To elucidate the effects of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang, after oral administration of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang water extract in mice and rats, acute toxicity, analgesic, sedative, esoogenic actions, action on isolated uterine muscle were measured. The rlesults obtained were as follows: 1. The yield of water extract of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang was 24.5%, 32.2%, minimum lethal dose was 4,000mg/kg, which rarely had the acute toxicity in mice and rats. 2. The analgesic effects of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang by acetic acid induced writhing syndrome in mice were not remarkaely observed. 3. The relaxant action of Chokyungsan on on oxytocin induced contracted uterine muscle in estrogenized rats were not remarkably observed, but Chunkeunchokyungtang were remarked. 4. The sedative effects of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang by hexobabital sodium induced sleeping time in mice. 5. administration of Chokyungsan and Chunkeunchokyungtang caused remarkable increase in weight of rat's uterus.
Purpose : This study is to identify the aftermath of hysterectomy in the treatment of a uterine disease. Methods : We collected treatises on the aftermath of hysterectomy and analyzed those. Those treatise had relation to change in ano-rectal function, ovarian function, change of serum sex hormone levels, bone mineral density, quality of life and so on. Results : After the treatises on the aftermath of hysterectomy, common symptoms after hysterectomy were general weakness, loss of taste, sweating, abdominal pain, dysuria, vaginal bleeding, weight loss, emptyness on lower abdomen and pains on operation. Conclusion : The result of this study suggest the aftermath of hysterectomy in the treatment of a uterine disease. In conclusion, our result support the importance of earlier prediction and a proper management plan to improve the quality of life in women.
An 8-months-old young Maltese bitch was presented for investigation of anorexia and occasional vomiting. The body weight was 2 kg. Abdominal sonography demonstrated abnormal enlargement of uterus. The dog had been clinically and pathologically examined. Also, ovariohystectomy was performed. Staphylococcus aureus was identified in the pus-like materials of the uterine lumen. This case was confirmed as pyometra induced by Staphylococcus aureus. Gross examination of the dissected uterus revealed enlarged uterine horn, which had yellowish or brownish pus-like materials in the lumen. Also, there was several segments formation between the enlarged areas of left and right uterine horns. Histopathologically, endometritis and necrosis were present in uterine wall. The bitch made a complete recovery following an ovariohystectomy. This case was spontaneous pyometra induced by Staphylococcus species. On our knowledge, this is a very rare report of pyometra occurrence in young dog and Staphylococcus species-induced pyometra. This study may provide a valuable data on the study of canine pyometra.
Recently we observed and treated a 49-year-old postmenopausal female with enlarged uterine myoma who taking through the hormone replacement therapy(H.R.T). We regard the cause of this case as insufficiency of kidney-yin(腎陰虛), stagnation or the phlegm and pathologic blood(痰瘀阻滯) and H.R.T. ln general cases, myomas grow in size if estrogen and progesterone is present and do not increase in size if estrogen and progesterone levels are low. So if a woman can get to menopause without having symptoms from the myomas, then it is likely that she will never have problems from the growths that require treatment. But Taking postmenopausal estrogen and progestin replacement therapy can cause myomas to grow. So we recommended her to stop the H.R.T. gave herbal-medicine and acupuncture therapy. Thus we could get a good result as follows. The uterine myomas were significantly declined but no change on it's characters. Hot flush and general conditions were also significantly improved And body weight was lessened for about 4.7kg. But vaginal dryness was appeared, So we planed another therapy for that symptom.
