  • We developed a coarse-grained force field and have extended it to polystyrene with longer chain length. A systematic method was introduced and was utilized to explain how the coarse-grained force field for polystyrene could be developed from the atomistic simulation in the paper. We elected to use polystyrene with different chain lengths of 20, 40 and 80 monomers in this study. In three cases, we utilized the same new mapping scheme. The coarse-grained force field does reproduce the bond, angle, and radial distribution of the atomistic model. The coarse-grained model proved successful, as shown by analyses of the static and dynamic properties of different chain lengths.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for analyzing illocutionary force type (IfT)s in a dialogue, based on the context and modal information in the ending of a word. In korean, the variation of an illocutionary force type that represents a speaker's intention frequently occurs at the ending of a word, according to the type of modal information. And in an analysis of speech acts, the modal information illocutionary force types. In this paper, we analyze real dialogue dta, classify the types of illocutionary forces, perform the manual tagging of IFTs and show the freqency of each IFT's occurence. And we also propose an algorithm to extract IFTs, based on the relationship between the analyzed IFTs and the endings of a word. And we use this proposed algorithm to make an experiment on dialogue data and show its efficiency.

  • In this study, a mathematical nonlinear dynamic model is introduced to predict the damping force of automotive shock absorber. And 11 design parameters were proposed for the sensitivity analysis of damping force. Design parameters consist of 5 piston valve design parameters, 5 body valve design parameters and 1 initial pressure of reservoir chamber air. All of these design parameters are main design parameters of shock absorber in the procedure of shock absorber design. The simulation results of this paper offer qualitative information of damping force variation according to variation of design parameters. Therefore, simulation results of this paper can be usefully use in the design procedure of shock absorber

  • The objective of this study was to compare the differences on the activity and power of the wrist flexors and extensors in subjects before the use of a wrist extension splint, after nighttime wearing of the splint, and after daytime wearing of the splint. Ten healthy male and ten healthy female students (mean: $22.4{\pm}1.2$ years old) volunteered to wear custom-made wrist splints either during the night or during the day, The hand force of the wrist flexor and extensor, and grip force were measured by PowerTrack II and Dynatron, respectively. At the same time, the activities of the wrist flexor and extensor were recorded by' surface electromyography. The maximal hand force and motor unit recruitment of the flexor carpi ulnatis (FCU) increased significantly (p<.05) when tile subjects wore the wrist splints during the daytime, but the maximal hand power of the FCU decreased with nighttime use of the splints. The maximal hand power and motor unit recruitment of the extensor carpi radialis (ECR) and the ECR/FCU ratio decreased both during nighttime and daytime use. The decrement of the ECR/FCU ratio was significant (p<.05). Wearing a wrist extension splint during nighttime led to the maintenance of a lengthened position of the wrist flexor, resulting in the wrist flexor becoming weak. Wearing a wrist extension splint during the day induced the wrist flexors to be greater. In healthy people, the imbalance between the wrist flexors and extensors may be caused by the use of a wrist extension splint. This study indicates that therapists have to consider whether a splint will be effective, as well as the wearing time, when prescribing splints to people with problems of the musculoskeletal system.

  • Aerodynamic characteristics of crescent and D-shape bundled conductors were measured by high frequency force balance technique in the wind tunnel. The drag and lift coefficients of each sub-conductor and the whole bundled conductors were presented under various attack angles of wind. The galloping possibility of bundled conductors is discussed based on the Den Hartog criterion. The influence of icing thickness, initial ice accretion angle and sub-conductor on the aerodynamic properties were investigated. Based on the measured aerodynamic force coefficients, a computationally efficient finite element method is also implemented to analyze galloping of iced bundled conductors. The analysis results show that each sub-conductor of the bundled conductor has its own galloping feature due to the use of aerodynamic forces measured separately for every single sub-conductors.

