  • The widespread use of self-service concepts in retailing has resulted in increased attention to the design of retail environments and to stimuli operating at the point of sale. One such merchandising technique, the "bundled presentation", i.e., related products are presented in close proximity to each other, is widely used by retailers but has rarely been investigated by academic consumer researchers. This study presents the results of a field experiment into the effects of presenting products in their usage context. Customers' attitudes towards the same product displayed in different ways are compared with each other. The results show that related products, i.e., products that are used together, should be presented in a coordinated display. Furthermore, the bundled presentation enhanced consumers' attitudes of the product when they saw it first in a bundled presentation and then evaluated it in front of a traditional presentation.

  • As the number of cell phone users become growing, some researchers have presented that the imprudent use of mobile phones exerts harmful influence on electronic devices such as medical appliances, takeoff and landing system of aircraft. In this paper, we propose a usage model based on context-awareness which can be applied to mobile devices. The model controls the usage of both mobile devices themselves and mobile contents according to some context information like location, time, the circumference noise, etc. The proposed usage control model includes a dynamic role-based access control approach. To show the effectiveness of the proposed model, we have implemented a prototype system on an embedded board and PC server, and evaluated the performance of the system.

  • This study examined the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) on the sociocultural dimensions of the family by comparing ICT use in Korean, Chinese, and American families. This study investigated attitudes to ICT usage in the family context by country and explored how various consumers use ICT in the family context. The study explored how families can be clustered based on usage. ICT device ownership had differences in the use of ICT services including blogs and video chatting accounts. ICT usage in the family was also similar in all three countries in the study, but the depth of use differed. The cluster analysis indicated that users could be classified into four groups, however the proportion in each group differed by country. This study has implications for understanding ICT ownership and use by families in various countries and indicates that sociocultural elements are important in ICT use.

  • Nowadays, people start to focus on the value of 'Mindfulness' and 'Slowness', instead of the importance of 'Development' and 'Advancement' in their whole life. According to this background, we attempted to find new research opportunities on User Experience(UX) in usage context of 'Erasing'. Through a interdisciplinary literature review on related works regarding the concept of erasing, we tried to understanding the meaning of erasing within the perspective of philosophy, psychology, and human-computer interaction(HCI). We also conducted the contextual inquiry, one of the qualitative research methods to examine the actual usage context and the user's experience, with 79 users who were required to erase something in three usage contexts, including Paper-Eraser condition, Computer-Keyboard condition, and Tablet PC condition. The results indicate that it is important to provide not only effective erasing but also satisfaction for users in the usage-context of erasing. From these attempts, we expect that our findings will be helpful to understand the meaning of the erasing in academic and practical fields.

  • Speech recognition has recently been investigated to produce more reliable recognition results in a noisy environment, by integrating diverse sources of information into the result derivation-level or producing new results through post-processing the prior recognition results. In this paper we propose a method which uses the user's usage patterns and the context information in speech command recognition for personal mobile devices to improve the recognition accuracy in a noisy environment. Sequential usage (or speech) patterns prior to the current command spoken are used to adjust the base recognition results. For the context information, we use the relevance between the current function of the device in use and the spoken command. Our experiment results show that the proposed method achieves about 50% of error correction rate over the base recognition system. It demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • The needs of strategic approach toward the usage of the Internet in corporate context are increasingly important as digital economy changes the way of doing business. However, companies are not easily taking the opportunity since the strategic use of the Internet is difficult because of the conflicts in distribution, business process, organization structure, etc. The Internet strategy applicable to companies in a generic context is proposed by identifying the CSFs (Critical Sucess Factors) in exploiting the potential of the internet. CSFs are derived by the previous study and case analysis, from which two most important factors are chosen based on a survey. In the survey, the ranking of the significance of the 8 CFSs from the 25 cases is questioned to the internet experts. Then a $2{\times}$2$ matrix is designed to find the optimal area for a company to be successful in the Internet usage. The strategy suggested here appears to be the shifting strategy in order to be in the optimal area in using the Internet strategically.

  • Context-aware application has a lot of power consumption because it creates context by using a number of smartphone's sensors. Furthermore, only few kinds of researches have been conducted that provide information for the evaluation result of power consumption in the aspect of applications. In addition, evaluation of power consumption do not consider user's usage pattern or provide only total amount of power consumption, and inform developers power consumption of sensors undistinguishable. It makes developers hard to develop a power consumption-considered application. If developers could get information for power consumption of context-aware application in detail, a development of power-considered context-aware applications would be possible. Consequently, this paper proposes a BMT(Bench Mark Test) model which is able to inform developers useful evaluation criteria and result about power consumption of smartphone's components and sensors with usage pattern considered.
