A Navigation Algorithm using Locomotion Interface with Two 6-DOF Robotic Manipulators (ICCAS 2005)

  • This paper describes a novel navigation algorithm using a locomotion interface with two 6-DOF parallel robotic manipulators. The suggested novel navigation system can induce user's real walking and generate realistic visual feedback during navigation, using robotic manipulators. For realistic visual feedback, the virtual environment is designed with three components; 3D object modeler for buildings and terrains, scene manager and communication manager component. The walking velocity of the user is directly translated to VR actions for navigation. Finally, the functions of the RPC interface are utilized for each interaction mode. The suggested navigation system can allow a user to explore into various virtual terrains with real walking and realistic visual feedback.

Observable Behavior for Implicit User Modeling -A Framework and User Studies-

  • This paper presents a framework for observable behavior that can be used as a basis for user modeling, and it reports the results of a pair of user studies that examine the joint utility of two specific behaviors. User models can be constructed by hand, or they can be teamed automatically based on feedback provided by the user about the relevance of documents that they have examined. By observing user behavior, it is possible to obtain implicit feedback without requiring explicit relevance judgments. Four broad categories of potentially observable behavior are identified : examine, retain, reference, and annotate, and examples of specific behaviors within a category are further subdivided based on the natural scope of information objects being manipulated . segment object, or class. Previous studies using Internet discussion groups (USENET news) have shown reading time to be a useful source of implicit feedback for predicting a user's preferences. The experiments reported in this paper extend that work to academic and professional journal articles and abstracts, and explore the relationship between printing behavior and reading time. Two user studies were conducted in which undergraduate students examined articles or abstracts from the telecommunications or pharmaceutical literature. The results showed that reading time can be used to predict the user's assessment of relevance, that the mean reading time for journal articles and technical abstracts is longer than has been reported for USENET news documents, and that printing events provide additional useful evidence about relevance beyond that which can be inferred from reading time. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of the implications of the reported results.

사실적인 가상 임팩트 감각 전달을 위한 햅틱 시스템 (Haptic System to Provide the Realistic Sensation of Virtual Impact)

  • 가상현실 분야에서는 사용자 경험의 몰입도를 극대화하기 위해 햅틱 피드백을 활용하고 발전시키려는 지속적인 노력이 있었다. 그러나 대부분의 햅틱 피드백은 진동 모터 등 경제성을 고려한 액추에이터를 사용하는 문제로 인해 제한적인 촉각 경험만을 사용자에게 제공할 수 있었다. 복싱과 같은 스포츠 시뮬레이션이나 게임에서의 타격 경험의 경우, 실제 물체를 타격하는 감각과 진동 액추에이터로 렌더링되는 감각 사이의 괴리 때문에 한계가 분명하다. 본 연구에서는 이를 주목하여, 사용자가 손으로 가상의 물체를 타격할 때 가상 임팩트를 생성할 수 있는 햅틱 임팩트 시스템을 제안했다. 햅틱 인터페이스는 퀵 리턴 메커니즘을 사용하여 엔드이펙터가 사용자의 주먹에 햅틱 임팩트 피드백을 직접 전달하고 진동 촉감을 통해서 사용자의 손바닥에 가상 임팩트 감각을 전달할 수 있도록 하였다. 제안된 시스템은 인간 대상 실험을 통해 평가하였으며 실험 결과는 햅틱 임팩트 가상 임팩트의 인지 강도와 사실감에 유의한 영향을 미친다는 것을 나타낸다.

동적 상호작용 함수를 애용한 검색 피드백의 개선 (Improvement of Retrieval Feedback Using Dynamic Interaction Function)

  • 본 논문은 컴포넌트 검색 시스템의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 사용자 피드백을 효율적으로 수행하는 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 기존의 퍼지 기법이 적용된 퍼지화 함수는 컴포넌트를 선택할 때마다 매번 4가지 경우의 그래프를 재구성해야 하는 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 피드백의 단점을 극복하기 위하여 검색된 컴포넌트의 선택여부에 따라 동일한 함수이지만 학습률을 달리할 수 있는 가우시안 함수를 이용한 상호작용 함수를 제안한다. 가우시안 함수를 피드백 함수로 채택 시 함수의 파라메타에 따른 검색 성능을 비교하고, 이를 토대로 가장 효율적인 동적 상호작용 함수를 제안하여 효율적인 검색 시스템을 구축하고자 한다.

