The Effects of Content and Distribution of Recommended Items on User Satisfaction: Focus on YouTube

  • The performance of recommender systems (RS) has been measured mainly in terms of accuracy. However, there are other aspects of performance that are difficult to understand in terms of accuracy, such as coverage, serendipity, and satisfaction with recommended results. Moreover, particularly with RSs that suggest multiple items at a time, such as YouTube, user satisfaction with recommended results may vary not only depending on their accuracy, but also on their configuration, content, and design displayed to the user. This is true when classifying an RS as a single RS with one recommended result and as a multiple RS with diverse results. No empirical analysis has been conducted on the influence of the content and distribution of recommendation items on user satisfaction. In this study, we propose a research model representing the content and distribution of recommended items and how they affect user satisfaction with the RS. We focus on RSs that recommend multiple items. We performed an empirical analysis involving 149 YouTube users. The results suggest that user satisfaction with recommended results is significantly affected according to the HHI (Herfindahl-Hirschman Index). In addition, satisfaction significantly increased when the recommended item on the top of the list was the same category in terms of content that users were currently watching. Particularly when the purpose of using RS is hedonic, not utilitarian, the results showed greater satisfaction when the number of views of the recommended items was evenly distributed. However, other characteristics of selected content, such as view count and playback time, had relatively less impact on satisfaction with recommended items. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to show that the category concentration of items impacts user satisfaction on websites recommending diverse items in different categories using a content-based filtering system, such as YouTube. In addition, our use of the HHI index, which has been extensively used in economics research, to show the distributional characteristics of recommended items, is also unique. The HHI for categories of recommended items was useful in explaining user satisfaction.

  • This paper aims to study the relationship of U-Traffic Service Quality and User Satisfaction. Independence variables is u-traffic service quality, and mediation parameters are publicity, usefulness and economic. Dependent variable is user satisfaction. Using SPSS 18.0, a series of factor analysis, reliability analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis have been performed. The conclusion is as follows. First, U-traffic service quality have a positive effect on user satisfaction directly. Second, U-traffic service quality have a positive effect on user satisfaction through mediation parameters of publicity, usefulness and economic. Third, service quality factor of the U-traffic service quality have more effect on user satisfaction than system quality factor. Last, usefulness among mediation parameters have the most positive effect on user satisfaction.

Determinants of User Satisfaction with Mobile VR Headsets: The Human Factors Approach by the User Reviews Analysis and Product Lab Testing

  • Since the VR market is expected to have a high growth, this study aimed to investigate the human factor-related determinants of user satisfaction with mobile VR headsets. A pre-study of customer reviews was conducted with the help of semantic network analysis to identify the core keywords for understanding negative and positive predictors of mobile VR headset experiences. Through laboratory testing with three different commercial models, the main study measured and identified the predictors of user satisfaction. From the results, five factors were extracted as valid predictor variables and used for regression analysis. These factors were immersion, VR sickness, usability, wear-ability and menu navigation interface. All the five predictors were proved to be significant determinants of the perceived user satisfaction with mobile VR headsets. Usability was the strongest predictor, followed by VR sickness and wear-ability. Practical and theoretical implications of the results were discussed.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose an analytical method for evaluating user satisfaction of Internet websites using the structural equation model(SEM). This paper is intended to identify critical evaluation factors of user satisfaction for websites to determine criteria for evaluating the websites, and use the criteria to develop a SEM model for quantitatively evaluation of each factors' effects of user satisfaction. The SEM model used 2 variables of usability and good-looks for the evaluation factors of websites user satisfaction and each factors have 4 sub evaluation criteria, 3 portal sites were evaluated to construct the SEM model, and 155 subjects participated the website evaluation using the walk-through and face-to-face survey method. Analysis results showed that the SEM model was statistically significant for all the 3 websites evaluated. Both the usability and good-looks two factors also showed significant effects to user satisfaction of websites and have positive correlation. The user satisfaction was more effected by the usability factor than good-looks, and the simplification and harmonization were the most critical sub-factors of the usability and good-looks.