  • The penetration force of needle and penetration energy kave been investigated, in order to research into the sewing factors that influence the weft knitted fabric with high elastic property. The results of the studies are a follows: (1) As the results have showed a high correlativity between the needle penetration energy and force, it proves that the dynamic energy produced by the friction of the needle as it penetrates and withdraws from the knitted fabric contributes to the heat growth of the needle. (2) To reduce frictional force the use of thin needles, medium ball point needle and super needle are effective. (3) The reduction in number of plies of fabric or also in the case of a decrease in penetration speed have been effective in lowering the penetration energy and force.

  • As for axisymmetirc sheet metal forming, a kind of pick-up apparatus for body-wrinkling is deviced. Experiments with both hemispherical and flat headed punches, with various clearances between punch and die, with respect to three kinds of materials each of which has two thicknesses, are performed. Firstly the process of evolution of body-wrinkling is observed. Then the critical blank-holding force (or meridional tensile force) for suppression of body-wrinkling at a specified punch-stroke is measured for all cases mentioned above. An empirical formula for it is proposed. Deformation patterns and stress distributions are analysed by the use of FEM. A simplified critical condition for body-wrinkling is formulated and introduced into the FEM program. And its effectiveness is checked by comparison with the experimental results. Using this FEM system, the governing factors of body-wrinkling are cleared up.

  • In this study, the evaluation items related to the effectiveness evaluation of the LVC (Live, Virtual, Constructive) training system of the Air Force were derived and the weights of each item were analyzed. The LVC training system evaluation items for AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis were divided into three layers, and according to the level, 3 items were derived at level 1, 11 items at level 2, and 33 items at level 3. For weight analysis of evaluation items, an AHP-based pairwise comparison questionnaire was conducted for Air Force experts related to the LVC training system. As a result of the survey, related items such as (1) Achievement of education and training goals (53.8%), (1.2) Large-scale mission and operational performance (25.5%), and (1.2.1) Teamwork among training participants (19.4%) was highly rated. Also, it was confirmed that the weights of evaluation items were not different for each expert group, that is, the priority for importance was evaluated in the same order between the policy department and the working department. Through these analysis results, it will be possible to use them as evaluation criteria for new LVC-related projects of the Air Force and selection of introduction systems.

  • The bobsleigh is a winter sport which use a sled to slide down an ice-covered course. There is a big expectation for having a training environment and being able to train year round. At present, training is very limited due to the season or course facilities. A variety of VR (Virtual Reality) equipment has been developed in recent years, and it is beginning to spread. We have also made our contribution in bobsleigh simulation. The reactive force applied in our bobsleigh simulation is much smaller than that of a real bobsleigh. This paper proposes a method to enhance reactive force of bobsleigh simulation in real time. The reactive force is magnified instantly in the physically-based simulation. The Laplacian filter is applied to the sequence of reactive force, this technique is often used in the field of image processing. The simulation is comprised of four large scale surround screens and a 6-D.O.F. (Degree Of Freedom) motion system. We also conducted an experiment with several motion patterns to evaluate the effectiveness of enhancement. The experimental results proved useful in some cases.

  • We use three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations to investigate nonlinear gravitational responses of gas to, and the resulting drag force on, a massive perturber moving on a circular orbit through a uniform gaseous medium. We assume that the background medium is non-rotating and adiabatic with index 5/3, and represent the perturber using a Plummer potential with softening radius a. This work extends our previous study where we showed that the drag force on a straight-line trajectory is proportional to a0.45 if the perturber is massive enough. This indicates that the orbital decay of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) near galaxy centers may take much longer than the prediction of the linear force formula applicable for low-mass perturbers. For the circular orbits are considered, however, we find that the nonlinear drag force becomes independent of a, but dependent instead on the orbital radius R as $\varpropto$ R0.5. This suggests not only that the choices of large values of a, for resolution issues, in recent numerical experiments for mergers of SMBH, are marginally acceptable, but also that the gaseous drag indeed provides an efficient mean for the orbtial decay of SMBHs.