  • In this paper, the design of intelligent_advertisement_operation system(IAdOS) based on user's feedback is proposed for mobile environments. The proposed system stores the advertising contents created by the advertising provider and recommends the personalized advertising contents by analyzing the context information, and then feedback information of the advertisements. Since the proposed system which can recommends provide the smart advertisement contents based on personal preference, it is expected to contribute the new service model development of in the field of advertising market.

  • Relevance feedback is the most popular query reformulation strategy in a relevance feedback cycle, the user is presented with a list of the retrieved documents and, after examining them, marks those which are relevant. In practice, only the top 10(or 20) ranked documents need to be examined. The main idea consists of selecting important terms, or expressions, attached to the documents that have been identified as relevant by the user, and of enhancing the importance of these terms in a new query formulation. The expected effect is that the new query will be moved towards the relevant documents and away from the non-relevant ones. Local analysis techniques are interesting because they take advantage of the local context provided with the query. In this regard, they seem more appropriate than global analysis techniques. In a local strategy, the documents retrieved for a given query q are examined at query time to determine terms for query expansion. This is similar to a relevance feedback cycle but might be done without assistance from the user.

As a result, the size of the output might be too large or too small. Compressed Channel Feedback for Correlated Massive MIMO Systems

  • Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a promising approach for cellular communication due to its energy efficiency and high achievable data rate. These advantages, however, can be realized only when channel state information (CSI) is available at the transmitter. Since there are many antennas, CSI is too large to feed back without compression. To compress CSI, prior work has applied compressive sensing (CS) techniques and the fact that CSI can be sparsified. The adopted sparsifying bases fail, however, to reflect the spatial correlation and channel conditions or to be feasible in practice. In this paper, we propose a new sparsifying basis that reflects the long-term characteristics of the channel, and needs no change as long as the spatial correlation model does not change. We propose a new reconstruction algorithm for CS, and also suggest dimensionality reduction as a compression method. To feed back compressed CSI in practice, we propose a new codebook for the compressed channel quantization assuming no other-cell interference. Numerical results confirm that the proposed channel feedback mechanisms show better performance in point-to-point (single-user) and point-to-multi-point (multi-user) scenarios.

FPGA-based Hardware Prediction Rendering for Low-Latency Touch Platform

  • The delay between input action and visual interface feedback ("Latency") in a touchscreen inking task reduces the user's performance. When the latency is less than 2.38ms, the user cannot perceive the latency in dragging task. This value is difficult to achieve on recent touchscreens and general purpose computers. So, methods of predicting touch points to reduce perceptible latency has been proposed. In general, touch points prediction is not perfect. When using point prediction, feedback of the predicted points is displayed on the screen, after a while, erased when the actual points are displayed. When this task is implemented by software, it causes additional latency to work to erase predicted points feedback. It therefore propose a platform for rendering point prediction feedback without additional latency by the FPGA. This platform transmits input points and HDMI signals rendering feedback of input points to the FPGA. The FPGA draws the feedback of points predicted based on the input points on the HDMI and displays the screen. Since hardware rendering changes the HDMI signal every frame, it does not require erasing work and rendering can be done within an early time regardless of the amount of rendering, so we will reduce the latency.

비연결형 데이터 서비스에서 LAN연동을 위한 폭주 제어에 관한 연구 (A study on congesting control scheme for LAN interworkding in connectionless data service)

  • This ppaer suggests a congestion control scheme for CL(ConnectionLess) overlay network using the feedback loops getween CL werver, between CL servers, and the header translation table of CL server. The CL overlay network for CBDS(Connectionless Broadband Data Service) defined by ITU0T(International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication) consists of CL servers which route frames and links which connect between CL user and CL server or between CL servers. In this CL overlay network, two kinds of congestions, link congestion and CL server congestion, may occur. We suggest a scheme that can solve the congestion using ABR(Available Bit Rate) feedback control loop, the traffic control mechanism. This scheme is the link-by-link method suing the ABR feedback control loops between CL user and CL server or between CL servers, and the header translation table of CL server. As CL servers are always endpoints of ABR connections, the congestion staturs of the CL server can be informed to the traffic sources using RM(Resource Management) cell of the ABR feedback loops. Also CL server knows the trafffic sources making congestion by inspecting the source address field of CLNAP-PDUs(ConnectionLess Network Access Protocol - Protocol Data Units). Therefore this scheme can be implemeted easily using only both ABR feedback control loop of ATM layer and the congestion state table using the header translation table of CL server because it does not require separate feedback links for congestion control of CL servers.
