  • This study was carried out in order to closely examine the growth and the physiological response by shading levels of a container seedling of Daphniphyllum macropodum which is known as the species of having shade tolerance in a warm temperature evergreen broad-leaved tree. The shading treatment was regulated with the shading level of full sunlight, and 35%, 55%, 75% of full sunlight. As a result of surveying the height and the root collar diameter growth by the shading level, the height was the highest with 13.2 cm under 35% of shading. The root collar diameter was the highest with 4.99 mm under full sunlight. The organ-based (leaves, shoot and root) dry mass production and the whole dry mass production were higher with 1.38 g, 0.47 g, 0.87 g, 2.72 g, respectively, in order of 35% shading. As for chlorophyll a, b, and the total chlorophyll content, the highest chlorophyll content was shown under 75% of shading with the relatively highest shading level. The ratio of chlorophyll a to chlorophyll b (a/b) was the highest under 35% of shading. The photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and water use efficiency were the highest with $12.3{\mu}molCO_2{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, $0.27molH_2O{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, $3.53{\mu}molCO_2{\cdot}mmol^{-1}H_2O$, respectively, under 35% of shading. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, D. macropodum grows nicely by maintaining 35% shading.

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of shading and leaf mold treatment on growth characteristics and photosynthesis responses of Peucedanum japonicum in forest farming. It is very valuable as a sort of health food, so that the demand for the vegetable has increased recently. The experiment can not only increase the yield but also contribute to the development of eco-friendly technology for high-quality P. japonicum. It was performed by shading treatments (full sunlight, 35%, 50% and 75% shading) and leaf mold treatments (control, pine tree and chestnut tree). Height, stem diameter, root collar diameter, number of stem and dry weight were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Leaf area, leaf length and leaf width were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under 35% shading. Photosynthetic rate, conductance to $H_2O$, transpiration rate and water use efficiency were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Specially, photosynthetic rate was higher under chestnut-leaf mold in all shading treatment, and getting lower in the higher shading rate. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that P. japonicum grows nicely by maintaining 35% shading under chestnutleaf mold in forest farming. Thus, it is the most effective way to increase the yield for high-quality P. japonicum with eco-friendly technology.

  • This research was performed to use recycling wood fiber from waste MDF as raw materials for manufacturing of interior decorative accessories. Virgin fiber of Pinus rigida for manufacturing MDF and recycling fiber from manufactured MDF with virgin fiber were dyed by using reactive dyes (Bis-monochlorotriazine and Vinyl sulfone type), vat dyes (Anthraquinone type), direct dyes (Diazo type) such as red, yellow and blue, and natural dyes using gardenia or sappan wood, and they were examined to evaluate their dyeing properties and sunlight fastness. The hue of virgin fiber and recycling fiber were 4.2YR, and 4.4YR, respectively, which showed red-yellowish color. The recycling fiber looked a little darker than the virgin fiber, where $L^*$ values of the recycling fiber showed a little lower. Reactive, vat and direct dyes dyed well both the virgin and recycling fibers. The recycling fiber showed a little higher values of colour yield and a little lower in $L^*$, but it seemed that there was no significant difference. The Hue values of the recycling fiber and the virgin fiber dyed with sappan wood were 4.4YR and 4.0YR, showing no difference between/after dyeing. However the Hue values of the recycling fiber and the virgin fiber dyed with gardenia were 7.4YR and 6.9YR, respectively. Those values were much higher than the values of the fibers dyed with other chemical dyes. But the fibers dyed with gardenia showed poor sunlight fastness.

  • Existing IoT sensor nodes operate by receiving energy from a battery. But due to the characteristics of sensor nodes that are widely distributed for collecting various information, there is a disadvantage that the battery needs to be periodically replaced. In order to overcome this disadvantage, energy can be harvested from sunlight or high-temperature steam through an energy harvesting system. However, since the harvested power is quite limited, it is difficult to use applications that require instantaneous high power such as communication. We propose the design of the high-power energy harvesting system where a switch control unit compensates for the limited harvested energy with the energy storage device such as a capacitor. To verify the proposed system, an energy harvesting system based on sunlight was implemented, and we confirmed the maximum supply power to the application and the maximum supply time according to capacity of the energy storage device.

  • Images displayed on a digital devices under the sunlight are generally perceived to be darker than the original images, which leads to a decrease in visibility. For better visibility, global luminance compensation or tone mapping adaptive to ambient lighting is required. However, the existing methods have limitations in chrominance compensation and are difficult to use in real world due to their heavy computational cost. To solve these problems, this paper propose a piece-wise linear curves (PLECs)-based image enhancement method to improve both luminance and chrominance. At this time, PLECs are regressed through deep learning and implemented in the form of a lookup table to real-time operation. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better visibility compared to the original image with low computational cost.

  • Astronauts are constantly exposed to space radiation at a low-dose rate during long-tenn stays in space. Therefore, it is important to determine correctly the biological effects of space radiation on human health. Space radiations contain various kinds of different energy particles, especially high linear energy transfer (LET) particles. Therefore, we have to study the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of space radiation under microgravity environment which may change RBE from a stress for cells. Furthermore, the research about space radiation might give us useful information about birth and evolution of life on the earth. We also can realize the importance of preventing the ozone layer from depletion by use of exposure equipment to sunlight at International Space Station (ISS).

  • Normally if sunlight is directed on a solar cell without any increasing in temperature, the amount of absorption energy per unit area of each cell is increasing. In a silicon solar cell. however, cell conversion efficiency decreases with the increase of temperature. Therefore, to maintain cell conversion efficiency under normal condition, it is necessary to keep the cell at operating temperature. We tried to design and make new hybrid panel with cooling system to prevent increasing of temperature on cell, collect and use thermal energy more effectively. We compared performance of this new hybrid panel with current thermal panel. We also evaluated conversion efficiency, thermal capacity and confirmed cooling effects from thermal absorption efficiency.
