  • This study examined what differences were shown in the types of impulsive buying according to consumers' viewing circumstance, previous purchasing experience, and demographic factors on CATV home-shopping. For this study, data were obtained from adult women in twenties to fifties who have frequently viewed CATV home-shopping. The questionnaire was composed of three sections; characteristics of home-shopping usage, behaviors of impulsive buying and demographic factors. Data from 403 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. The results of this study were as following. First, four factors of impulsive buying types were identified. Second, differences in impulsive buying according to viewing circumstance of TV home-shopping were significant. New products were easily accepted by consumers who were reminded of previous needs with more viewing time and frequent viewing chances. Also, differences in impulsive buying according to the reason of viewing were meaningful only for the 'reminder impulsive buying. Third, consumers with more previous purchase experiences had higher reminder impulsive buying on home-shopping. Fourth, there were significant differences in age and marital status according to impulsive buying. The biggest difference was shown in the 'planned impulsive buying' corresponding to age and in the 'reminder impulsive buying' to marital status.

  • Context-aware mobile cloud computing is a new promising paradigm that allows to improve user experience by analyzing contextual information such as user location, time of the day, neighboring devices and current activity. In this paper we provide performance study of context-aware mobile cloud computing system with Volare middleware. Volare monitors the resources and context of the device. and dynamically adapts cloud service requests accordingly, at discovery time or at runtime. This approach allows for more resource-efficient and reliable cloud service discovery, as well as significant cost savings at runtime. We also have studied the performance of context-aware mobile cloud computing for different quality of service (QoS) adaptation policies. Our simulations results show that when battery level is low and CPU usage is high and user cannot maintain the initial QoS, service cost is decreased according to current adaptation policy. In conclusion, the current adaptation policy suggested in this paper may improve user experience by providing a dynamically adapted service cost according to a situation.

  • Snowboarder accidents at ski resorts are increasing; therefore, it is essential to wear protective wrist, hip and knee protectors when snowboarding. However, most studies focus on the improvement of gear or expansion of safety facilities with few studies on protectors that directly safeguard the body from accidents caused by tumbling. Protectors currently on the market do not properly consider the needs of the users. Therefore, this study investigates the reality of usage and satisfaction rate of those that use snowboarding protectors along with factors deemed important upon wearing them to provide the grounds for the development of comfortable protectors. Subjects were 1,058 adults in their 20s to 40s. First, a survey was conducted regarding demographic traits as well as the wearing and purchasing of protectors. Second, 325 people that purchased and wore protectors were investigated in regards to the wearing satisfaction rate of current commercial protectors. The results showed that 86% of the 1,058 subjects wore protectors; knee protectors (72%), hip protectors (57%) and wrist protectors (38%). Important factors upon purchasing and wearing satisfaction were studied according to demographic traits, snowboarding experience, and number of snowboard rides for one season. As a result, the damage rate increased along with the number of snowboard rides for one season. Important factors considered when purchasing varied significantly according to sex, age, snowboarding experience, and favored slopes. • Objective: To report our initial experience of percutaneous sacroplasty (PSP) with an interpedicular approach for treating painful sacral metastases involving multiple sacral vertebral bodies. Materials and Methods: This study prospectively enrolled 10 consecutive patients (six men and four women; mean age, 56.3 ± 13.8 years) who underwent PSP for painful sacral metastases involving multiple sacral vertebral bodies from March 2017 to September 2018. Visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, Oswestry disability index (ODI) values, and the number of opioids prescribed to the patients were assessed before and after PSP. The procedure duration, length of hospitalization, and complications were also recorded. Results: Mean VAS and ODI declined significantly from 6.90 ± 1.20 and 74.40 ± 5.48 before the procedure to 2.70 ± 1.34 and 29.60 ± 14.57 after the procedure, respectively (p < 0.01). The median number of opioids prescribed per patient decreased from 2 (interquartile range [IQR] 1-3) pre-procedure to 1 (IQR 0-3) post-procedure (p < 0.01). Nine of the 10 patients showed no or decreased opioid usage, and only 1 patient showed unchanged usage. The mean procedure duration was 48.5 ± 3.0 minutes. The average length of hospitalization was 4.7 ± 1.7 days. Extraosseous cement leakage occurred in three cases without causing any clinical complications. Conclusion: PSP with an interpedicular approach is a safe and effective treatment in patients with painful sacral metastases involving multiple sacral vertebral bodies and can relieve pain and improve mobility.
