  • Volatile flavor components in five varieties, Bekdo, Chundo, Yumung, Daegubo and Hwangdo, of peach (Prunus persica L.) were extracted by SDE (Simultaneous steam distillation and extraction) method using the mixture of n-pentane and diethylether(1:1, v/v) as an extract solvent. Analysis of the concentrate by capillary gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry led to the identification of 83, 85, 70, 74 and 66 components in Bekdo, Chundo, Yumung, Daegubo and Hwangdo, respectively. Aroma patterns (29 alcohols, 27 ketones, 18 aldehydes, 9 esters, 5 ethers, 3 acids, 6 terpene and derivatives, and 26 miscellaneous) were identified and quantified in five cultivars. Ethyl acetate, hexanal, o-xylene, (E)-2-hexenal, hexanol, (E)-2-hexen-1-ol, benzaldehyde, r-decalactone and r-dodecalactone were the main components in each samples, though there were several differences in composition of volatile components. Beside C$\_$6/ compounds, a series of saturated and unsaturated r- and $\delta$-lactones ranging from chain length C$\_$6/ to C$\_$l2/, with concentration maxima for r-decalactone and r-dodecalactone, were a major class of constituents. Lactones and peroxidation products of unsaturated fatty acid (i.e. C$\_$6/ aldehydes and alcohols) were major constituents of the extract.

  • Light-emitting chromophores have been separated from silica spheres modified the surface with 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate (TMSPM). The photoluminescence characteristics of the chromophores were investigated with various excitation wavelengths. The TMSPM was attached to the surface of silica spheres at $75^{\circ}C$. Large number of round shaped particles of the TMSPM was on the surface of silica spheres after 3 h reaction. The TMPSM was completely covered on the surface of the spheres after 6 h reaction. The surface modified silica spheres were soaked into acetone and stored for 20 days at ambient condition. The solution color slowly changed from light yellow to deep yellow with the increase of the storing time. The FTIR absorption peaks at 3348, 2869, 2927, 1715, 1453/1377, 1296, and $1120cm^{-1}$ represent C-OH, $R-CH_3$, $R_2-CH_2$, -C=O, C-H, C=C-H, and Si-O-Si absorption, respectively. The FTIR absorption peak at $1715cm^{-1}$ representing the ester -C=O stretching vibration for silica spheres stored for 20 days was increased compared with the spheres without aging. The UV-visible absorption peaks were at 4.51 eV (275 nm) and 3.91 eV (317 nm). There were two luminescence peaks at 2.51 eV (495 nm) and 2.25 eV (550 nm). The emission at 2.51 eV was dominant peak when the excitation energy was higher than 2.58 eV, and emission at 2.25 eV became dominant peak when the excitation energy was lower than 2.58 eV.

  • The crystal structure of Ethylenediammonium chromate, $C_2H_{10}N_2{\cdot}CrO_4$, has been determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystal data: a=6.667(2), b=8.845(2), c:11.827(2) ${\AA}$, Orthorhombic, $P2_12_12_1$(Space Group No=19), Z=4, V=697.4(3) ${\AA}{^3},\;Dc=1.696gcm^{-3},\;{\mu}=1.594mm^{-1}$. The structure was solved by Patterson method and refined by full matrix least-square methods using unit weights. The final R and S values were $R_1=0.0254,\;R_w=0.070,\;R_{all}=0.0255$ and S=1.133 for the observed 1195 reflections. Bond length and angles of two ions are similar to the previously reported data. The ethylenediammonium ion has trans-configuration and are linked through many hydrogen bonds with neighboring anions.

  • In this paper, we describe the current status and issues of the oxide thin-film transistors (OTFTs), which attract much attention as an emerging new backplane technology replacing conventional silicon-based TFTs technologies. First, the unique benefits of OTFTs will be presented as a backplane for large-sized AMOLED including note-book PC, second TV and HD-TV. And then, the state-of-the-art transistor performance and uniformity characteristics of OTFTs will be highlighted. The obtained a-IGZO TFTs exhibited the field-effect mobility of $18\;cm^2/Vs$, threshold voltage of 1.8 V, on/off ratio of $10^9$, and subthreshold gate swing of 0.28 V/decade. In addition, the world largest-sized 12.1-inch WXGA active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display is demonstrated using indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO) TFTs.

  • The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were compared between precious alloy S, and non-precious alloys V.U. and R. And the changes in bond strengths of non-precious alloys with ceramco porcelain, according to surface preparations by sand blasting, longitudinal grinding, transverse grinding, and high polishing, were studied. The test specimens were prepared by firing porcelain doughnuts on the surface prepared alloy rods, and investing in dental stone. The specimens were subjected to shear loading forces. The conclusions drawn from the investigation are as follows: 1. The bond strengths with ceramco porcelain were higher in the non-precious alloys U and R, than in the precious alloy S. 2. The bond strengths were in descending order for R alloy, U alloy, V alloy, and S alloy. 3. The bond strengths were highest when the R alloy and U alloy were surface prepared by sand blasting. 4. All bond strength values were lowest when the alloy surfaces were prepared by high polishing.

  • We consider the fourth-order differential equation with one-dimensional $p$-Laplacian (${\phi}_p(x^{\prime\prime}(t)))^{\prime\prime}=f(t,x(t),x^{\prime}(t),x^{\prime\prime}(t)$) a.e. $t{\in}[0,1]$, subject to the boundary conditions $x^{\prime\prime}}(0)=0$, $({\phi}_p(x^{\prime\prime}(t)))^{\prime}{\mid}_{t=0}=0$, $x(0)={\sum}_{i=1}^n{\mu}_ix({\xi}_i)$, $x(t)=x(1-t)$, $t{\in}[0,1]$, where ${\phi}_p(s)={\mid}s{\mid}^{p-2}s$, $p$ > 1, 0 < ${\xi}_1$ < ${\xi}_2$ < ${\cdots}$ < ${\xi}_n$ < $\frac{1}{2}$, ${\mu}_i{\in}\mathbb{R}$, $i=1$, 2, ${\cdots}$, $n$, ${\sum}_{i=1}^n{\mu}_i=1$ and $f:[0,1]{\times}\mathbb{R}^3{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}$ is a $L^1$-Carath$\acute{e}$odory function with $f(t,u,v,w)=f(1-t,u,-v,w)$ for $(t,u,v,w){\in}[0,1]{\times}\mathbb{R}^3$. We obtain the existence of at least one nonconstant symmetric solution by applying an extension of Mawhin's continuation theorem due to Ge. Furthermore, an example is given to illustrate the results.

  • We studied the change of photovoltaic properties of a flexible CuInxGa(1-x)Se2 (CIGS) solar cell fabricated on polyimide by mechanical bending with curvature radii of 75 mm (75R) and 20 mm (20R). The flexible CIGS cells were flattened on a PET film, then placed and forced against the surface of a curved block fabricated with pre-designed curvatures. Both up (compressive) and down (tensile) bending were applied to a specimen of CIGS on PET with curvatures of 75R and 20R for 10,000 times and 2,000 times, respectively. From J-V measurements, we found that the conversion efficiency (Eff.) was reduced by 3% and 4% for up-and down-bending, respectively, at curvature 75R; it was greatly reduced by 15% for curvature 20R in the up-bending. However, the open circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current density (Jsc) seemed to change little, within 3%, for the applied mechanical stresses. The degradation in Eff. resulted from the deterioration of the series (Rs) and shunt (Rsh) resistances of the solar cell.
