삼각벨트 클러치의 성능 향상에 관한 연구 (Performance Improvement of Triangular-type V-belt Clutch)

  • This study was conducted to provide a direction for improving the performance of triangular-type belt clutch. The power transmission characteristics and the wear of belt were investigated for two types of pulley set theoretically and experimentally. The results of research were summarized as follows: 1) Based on the theoretical analysis for the life time of belt, the wear of belt could be reduced by increasing the sizes of driving V-pulley and tension pulley, and by decreasing the tension on V-belt. 2) The pulley set # 2 could transmit more power than the pulley set # 1 could at the same slop rate. While the slip rate was 2.36% on the pulley set # 2 at the maximum power transmission, the slip rate on the pulley set # 1 was increased up to 12.2% at the same condition. 3) From the 16 hours' fatigue test, the wear of belt used n the pulley set # 1 was observed severer than that in the pulley set#2. Also, it was found that the tensile strength of belt used in the pulley set # 2 was greater than that of belt used in the pulley set # 1.

  • A V belt pulley is widely used in automotive industry. More than tow pulleys in one automobile are used, such items as crankshaft, water pump, air-con compressor and power steering pump. Although the shape and usage of pulleys are very simple, the design evaluation of a pulley design is difficult because the load conditions and the installation environment are complicated. So, we formulated the design evaluation for the V belt pulley by using CAE system, which enables to develop a design automation system. By using this system, an engineer can evaluate a pulley design easily without any painstaking effort, such as consideration of the complicated loads and CAE activities. Also the system helps to accumulate the design experience of a company, which guides the optimum design based on experience.

금속 V-벨트 CVT의 벨트거동 해석 (Analysis of belt behavior for a metal V-belt CVT)

  • The metal V-belt behavior of a continuously variable transmission was investigated analytically and experimentally. Numerical results showed that nondimensional belt radial displacement increased in the radial inward direction for the driven pulley, while that of the driver pulley increased for the first 90 degrees of the active are and decreased with the increasing torque load. Experimental results for the belt radial displacement were in good agreement with the theoretical results. However, the absolute magnitude of the belt radial displacement was so small that the change in the belt displacement could not be measured in the experimental range except for the inlet region of the driven pulley, where the radial inward displacement was observed due to the effect of bending moment. The speed ratio-axial force relationship derived from the belt behavior analysis also showed god agreement with the experiment.

차량용 V-벨트 CVT의 벨트거동해석 (Analysis of belt behavior for an automotive V-belt CVT)

  • The behavior of a V-belt CVT was investigated both analytically and experimentally. It was found that as the torque load increased, the belt radial displacement increased in inward radial direction for the driven pulley while the radial displacement decreased slightly and increased for the driver pulley. The relative belt displacement for the driver was negligible compared with that of the driven. The experimental results were in good accordance with the theoretical results except for the inlet and exit region of the pulley. The speed ratio-torque load-axial force relationship derived from the belt behavior analysis also showed good agreement with the experiment. It is suggested that the results of this paper can be used as basic design informations of a V-belt CVT.

  • Some trials to simulate the spinning process by which V-belt pulley is usually being manufactured are done in this study. 2D finite element analysis (FEA) for the whole process to produce a mono-typed pulley including preforming, 1st spinning, axial compression and 2nd spinning processes is carried out using the commercial code $DEFORM2D^{TM}$. The sectional shape after each process is compared with that of real product. The deformed shape obtained from the FEA, on the whole, coincides with the experimental result well, but the thickness around the bottom of the V-groove is somewhat different each other.

  • Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) consists of a driving pulley and a driven pulley joined by rubber V-belt. Each pulley consists of a fixed flange and a movable flange. The main advantages of the U with V-belt, which has been Popular in Asia, are a simple mechanism less maintenance and low cost. One of the important factors which have an influence on the performance of the CVT is change of axial distance. Base on an experiment the effects of transfer torque and speed ratio of both driving pulley and driven pulley during the alteration of axial distance were studied.

플라스틱 V-벨트 풀리 설계 및 시작품 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Product Design and Prototype Manufacturing of a Plastic V-Belt Pulley)

  • In this study, product design and prototype manufacturing of a plastic water-pump pulley has been tried. The designed model is supposed to be made of 33 % glass reinforced resin of which the tensile strength is 180 MPa, and has 24 ribs on each side to increase its structural strength. Structural analysis under a static load of 300 kgf acting on both edges of the belt has been carried out using a commercial finite element code, MARC. The analysis result showed the maximum effective stress near a rib of designed model would be at most 35 MPa (less than 20% of the tensile strength), therefore, the plastic product would be sufficiently safe under that loading condition. On the basis of the structural analysis, a prototype of the designed model has been manufactured by using the fused deposition modelling (FDM) method which is one of the rapid prototyping (RP) methods, using ABS resin and support materials. The CAD data exported to the RP system in STL format was prepared by a commercial solid modeling software, SolidWorks. It has been proved that the plastic pulley can successfully replace the existing flow-formed steel product.

  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanisms considered here is a V-belt drive with two variable-diameter pulleys and effective diameters. One pulley was set by a mechanical link while the other was spring-loaded to provide automatic correspondence. The center distance between the two variable-diameter pulleys was fixed. Experimental studies were executed to analyze efficiencies as change of its speed ratio.

볼 형태 가동플랜지를 갖는 건식 무단변속기에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Dry CVT with Movable Flange of Ball Type)

  • Dry CVT(Continuously variable transmission) consists of a driving pulley and a driven pulley joined by rubber V-belt. Each pulley consists of a fixed flange and a movable flange. The movable flange of the driving pulley has the centrifugal roller and a ramp plate in the flange. The movable flange moves toward a fixed flange under the actuation of a centrifugal roller, as the driving pulley speed increases. The main advantages of the Dry CVT with V-belt, which has been popular in Asia, are a simple mechanism, less maintenance and low cost. The important claim which have an influence on the performance of the Dry CVT is the wear of the centrifugal roller. In this study ball type is proposed instead of roller type of movable flange to resolve claim. Also experiments are carried out for new model to evaluate performances.