Horses that have been retired from racing or imported from abroad are retired as broodmares. Whether at private farms or government institutes they are bred to stallions with the aim of improving fertility and enhancing the breed. Accidental deaths as a result of surgical or obstetrical complications lead to decreased productivity and economic losses to the horse breeding industry. Intussusception of the uterine horn is a frequent complication of the equine and bovine species, but rarely seen in other species. The most common causes are thought to be tearing of the placenta which is suspended from the uterus and ovaries and the weight of the placenta. Expulsion of the embryonic membranes is also thought to be a contributing factor. If symptoms are minor and treatment affected quickly, the problem will likely resolve itself. In more severe cases the uterus will prolapse completely. This case study was observed in a Thoroughbred broodmare. After treatment of dystocia, the broodmare could not stand up. She became dehydrated, collapsed, suffered colic and was euthanised. In this case was observed serious swelling vulva and perineal region by morphology, and there was seldom ascites and unusual view in thoracic and abdominal cavity after opening abdomen. However, intussusception of uterine horn involuted left uterine horn into the uterine body was observed.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Sagunjatang-Gami(SGJT) on uterine and ovarian function in the ovariectomized rat postmenopause model. Methods: SGJT was administered in ovariectomized Wister albino female rats for three month. After that, uterine weight, uterine index, serum estradiol-$17{\beta}$ levels and phosphorylation of ERK or AKT, and histological analysis of uterus were measured to assess the impact on uterine and ovarian function in ovariectomized rats. In addition, phosphorylation of $ER{\alpha}$, ERK, AKT by SGJT in MDA-MB-231 cells were measured. To identify safety of SGJT, the cell cytoxicity in MDA-MB-231 cells and serum GOT, GPT levels were measured in ovariectomized rats. Results: The results were as follows. 1. SGJT decreased the viability of MDA-MB-231 cells in a dose-dependent manner. 2. The level of serum GOT, GPT in SGJT-treated group showed significant decrease in comparison with control group. 3. Phosphorylation of $ER{\alpha}$, ERK, AKT by SGJT in MDA-MB-231 cells were increased. 4. Uterus index in SGJT-treated group showed significant increase in comparison with control group. The level of serum estradiol-$17{\beta}$ in SGJT-treated group showed significant increase in comparison with control group. Phosphorylation of ERK or AKT by SGJT in the uterus of ovariectomized rats was increased significantly. 5. Uterus index and the level of serum estradiol-$17{\beta}$ in SGJT-treated group increased at higher rates in comparison with estrogen-treated group. Conclusions: Taken together, we suggest that SGJT has been shown to be effective in preventing postmenopausal uterine and ovarian degeneration and curing postmenopausal low estrogen related symptoms.

Purpose : This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Gamigwichulpajing-Tang(GGT) on the development of experimentally-induced endometriosis in rats. Materials and Methods : Endometriosis was induced in rats by auotransplanting uterine tissue to the peritoneum and devided them into three groups: (1) sham-operated group(n=8), (2) surgically induced endometriosis and untreated control group(n=8), (3)surgically induced endometriosis and GGT treated group. GGT(700mg/head) was orally administrated for 15days after operation. Then we measured the body weight, the volumes of endometriotic implants, the weight of uterus and ovary, and investigated the content of cytokines(MCP-1, $TNF-{\alpha}$, $IL-l{\beta}$) in serum and ascites. Histopathology, immunohistochemistry for COX-2, and histochemistry for mast cell in transplanted uterine tissue were performed. Results :- The $volume(mm^3)$ of endometriotic implants in GGT-treated group$(53.50\;{\pm}18.63)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.01) compared with control group$(404.50{\pm}317.68)$. - The content(pg/ml) of MCP-1 in ascites in GGT-treated group$(4265{\pm}108)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.001) compared with control group$(8632{\pm}1245)$. - The content(pg/ml) of $TNF-{\alpha}$ in serum in GGT-treated group$(64.5{\pm}21.6)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.05) compared with control group$(147.1{\pm}78.2)$. - The content(pg/ml)- of $TNF-{\alpha}$ in ascites in GGT-treated group$(738.3{\pm}502.4)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.05) compared with control group$(1245.2{\pm}362.2)$. - The percentage(%) of positive epithelial layers for COX-2 in GGT-treated group$(22.9{\pm}9.3)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.001) compared with control group$(50.2{\pm}8.2)$. - The number of mast cells in adjacent tissue of transplanted uterine tissue in GGT-treated group$(61.4{\pm}13.9)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.001) compared with control group$(109.3{\pm}30.2)$. - The number of mast cells in stroma of transplanted uterine tissue in GGT-treated group$(9.4{\pm}2.7)$ was significantly decreased(p<<0.001) compared with control group$(26.0{\pm}7.7)$. - Histopathologically, proliferation of endomeuiotic epithelia and stroma, and infiltration of inflammatory cells in transplanted uterine tissue of GGT-treated group were weakly observed than those of control group. Conclusion :On the basis of these results, we concluded that Gamigwichulpajing-Tang have inhibiting effects on the development of transplanted uterine tissue. And these effects may be related with decreased Production of MCP-1 and $TNF-{\alpha}$, decreased expression of COX-2, and decreased infiltration of mast cells by administration of Gamigwichulpajing-Tang.
