PC User Authentication using Hand Gesture Recognition and Challenge-Response

  • The current PC user authentication uses character password based on user's knowledge. However, this can easily be exploited by password cracking or key-logging programs. In addition, the use of a difficult password and the periodic change of the password make it easy for the user to mistake exposing the password around the PC because it is difficult for the user to remember the password. In order to overcome this, we propose user gesture recognition and challenge-response authentication. We apply user's hand gesture instead of character password. In the challenge-response method, authentication is performed in the form of responding to a quiz, rather than using the same password every time. To apply the hand gesture to challenge-response authentication, the gesture is recognized and symbolized to be used in the quiz response. So we show that this method can be applied to PC user authentication.

스마트폰 응용 프로그램의 사용자 경험 향상을 위한 사용자 중심 반응 시간 분석 도구 (A User-Centric Response Time Analyzer for Improving User Experience of Android Applications)

  • 본 논문에서는 스마트폰 사용자 중심의 반응 완료 시간에 대한 동적 분석을 활용하여 사용자가 실제 인지하는 성능 중심의 새로운 최적화 프레임워크를 제안한다. 이를 위하여 먼저 스마트폰 응용프로그램에서 사용자가 실제 인지하는 성능에 대한 평가 지표로써 사용자 중심 반응 시간을 정의한다. 또한, 이러한 사용자 중심 반응 시간의 동적 탐색에 기반하여 사용자가 인지할 수 있는 성능 병목 지점을 최적화의 힌트로써 개발자에게 제공하는 사용자 중심 반응 시간 분석 도구의 설계와 개발에 대하여 소개한다. 제안한 사용자 중심 반응 시간 분석 도구를 갤럭시 넥서스 스마트폰에 구현하여 그 정확도와 계산부하를 평가한 결과, 전체 반응 시간의 1% 미만의 계산 부하로 카메라를 이용하여 측정한 결과 대비 92%의 정확도를 보였다. 제안한 도구의 효율성 평가를 위하여 소스 코드가 공개되어 있는 안드로이드 응용프로그램의 성능 개선에 제안한 도구를 활용하여 최대 16.4%의 성능 향상을 달성하였다.

  • 갈수록 복잡화, 대량화되고 있는 시스템의 성능은 유지하면서 User Response Time 을 단축시키는 Tuning 은 투자 대비 이익률(ROI : Return On Investment)에 탁월한 효과를 가져온다는 점에서 중요시 되고 있다. 본 연구는 SAP R/3 System 환경에서 Tuning 통한 User Response Time 감소를 위하여 Query 분석 및 Table Index 생성, Program Logic 수정, Parallel Processing, SAP R/3 System 의 고유 기능인 Notes 적용을 통한 User Response Time 감소 기법을 제시한다.

지역마케팅 콘텐츠의 사용자 반응패턴과 품질특성에 관한 탐색적 분석: 지방자치단체가 운영하는 SNS를 중심으로 (An Exploratory Analysis on the User Response Pattern and Quality Characteristics of Marketing Contents in the SNS of Regional Government)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the pattern of user response and it's duration time through social media content response analysis. We also analyze the characteristics of content quality factors which are associate with the user response pattern. The analysis results will provide some implications to develop strategies and schematic plans for the operator of regional marketing on the SNS. Design/methodology/approach This study used mixed methods to verify the effects and responses of social media contents on the users who have concerns about regional events such as local festival, cultural events, and city tours etc. Big data analysis was conducted with the quantitative data from regional government SNSs. The data was collected through web crawling in order to analyze the social media contents. We especially analyzed the contents duration time and peak level time. This study also analyzed the characteristics of contents quality factors using expert evaluation data on the social media contents. Finally, we verify the relationship between the contents quality factors and user response types by cross correlation analysis. Findings According to the big data analysis, we could find some content life cycle which can be explained through empirical distribution with peak time pattern and left skewed long tail. The user response patterns are dependent on time and contents quality. In addition, this study confirms that the level of quality of social media content is closely relate to user interaction and response pattern. As a result of the contents response pattern analysis, it is necessary to develop high quality contents design strategy and content posting and propagation tactics. The SNS operators need to develop high quality contents using rich-media technology and active response contents that induce opinion leader on the SNS.

  • Purpose: This article discusses public acceptance in the information distribution of Copyright Law no. 28 of 2014 and Government Regulation No. 56 of 2021 in Indonesia concerning the commercial use of music. Hospitality industry is one of the most affected by this regulations, which some hotelsrefused to comply. To get royalties, LMKN approaches with socialization either directly or indirectly to commercial music users. Research design, data and methodology: Quantitative survey by distributing questionnaires, then testing the validity and reliability tests using the SmartPLS application. The population studied were Hotels on Java and Bali Island in Indonesia. The research sample is 100 hotels. Result: R-Square value of 0.706 for the construct (Y) User Response which means that (X) Socialization can explain the variance (Y) User Response of 70.3%. This shows that the level of influence (X) Socialization has an effect on (Y) User Response. Conclusion: User responses regarding the distribution information of the Act indicate the need for socialization, because socialization provides literacy to the public. More frequent socialization will provide a good opportunity to increase the response of commercial music users.

