  • As the usage of smart phones continues to increase, the control UI, which users have to continue to use, sometimes finds a heavy burden on users. Therefore, in this study, we have studied the control user interface structure along with the theoretical background of the control user interface, and we have studied the role and usage of the control component based on it. Typical commonly used controls are button controls for transmission, selection controls for various selections, link controls for navigation, text controls for inputting characters, indicator controls for feedback on progress, A message control that displays information about warnings and errors, and a window control such as a dialog box. The structure of the control should be designed according to the use of the separated control to help the user efficiently use the control user interface. Based on the analysis of the theoretical usage of representative components belonging to the separated controls, we presented a new and correct way to use the control to improve the user experience. The use of improved control components will help to design the control structure efficiently and to improve the user experience.

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop an education program on cell phone use for elementary school students, and examine its effects on their knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and self-control in cell phone use. Methods: The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 64 elementary school students (31 in the experimental group and 33 in the control group). Students in the experimental group were given the education program on cell phone use. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Students in the experimental group reported increased knowledge and attitude regarding cell phone use which were significantly higher than students in the control group (p<.001, p<.001). But, self-efficacy and self-control for students in the experimental group were not different from those in the control group. Conclusion: The study results indicate that the education program for cell phone use is effective in increasing knowledge and attitude regarding cell phone use in elementary school students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between covert/overt narcissism, self-control, and peers' vulgar slang use and school aged boys' and girls' vulgar slang use. The subjects consisted of 263 boys and 256 girls in the 5th and 6th grades attending elementary schools located in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. The data collected were analyzed by means of t-test, paired t-test, Pearson's correlation, simple regression, multiple regression, using the SPSS Win 19.0. The results were as follows. 1) School aged boys' and girls' vulgar slang was found to positively associated with covert/overt narcissism. 2) School aged boys' and girls' vulgar slang use was found to be negatively associated with self-control. 3) School aged boys' and girls' vulgar slang use was found to be positively associated with peers' vulgar slang use 4) Among the variables of covert/overt narcissism, self-control, and peers' vulgar slang use, peers' vulgar slang use was the best predictor for school aged boys' and girls' vulgar slang use.

  • While earlier research reports focused on Internet addiction among adolescents, this research examines the direct/indirect impact of socio-psychological variables like stress level, self-consciousness (self-esteem, self-control, and self-efficacy), and Internet use control on Internet addiction among adults. The fact that 62.4% of survey respondents were diagnosed as Internet addicts demonstrates that this concern about Internet addiction among adults is valid. This research, first, shows the direct impact of socio-psychological variables on Internet addiction. Low self-esteem, low self-control, high self-efficacy, high levels of stress, and high Internet-use control lead to a severe level of Internet addiction. Second, self-consciousness variables mediate the impact of stress on the addiction, but the mediating role is not so significant as the direct impact. Internet-use control plays as a partial moderator between self-esteem, self-control and addiction. Internet-use control is a useful measure for Internet addition at work. In addition, businesses may take personality, as well as environmental conditions, and organizational management process into account to minimize the impact of the addiction.

  • As smartphone use is increasing within the middle-aged population, society should pay closer attention to the mental health problems associated with smartphone addiction. This study examines the possibility that depression, anxiety, and ADHD can be interpreted not only as negative aspects, but also as positive aspects, in an addiction-related individual. We used habitual and addictive smartphone behavior as the dependent variables; anxiety, ADHD, depression, and habitual smartphone use as the independent variables; and self-control as a moderating variable. Depression and ADHD in smartphone users were found to be associated with higher levels of addictive smartphone use. Anxiety was having negative effect on addictive smartphone use. However, habitual smartphone use didn't significantly affect addictive smartphone use. Further analysis indicated that depression, anxiety, and ADHD have mediating effects on habitual smartphone use. This study confirmed that psychological factors in adults, as well as habitual/addictive smartphone use and self-control, significantly influence smartphone overdependence.

  • This study examined the moderated effects of self-control on the relationship between elementary school children's excessive use of the Internet and their stress levels. The participants were 403 elementary school children from Chungnam-do. The instruments used were the 'Internet Addiction Autodiagnosis Scale (K-Scale)', the 'Stress Scale' and the 'Self-control Rating Scale'. The collected data were analyzed by t test, F test and the Scheffe test for a post hoc test, Pearson's partial correlation and stepwise multiple regression, and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS program (17.0 version). The results were as follows : First, it was found that there were significant differences in terms of excessive use of the Internet, stress levels, and self-control by gender, grade, academic achievement, the beginning year of first Internet access and the number of hours of Internet usage hours per day. Second, there were significant positive correlations between excessive use of the Internet (r = .40, p < .001) and stress levels (r = .44, p < .001) and the immediate satisfaction of self-control. Finally, the immediate satisfaction of self control was seen to moderate the relationships between the total scores for the excessive use of the Internet and stress levels and between withdrawal of excessive use of the Internet and the accompanying stress levels.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between the motivations to use social media and self-control among female middle school students. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study. To collect the data, 300 female students of S and E middle school in S city responded to a self-administered questionnaire asking about their motivation for social media use and self-control. The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffétest, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression, using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The average time spent on social media was 3.70 hours. The mean scores of social media usage motivation and self-control were 48.15 and 58.47, respectively. The more average time spent on social media, the higher was the motivation to use social media. The scores of motivation to use social media were higher in students with low satisfaction of their school and family life. Students with low satisfaction of their school life had higher scores in some subcategories of self-control; preference to simple task, egocentrism, and stroppiness. Motivations to use social media showed a significant positive correlation with self-control. Self-control was affected by motivations to use social media and this variable explained 11.6% of self-control among female middle school students. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that we should develop programs which help improve students' self-control and prevent the side effects of social media use among female middle school students.

  • We have investigated optimal control strategies for prevention of ecstasy use. Ecstasy use has continued at raves and nightclubs in recent years and the reduction of ecstasy use has become one of the important issues in society. We apply optimal control theory to a model of the peer-driven dynamics of ecstasy use. Our goal is to minimize the ecstasy use class and the intervention cost. Optimal control is characterized in terms of the solution of optimality system, which is the state system coupled with the adjoint system and the optimality equations. The numerical simulations show the optimal prevention policies of ecstasy use in various scenarios.