Effect of the ERP Quality on the Performance and Causal-Effect Analysis between Outcome Variables in the Contract Foodservice Management Company (위탁급식 전문업체 전사적자원관리(ERP) 품질이 업무 성과에 미치는 영향과 업무 성과 변수 간 인과관계 분석)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to analyze the effect of the ERP quality (system quality, information quality, service quality) on the performance (end user satisfaction, user's performance, system utilization) of business, 2) to conduct the causal-effect analysis between outcome variables (user's satisfaction, user's performance, system utilization) of ERP in the contract foodservice management company. The questionnaires were distributed to 260 end users (dietitians, foodservice management managers) in charge of managing the institutional foodservice such as the office (government agencies, factories), schools (universities, middle and high school) and hospitals which were managed by contract foodservice management company 'C' in Seoul and Kyunggi. The surveys were performed from July 26, 2004 to July 30. 2004. Two hundred and fifty (250) questionnaires were responded (response rate: 96.2%). The statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS Win (11.5). And the descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability test, pearson correlation, simple and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results showed that among the 3 factors (system quality, information quality, service quality), the system quality and information quality were proved to have an effect on the user's satisfaction and user's performance significantly (p < .05). The influence of ERP quality (system quality, information quality, service quality) on system utilization were testified to be statistically significant (p < .05). The user's performance were affected significantly by system utilization (p < 0.001) and end user's satisfaction (p < 0.001). As a conclusion, to improve user satisfaction, which is the ultimate performance variable of an ERP system, high quality of an ERP system is the pre-requisite. And the user satisfaction and performance of business would be higher with the better quality ERP system. When constructing ERP system for the contract foodservice management company, we should improve system utilization and user satisfaction altogether so that user's performance could be ultimately enhanced and we should make efforts to enhance the quality level of ERP.   • Purpose. The purpose of this study is to investigate the success model related to the hospital information system accomplishment. It is important to examine the success model of the hospital information system and to analyze the factors affecting the job satisfaction accomplishment. Methods. The method of this study is to 150 copies of the entire survey data were distributed and 135 copies were collected, showing a collection rate of 90%. In order to ensure the reliability of the questionnaire items, Cronbach's Alpha was used to test reliability, and exploratory factor analysis was conducted to determine the convergence of various items. In order to grasp the convergence of various items, exploratory factor analysis was performed. The results of exploratory factor analysis were used to analyze the correlations between variables that were proven to have a single dimensionality before calculating factor loadings and regression analysis by Orthogonal Rotation by Varimax method Results. The results of this study, first, the system quality of the hospital information system has a statistically significant effect on user satisfaction. Second, the information quality of hospital information system is statistically significant for user satisfaction, indicating that information quality improves user satisfaction. Third, service quality of hospital information system was statistically significant in user satisfaction. Finally, the higher the satisfaction of the users who use the hospital information system, the higher the accomplishment of the organization Conclusions. This study is based on the successful model of D & M information system. In addition, the hospital information system, the user satisfaction, and the organizational accomplishment in connection with it can be found significant.

An Empirical Study on the Differences of Relationship between Content Quality Factors and User Satisfaction on Mobile Contents Based on User Characteristics (사용자 특성에 따른 모바일 콘텐츠 만족도에 영향을 미치는 콘텐츠 품질요인의 차이 분석)

  • This study figured out how could mobile contents quality factors, such as usefulness, accuracy, timeliness, entertaining, economic, security etc., affect satisfaction by user individuality using empirical analysis with an aim of finding difference in content quality factors which have an influence on mobile contents satisfaction by user characteristics in integrated view systemically. The result of analysis shows that usefulness has an influence on satisfaction in principle regardless of user characteristics. This study discovered that both of usefulness and entertaining are significant to satisfaction in the groups with high-user individuality. On the other hand, in the groups with low-user individuality both of usefulness and accuracy affect satisfaction. Findings show that contents preference can be different based on user characteristics. Implications are discussed and limitations are proposed based on empirical analysis.

