  • The development and expansion of communication technology in the field of information technology (IT) have changed the method and culture of communication, mediating communication among people. In particular, since social network service (SNS) has the attributes of information delivery and processing, it has a more powerful dissipating effect and influence than other existing communication methods. The role of users in SNS is important because it has the communication structure of producer-consumer, which consists of sharing, connection and participation of users. In this line, the purpose of this study is to investigate the intention for continued use of SNS by user ability. In order to explain the motivation and behavior for continued use of SNS by users, this study employed the motivation theory and post-adaptation model. The study applied 'media literacy' to the characteristics of SNS media and environment and expanded it into the concept of 'SNS literacy' to identify the moderating effect by user ability. Referred to as 'user's ability that is required to use SNS,' the SNS literacy was verified for its moderating effect with the three sub-dimensions: 'technical accessing ability,' 'understanding ability' and 'creative ability.' The major findings of this study are as follows. First, the perceived usefulness and playfulness were found to have a significant effect on the intention for continued use of SNS, showing the same result with previous studies on technology acceptance. In other words, usefulness and playfulness are variables with an explanatory power in the SNS environment as well. Second, the conceptualization of SNS literacy with accessing ability, understanding ability and creative ability was found to be valid. Third, it was verified that there was a significant difference in the SNS literacy between perceived usefulness and continued use, indicating that users with higher ability respond sensitively to usefulness and affect continued behavior. The moderating effect of SNS literacy was also verified in the relationship between perceived playfulness and intention for continued use. The results above confirm the difference in post-adaptation behavior of individuals, and are expected to provide several implications.

  • In this paper, we propose the extension of the MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) header for efficient adaptation of multi-layer coded video such as scalable video coding (SVC) and multiview video coding (MVC) in the HTTP streaming. First of all, the limit of the existing TS in terms of flexible adaptation of multi-layer video is investigated, and the signaling by extending TS header is proposed to provide efficient adaptation in a TS level. The proposed extension utilizes the private data field in the adaptation field of TS header to signal scalability and/or view information, which enable us to support diverse adaptation that suits underlying constraints of client capabilities, network conditions and user preferences. In short, the extension enables adaptation of scalable video with full scalability as well as view selection of multiview video in a TS level while keeping backward compatibility with the existing TS syntax/semantics. The performance of the proposed extension is compared with the existing adaptation using PID (packet ID) in terms of efficiency and complexity of adaptation. Furthermore, the increase of TS overhead caused by proposed extension is analyzed and an extension scheme to minimized the overhead is proposed.

  • Adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming technology has become an important and prevalent feature in many multimedia delivery systems, with content providers such as Netflix and Amazon using ABR streaming to increase bandwidth efficiency and provide the maximum user experience when channel conditions are not ideal. Where such systems could see improvement is in the delivery of live video with a closed loop cognitive control of video encoding. In this paper, we present streaming camera system which provides spatially and temporally adaptive video streams, learning the user's preferences in order to make intelligent scaling decisions. The system employs a hardware based H.264/AVC encoder for video compression. The encoding parameters can be configured by the user or by the cognitive system on behalf of the user when the bandwidth changes. A cognitive video client developed in this study learns the user's preferences (i.e. video size over frame rate) over time and intelligently adapts encoding parameters when the channel conditions change. It has been demonstrated that the cognitive decision system developed has the ability to control video bandwidth by altering the spatial and temporal resolution, as well as the ability to make scaling decisions

  • Several energy saving techniques in cellular wireless networks such as active base station (BS) selection, transmit power budget adaptation and user association have been studied independently or only part of these aspects have been considered together in literature. In this paper, we jointly tackle these three problems and propose an integrated framework, called dynamic cell reconfiguration (DCR). It manages three techniques operating on different time scales for ultimate energy conservation while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) level of users. Extensive simulations under various configurations, including the real dataset of BS topology and utilization, demonstrate that the proposed DCR can achieve the performance close to an optimal exhaustive search. Compared to the conventional static scheme where all BSs are always turned on with their maximum transmit powers, DCR can significantly reduce energy consumption, e.g., more than 30% and 50% savings in uniform and non-uniform traffic distribution, respectively.

  • An intelligent game has been studied for some time, and the main purpose of the study was to win against human by enhancing game skills. But some commercial games rather focused on adaptation of the user's behavior in order to bring interests on the games. In this study, we are suggesting an adaptive reinforcement learning algorithm, which focuses on the adaptation of user behavior. We have designed and developed the Othello game, which provides large state spaces. The evaluation of the experiment was done by playing two reinforcement learning algorithms against Min-Max algorithm individually. And the results show that our approach is playing more improved learning rate, than the previous reinforcement learning algorithm.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct base line research, which is based on requestion of international married immigrant women, for developing social adaptation and family enrichment program for those population who reside in Korea. The survey questionnaire was distributed to 142 international married immigrant women who reside in Seoul to research program participate satisfaction and requestion. Analyze the study results, frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan-post test were utilized. As a result, overall satisfaction toward program that offered by organization was highly ranked. Visiting service showed high score of satisfaction but mentor service that strongly possess sacrifice showed lower score of satisfaction. Vocational and job-related skill improvement education presented less satisfied degree of satisfaction but cooking class, computer class, training education for native-speaking instructor present high level of satisfaction. Second, the requisition of target population, who did not participate program, presented lower than the satisfaction, still present high demand of variety area of program. Among them, assist child nurturing and vocational and job- related skill improvement education showed high demand. It enable to predict that they are eager to get support toward parent role and self-realization. Third, when the difference were analyzed to compare the subjective judgement toward life adaptation in Korea and the satisfaction for program user and the requisition of non-user, the meaningful differences were founded; especially, individuals who possess confident degree of computer skills and Korean(reading, speaking, and listening) showed higher degree of satisfaction to vocation and job-skill related improvement education. • It is difficult to get relevant information on vast Web data. Search engines summarize and store Web information and show the ranked lists based on user queries affected by relative importance and user-adaptation. But these have limitation with showing user-intended information at the top priority. User intention is presented in general within query itself. In this paper, we propose the selective rankup methodology of user-intended search results based on weighting internal contiguity in query terms. With experimental results, we can find user-intended results with 75.8% probability using this simple method only, and efficiency of rerank proposed outperforms ordinary case by $13{\sim}20%$.

  • The emergence of E-book have allowed readers to interact with other readers and to actively participate (e.g. social reading). Furthermore, there is a growing demand in writer's community to take the advantage of the feedback from their readers to update the content of E-book. To do that, they require the service that utilizes the user feedback while creating or updating the e-book content. This study aims to let authors collect and to apply the reader's feedback on E-book content. However, in order to apply the user feedback, users first need to explicitly type the feedback, and even if they do, authors need to develop the software to automatically analyze and to apply the user feedback. This makes difficult for authors without programming background to produce E-book with automatic content adaptation. In this paper, we propose Feedback Clue Model to generate, analyze and apply the user feedback into E-book content. Based on this model, we develop the block editor which allows easy implementation of E-book that can be dynamically updated.
