennas Having Circular Polarization (단일 급전 원형 편파 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a microstrip aperture-patch antenna and a microstrip ring antenna, which have single microstrip line feeding systems for the circular polarization, are designed, and experimental results are presented at X-band. The microstrip aperture-patch antenna is characterized by its wide operating frequency range, and the microstrip ring antenna is suitable for a basic radiator in the large array antenna due to its small size. Several design parameters for these antennas are considered and analyzed to improve antenna characteristics such as VSWR bandwidth and axial ratio. Initially, the sizes of the aperture and ring radiator are determined on a basis of the cavity model, then shapes of the patch within the aperture and the inner stub of the ring are optimized using Ensemble software. Measurement results show that the aperture-patch antenna has 25% of VSWR bandwidth and 1.2dB of axial ratio at the boresight, and the ring antenna has 6.7% of VSWR bandwidth and 1.6dB of axial ratio at the boresight.

Performance evaluation of WAVE communication systems under a high-speed driving condition in a highway (고속주행 환경에서의 WAVE 통신장치 성능분석)

  • In recent years, a variety of ITS services are available such as driving information, road conditions, V2X messages as well as navigation and traffic jams notification. The development of ITS services is accelerating by V2X communication technologies for high-speed vehicles. In this paper, WAVE communication devices based on the IEEE802.11p standard is introduced as a solution of V2X communication technologies. The H/W and S/W structures of the WAVE communication device and the characteristics of RF/antenna are described. The performance is evaluated in the test road by measuring throughput, PER and latency. The implemented WAVE communication device has 6~7 Mbps throughput with 10% PER at 1km coverage. The packet latency is less than 3ms for the whole test road. It is shown that the implemented WAVE technology is satisfactory to provide ITS services and Internet video-streaming services.

  • 4-bit 강유전체 위상변위기를 이용하여 10 GHz, 상온에서 작동하는 위상배열 안테나를 설계 및 제작하였다. 이 안테나는 빔 스캔을 위하여 전압에 대한 비선형특성을 보이는 강유전체 Bal-xSrxTiO3 (BST)를 기본으로 하는 위상변위기를 이용하였다. 우리는 펄스레이져 증착법으로 MgO (001) 기판위에 걸맞게 증착된 BST 박막을 일반적인 사진공정과 식각법을 이용하여 동일평판형 전극을 가진 위상변위기를 만들었다. 일반적인 동일평판형 강유전체 위상변위기의 경우 연결 전송선로의 임피던스와의 차이로 인해 반사손실과 이로 인한 부가적인 삽입손실이 발생한다. 이런 손실들을 줄이기 위해 입력과 출력 포트에 임피던스 매칭을 하였다. 이렇게 테이퍼링되어 만들어진 동일평판형 위상변위기는 이전의 구조에 비해 반사 손실과 삽입 손실 값에서 각각 약 10, 2 dB 정도씩의 개선을 보였다. 이 구조로 전송선로의 길이를 길게하여 만든 1-bit 강유전체 위상변위기는 10 GHz, 150 V의 전압변화에서 180도의 차등위상변위를 보였으며 최대 삽입손실과 최대 반사손실은 각각 약 10 dB, 20 dB 이다. 안테나 모듈은 4개의 마이크로스트림 패치 안테나와 4개의 강유전체 위상변위기로 이루어졌는데 10 GHz, 150 V의 전압변화에서 약 15도의 빔 스캔을 확인하였다.

  • 2007년8월 v2.0을 출간하면서 표준화가 완료된 Ultra Mobile Broadband(UMB) 기술은 진보된 안테나 기술과 함께, CDMA, TDM, Layer-superposed OFDM(LS-OFDM), OFDM, OFDMA의 장점들을 하나의 Air Interface로 통합하였으며, 효율적인 자원 관리 기법을 통해 더 많은 VoIP 사용자들을 수용할 수 있게 해준다. 4x4 안테나를 사용시 20MHz의 주파수 대역에 순방향 288 Mbps, 역방향 75 Mbps의 최대 전송률을 제공하며, 양방향에 대한 평균 Network 지연시간은 약 16.8 ms을 지원하고, 10 MHz 주파수 대역에 1000명 이상의 VoIP 사용자를 지원할 수 있다. 본 고에서는 UMB의 표준화 과정 및 현황 그리고 물리 계층과 MAC 계층의 요소 기술들에 대해 고찰한다.

  • This paper proposes a wide-band dual-polarization stacked patch array antenna for satellite SAR system applications. The array antenna was designed for loss minimization and wide-band characteristics to enhance the performance of the SAR system and optimize it for active return loss in applications to active phased arrays. The fabricated array antenna showed a performance of 19.26%/19.79% fractional bandwidth within the -10 dB reference level of the active return loss and showed loss characteristics of 0.797 dB/0.799 dB averaged within the operational frequency for both H/V-polarization cases. The pattern performance was verified by comparing the measured patterns with the calculated patterns obtained by the array factor.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method to shift the resonant frequency by applying the electric field to microstrip patch antenna using piezoelectric substrates. We fabricated microstrip patch antenna using Y-cut LiNbO3, Quartz and FR-4 substrates. We designed and simulated the microstrip antennas by Ensemble V 7.0 of the simulation too1. We observed the resonant frequency by DC applied electric field in a microstrip patch antenna. When the electric field was 300 V/mm, the resonant frequency agile of Y-cut LiNbO3 microstrip patch antennas were 29 MHz. When the electric field was 400 V/mm, the frequency agile of X-cut, Y-cut and Z-cut quartz microstrip patch antennas were 55.2 MHz, 34.2 MHz and 28.0 MHz, respectively. However, when the electric field was 400 V/mm, the resonant frequency of FR-4 microstrip patch antenna does not changed. It was shown that the resonant frequency agile of Y-cut and Z-cut quartz microstrip patch antennas are due to piezoelectric phenomenon not to be permittivity.
