  • Millimeter wave is expected as the unlimited useful frequency resources for the next generation wireless communication services. In the past, its usage was limited to the military warfare due to lack of millimeter devices. The development of GaAs pHEMT in 1980 and the progress in the processing technologies made the new consumer wireless services possible utilizing millimeter waves. Specially, most of passive components necessary for circuit design can be integrated with GaAs pHEMTs and this removes the difficulty in assembly unavoidable in hybrid design. InP based pHEMTs developed later possess all the properties of GaAs and it shows many advantages in higher frequency applications. In this paper, the status and trends of those devices and MMICs are presented and the future developing trends is also described.

  • A digital hologram generated by a computer calculation (computer-generated hologram or capture using charge-coupled device [CCD] camera) is one of the most expensive types of content, and its usage is expanding. Thus, it is highly necessary to protect the ownership of digital holograms. This paper presents an efficient visual security scheme for holographic image reconstruction with a low scrambling cost. Most recent studies on optical security concentrate their focus on security authentication using optical characteristics. However, in this paper, we propose an efficient scrambling method to protect a digital hologram. Therefore, we introduce in this paper several scrambling attempts in both the spatial domain and frequency domain on the basis of the results of analyzing the properties of the coefficients in each domain. To effectively hide the image information, 1/4, 1/256, and 1/16,384 of the original digital hologram needs to be scrambled for the spatial-domain scheme, Fresnel-domain scheme, and discrete cosine transform-domain scheme, respectively. The encryption schemes and the analyses in this paper can be expected to be useful in the research on encryption and other works on digital holograms.

  • There is no comprehensive consensus of the control patterns people op::rate shadings or the motivating factors that influence their decisions. Patterns of shading devices use can affect the energy consumption of buildings. Therefore, this study aims to analyze shading device usage patterns based on the physical factors that can affect occupants behavior. First, control patterns of indoor shading devices in apartment buildings were monitored by taking pictures. Next, frequency of shading device use together with their shading portions was analyzed based on two physical factors such as window orientation and floor level. The results showed that about 35% of the monitored apartment buildings utilized indoor shading devices. Also, the south-facing apartments were more dynamically used than their east-facing counterparts. On the contrary, there was no general trend in regards to the shading operation patterns.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to compare the mean preparation times and frequency with which Reciproc and Reciproc Blue instruments reached the full working length in mandibular molars, with or without glide path preparation. Materials and Methods: Previously untreated mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals with completely formed apices were randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 50) depending on the usage of Reciproc (RC; VDW), Reciproc Blue (RC Blue; VDW), C-Pilot (CP; VDW), and R-Pilot (RP; VDW) files: RC, RC Blue, RC + C-Pilot (RC-CP), RC-Blue + C-Pilot (RC Blue-CP), RC+R-Pilot (RC-RP), and RC Blue + R-Pilot (RC Blue-RP). A glide path was prepared using the hand-operated C-Pilot or the machine-operated R-Pilot instruments, respectively. The ${\chi}^2$ test, analysis of variance, and the Tukey post hoc test were used for statistical comparisons. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed in the distribution of the frequency of reaching the full working length in the RC (94%), RC Blue (88%), RC-CP (94%), RC Blue-CP (90%), RC-RP (96%), and RC Blue-RP (92%) groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Preparation of a glide path did not have a significant effect on reaching the full working length using these systems.

  • The synthetic aperture radar(SAR) is an equipment that can acquire images in all weathers day and night based on radar signals. The on-board processor of satellite SAR generates transmission signal by digital signal processing, converts it into an analog signal and transmits to antenna. Until the transmission signal generated by on-board processor is output, the signal passes the transmission cables and analog devices. At this time, these hardware distort the signal and makes SAR performance worse. To improve the performance, pre-distortion technique is used. But, general pre-distortion using taylor series is not sufficient to compensate for the distortion. This paper suggests transmit signal design method with improved pre-distortion. This paper uses envelop sampling method and interpolation filter for frequency domain compensation. The proposed method accurately compensates the hardware distortion and reduces resource usage of FPGA. To analyze proposed method's performance, IRF characteristics are compared when the proposed method applies to signal with errors.

  • This paper proposes a circuit utilizing auto zero technology to minimize offset and enhance accuracy in the reference generator and comparator. As evidence, a comparison between pre and post auto zero usage revealed a reduction of approximately 90% in standard deviation. The proposed circuit was implemented using a 55nm CMOS process, with an input frequency of 781.2 Hz. It achieves an Effective Number of Bits (ENOB) of 8.01 bits and a Signal-to-Noise Distortion Ratio (SNDR) of 49.98 dB.

  • Overcoming inter-cell interference and spectrum scarcity are major issues in heterogeneous cellular networks. Static Frequency reuse schemes have been proposed as an effective way to manage the spectrum and reduce ICI(Inter cell Interference) in cellular networks. In a kind of static frequency reuse scheme, the allocations of transmission power and subcarriers in each cell are fixed prior to system deployment. This limits the potential performance of the static frequency reuse scheme. Also, most of dynamic frequency reuse schemes did not consider small cell and the network environment when the traffic load of each cell is heavy and non-uniform. In this paper, we propose an inter-cell resource allocation algorithm that dynamically optimizes subcarrier allocations for the multi-cell heterogeneous networks. The proposed dynamic frequency reuse scheme first finds the subcarrier usage in each cell-edge by using the exhaustive search and allocates subcarrier for all the cells except small cells. After that it allocates subcarrier for the small cell and then iteratively repeats the process. Proposed dynamic frequency reuse scheme performs better than previous frequency reuse schemes in terms of the throughput by improving the spectral efficiency due to it is able to adapt the network environment immediately when the traffic load of each cell is heavy and non-uniform.

  • Active vibration isolation systems need the following performance specifications which are different from those of existing positioning systems: usage of seismic sensors, strict suppression of phase lead/lag in signal processing for sensors and actuators, excellent control in low frequency range and so on. In consideration of such specifications, a 3-DOF precision stage for vibration isolation is designed and modeled based on the physical characteristics. Then the major parameters such as spring constants and damping coefficients are valued by the system identification method using empirical transfer function. Finite element analysis is used as a verification and simulation tool throughout this research. This paper lays the foundation for the future research on the control of the active vibration isolation system.

  • To propose an ergonomic layout on the bridge, this study conducted a usability evaluation on the on-bridge navigational equipment of a college training ship that is in use at present. Through the usability evaluation on the training ship navigators, the possibility of operational errors with navigational equipment, the possibility of readout errors with display devices and even the effect of navigational equipment on navigation were evaluated beyond the scope of existing layouts, which adopt only the importance and usage frequency of navigational equipment. By taking ergonomic variables into consideration, this study suggested an optimized layout for on-bridge navigational equipment using a mathematical programming model.