The Atmospheric Factors Affecting User's Satisfaction in Natural Parks (자연공원의 분위기가 이용자의 만족도에 미치는 영향 - 국립공원과 도립공원을 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine atmospherical factors affecting user's satisfaction in natural park to answer the research question: what are the effects of atmosphere on user's satisfaction in natural parks(NP). After reviewing the literature, mechanism of NP, and use elements in NP, We constructed the conceptual framework and have formulated the hypothesis of this research. We had obtained data through a questionnaire, which surveyed 508 visitors at 6 of the 73 NP in Korea in 2001, based on stratified sampling method. We have analyzed the data using descriptive statistical methods, the mean difference test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and the multiple linear regression method. We found that 1) the five atmospheric variables, j.e., number of users(NOU), crowding, damage to park resources(DPR), and maintenance of park resources and facilities(MPRF), encounter level(EL) affecting user's satisfaction, have tuned out to be statistically significant at a five percent level. The direction of the relationship between user's satisfaction and MPRF, NOU, EL is the same as that of the dependent variable and the opposite of crowding, and BPR, 2) in bivariate analysis, the positive relationships between user's satisfaction and park resources, MPRF are fairly high and statistically significant. The higher the value of DPR, and crowing, the lower the degree of user's satisfaction, 3) in multivariate analysis, such variables as NOU, crowding, DPR, EL, and MPRF affecting user's satisfaction have been statistically significant at five percent level, and 4) the relative contribution of MPRF, park resources, park facilities, NOU, crowding, DPR, and size of activity space on user's satisfaction have been determined to have respectively 6.00, 4.78, 2.53, 1.83, 1.64, 1.59 and 2.03 times more important than that of EL. Among the atmospheric variables, MPRF is the most important at 1.26 times higher than that of park resources. The research results suggest that the development of devices for the increase in user's satisfaction and user management program based on the knowledge we have found, be recommended in the planning and development process of natural park. The approach adopted by this research is valid and useful for evaluation criteria of NP. It is recommended that more empirical studies by activity types, activity spaces, and seasons on atmospheric elements affecting user's satisfaction be performed in the future.

Impact of user evaluations of website attributes on recommendation intention for revitalizing B2B textile platform (B2B 섬유 플랫폼 활성화를 위한 웹사이트 평가속성이 추천의도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines options to revitalize a B2B textile trading platform, exploring user satisfaction and perceptions of the importance of several website features. Between June 8 and June 21, 2023, fashion studies majors and domestic fashion brand product planners were asked to use the website of an open B2B textile platform for 30 minutes and then evaluate its features by responding to a survey. The final sample for analysis wad comprised of 150 questionnaires. To analyze the key textile website features, a paired t-test, Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), and multiple regression analysis were utilized. The analysis classified the key textile website features related to user importance and satisfaction into the following categories: convenience, appearance, product information, and uniqueness. An analysis investigation of the differences in importance and satisfaction for each website evaluation attribute found significant differences in 12 attributes. The IPA analysis revealed that attributes such as product reliability, quality, a convenient search function, and convenient page movement are highly important to users and garner high user satisfaction; these findings demonstrate the importance of maintaining these elements. Images on the main screen, the latest trend information, and product prominence attributes also garner high importance ratings, but result in low user satisfaction, which signifies extensive revision is required. Finally, user evaluation of the convenience, appearance, and product information of the website was found to affect user recommendation intention.

  • User satisfaction has been widely used by information system(IS) researchers as the most appropriate surrogate variable for the systems success since Bailey and Pearson(1983) provided their user satisfaction measurement. Because user satisfaction is a perceived performance measure by users, not a real or objective measure for systems success, however, perceived user satisfaction by users may not be exactly identical with the real systems performance. In this regard, if the user's ultimately perceived satisfaction is different from the real systems performance, we need to investigate why these two measures are different and which factors may cause the difference. From the perspective of disconfirmation of user expecations, this study examined why user satisfaction and real systems performance may not be identical each other. Expectaion-disconfirmation theory which has had a central role in marketing in explaining the effects of expectation and disconfirmation on consumer satisfaction was similarly adopted in this study to explain the role of expectation and disconfirmation in user satisfaction in the IS environment. Based on the expectation-disconfirmation theory, the current study developed a research model to examine the effects of expectation, system performance, and disconfirmation on user satisfaction in particular. Six research hypotheses derived from the research model were empirically tested using the partial least squares(PLS) method. The results of the statistical analysis indicate that the effects of system performance and disconfirmation were fairly strong on user satisfaction, while the user's expectation has shown insignificant influences on user satisfaction.