SMS 기반 인증의 보안 취약점을 개선한 스마트폰 소유 및 위치 확인 기법 (Smartphone Ownership and Location Checking Scheme for Fixing the Vulnerabilities of SMS-Based Authentication)

  • 많은 웹 사이트들이 사용자가 패스워드를 분실하거나 온라인 결제를 진행하는 등의 상황에서 SMS(Short Message Service) 기반의 사용자 인증을 채택하고 있다. SMS 기반 인증에서 인증 서버는 텍스트를 평문으로 전송하기 때문에 공격자가 그 텍스트를 도청하거나 가로채면 다른 사람(피해자)인 것처럼 인증을 받을 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자가 스마트폰을 지금, 어느 위치에서 소유하고 있는지를 인증하는 챌린지-응답(challenge-response) 형태의 인증 방식을 제안한다. 제안 방식은 서버가 보낸 챌린지, 사용자의 현재 위치정보, 스마트폰에 저장된 비밀 값을 모두 사용하여 응답을 생성한다. 그 결과로, 단순히 사용자가 받은 SMS 메시지를 어떤 가공도 없이 그대로 서버로 되돌리는 SMS 기반 인증에 비해, 제안 방식은 훨씬 더 안전하다. 제안 방식은 기존 SMS 기반 인증의 텍스트에 해당하는 응답의 입력과 더불어, 인증 과정의 시작을 위해 추가로 패스프레이즈(passphrase)의 입력을 요구하나, 추가 입력의 부담은 향상되는 보안성을 고려할 때 대부분의 사용자들이 감내할 수 있는 수준이라 판단한다.

  • In Smart mobile devices embedding big.LITTLE architectures, the conventional multi-core assignment scheme for user applications may incur wasteful energy consumption and long response time. In this paper, we propose a user experience assisted energy-efficient multicore assignment scheme. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves at 40% less energy consumption and at 20% less response time comparing to the legacy scheme.

컨텐츠 유통 플랫폼에서 이용자 참여와 생산자 반응의 적합성 효과에 관한 연구 (The Effect of Congruency between User Participation and Producer Response on User Generated Content)

  • Purpose - This study's objective is to analyze the content of the communications between users and producers based on the construal level theory. User generated content refers to content created in an online-based service where users and producers communicate interactively with each other. In a user generated content platform, the messages sent and received between the many players, the users and producers who use the content, may be analyzed at the psychological level based on construal level theory. Research design, data, and methodology - This study gathered user and producer participation through a snow-bowling sampling method. The data analyzed includes 125 video clips and 2,912 comments. The period of the data collection was from September 2014 to December 2014. The collected data was analyzed using a t-test and two-way ANOVA. Results - This study obtained the following research results. First, users who were a short social distance from producers responded to user participatory activities stated in concrete language rather than abstract language. In contrast, users who were at a longer social distance from producers tended to respond to the content requesting user participation through abstract language. Second, if users and producers were at a short social distance from each other, user preference increased more when a producer response to user participation was expressed concretely rather than when it was expressed abstractly. In contrast, if the users were at a longer social distance, users' preferences increased more when producer response was expressed abstractly rather than when it was expressed concretely. Conclusion - This study found that the effect of suitability, in which the social distance and the content were in congruence at the construal level, could be observed. Therefore, based on this, academic and practical implications were drawn. The three main insights of the study are as follows. First, firms can use psychological factors to analyze the message content of users in their distribution platforms. This study reveals managerial implications for marketing managers who want to take make use of this analysis of user and producer communications. This study indicates that the main factors include the concrete and abstract scores and social distance between users and producers. Second, we also provide the strategic guidelines to maximizing user preferences and other outcomes. The main dependent variable in this study is the user preference shift; the variable increases through the congruence effect; and the construal level is determined by the social distance between the users and producers and the type of producer response. The outcomes here from users can be utilized to develop several systemic strategies. One process to use the outcomes could be: (1) firms could measure the users and producers social distance; (2) calculate the concreteness or abstractness of the messages; and, (3) predict the user preference outcomes by the congruence between user and producer social distance and the abstractness or concreteness of the message content.

Impact of User Convenience on Appliance Scheduling of a Home Energy Management System

  • Regarding demand response (DR) by residential users (R-users), the users try to reduce electricity costs by adjusting their power consumption in response to the time-varying price. However, their power consumption may be affected not only by the price, but also by user convenience for using appliances. This paper proposes a methodology for appliance scheduling (AS) that considers the user convenience based on historical data. The usage pattern for appliances is first modeled applying the copula function or clustering method to evaluate user convenience. As the modeling results, the comfort distribution or representative scenarios are obtained, and then used to formulate a discomfort index (DI) to assess the degree of the user convenience. An AS optimization problem is formulated in terms of cost and DI. In the case study, various AS tasks are performed depending on the weights for cost and DI. The results show that user convenience has significant impacts on AS. The proposed methodology can contribute to induce more DR participation from R-users by reflecting properly user convenience to AS problem.

비디오 스트리밍 응답 시간 개선을 위한 데이터 사전 배치 방법 (A data prefetching scheme to improve response time of Video Streaming service)

  • 비디오 스트리밍 서비스가 다양한 단말기에서 지원되면서 사용량이 증대되었고 그로 인해 사용자 관점에서 서비스를 개선하려는 노력이 지속되고 있다. 사용자가 영상을 시청할 때 입력부터 재생될 때까지 응답 시간이 길어지면 사용자의 서비스 만족도는 저하된다. 본 논문은 사용자의 과거 시청 이력을 분석하여 선호 영상을 추출하고 이 영상 데이터를 단말기에 사전 배치하여 응답 시간을 줄이는 방법을 제안한다. 실험으로 데이터 사전 배치로 응답 시간이 최대 41% 개선되는 것을 확인하였다. 실제 스트리밍 서비스의 시청 기록을 활용하여 사용자별 선호 영상을 계산하였다. 적중률에 따른 응답 시간 변화와 시청되지 않아 낭비된 데이터양을 알아보았다. 적중률이 높아질수록 응답 시간 개선 효과가 커지는 것을 확인하였다.
