Beijing Olympic Forest Park, which occupies about 680hectares, sustains a healthy ecosystem in Beijing by maintaining regional ecological systems and improving urban ecology.
The necessity of urban regeneration is recently increasing because of the deterioration existing urban area and the slowdown of new development operations. The urban regeneration is differentiated from other private operations by its public characters, which is the basis of public support. This character demands verification of the adequacy for public finance support by monitoring urban regeneration planning and operation. Therefore, this study aims to show the monitoring indicators and its application in legal system for urban regeneration through the examination of foreign countries cases. London, San Francisco, and France urbanism regulation and planning system show the measure for introducing urban regeneration monitoring system into korean urbanism institution. This study is significant by suggesting the circulation structure of urban regeneration by linking planning, operations and monitoring phases. The monitoring system permits improvement of urban regeneration by clarifying objects and ameliorating efficiency by continuos observation and application of its evaluation.
Studies on landscape ecology have focused on conceptual aspects, while empirical focus for spatial planning has been rarely conducted. This study conducted an empirical analysis to enhance landscape ecological performance of urban developments using landscape ecology. To do so, concrete criteria and standards to analyze structural, functional and variational mechanisms of urban landscape ecology were developed. An integrated landscape ecology assessment model that can be applied to urban development planning was established by combining the criteria. Next, Landscape Ecological Management System (LEMS) was developed to implement an integrated assessment using GIS. To verify the effectiveness of the system, a case study was conducted using LEMS on Byulnae City in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The LEMS can be useful for urban planners and policy makers in their selection of desirable planning alternatives. Moreover, the LEMS developed in this study can be a useful tool for academia in terms of the implementation of further related studies, and for planning professionals in their environmental impact assessment tasks.
This study aims to develop the Extended Urban Land Information System (EULIS) which can support the sustainable urban management. Although the existing Urban Land Use Information system (ULUIS) that aids the micro-level land use information is a good means for the understanding of urban spatial structure and district-level planning and management (such as urban design, redevelopment planning and district-level transportation planning, etc.), it has some limitations in supplying the information for sustainable urban management, such as environmental and traffic analysis, urban infrastructure's carrying capacity analysis, etc. The EULIS is designed to efficiently supply the information for sustainable urban management. For the successful construction of EULIS, the followings have to be considered. 1) the integration of topographic maps which contain the building's footprints and cadastral maps which contain the parcel's boundary, 2) the integration of EULIS and FM (Facility Management) system for the full utilization of information about capacity analysis of infrastructure, 3) the construction of standardized georeferencing system and spatial unit for the combined use of environment and traffic census data. This study shows 1) why EULIS is needed for the sustainable urban management and which elements are needed for the system,2) the E-R data model for the EULIS, 3) the strategies for the construction of EULIS and 4) the conclusion.
This study aimed at framing alternative urban planning scenarios reflecting urban planning factors, performing urban climate simulation and evaluating eco-friend and low energy characteristics of each scenario on the viewpoint of urban temperature and energy savings on the target of the costal city including Haeundae District in Busan The results are as follows. 1)The fact that urban higher temperature is approximately 2.5 times higher in the building constructed area than whole urban area was represented severe higher temperature phenomenon in the built-up area. Ground greening, water scenario and soil scenario could be expected peek air temperature alleviating effect in order. Especially water scenario had significant effect(maximum $2.5^{\circ}C$) on lowering of air temperature.
The purpose of this study is to provide a logical basis for guarantee the effectiveness of the tax support system, which is one of the main measures to prevent the side effects of commercial gentrification. For this purpose, this study analyzes the combination of tax support to replace the loss of net rental income due to stabilize commercial rents and annual rent increase rate that can be substituted through the tax support system based on economic utility of commercial lessors in Seoung-dong, Seoul. The result of this study shows that the tax support system can be used as an effective means to substitute a considerable portion of the net rental income loss due to stabilize commercial rents of Seongsu-dong. However if the rent price continues to rise every year, the tax support system does not work. In order to guarantee the sustainability of the tax support system, annual rent increase rate should be kept below a certain level.
Urban planning and engineering undergraduate students need to understand the earth physical systems and that how human beings interact with the earth systems to planning and engineering urban area. The eco-friendly or geo-friendly design and planning of an urban area is a critical issue not only for economic benefits but more importantly for the sustainable future of urban life. However, little study has been done dealing with the urban engineering students' understanding of the earth as a system and what pedagogical approach is appropriate to improve their understanding of the earth as a system. This study is to investigate the impact of a purposely designed ESS course on urban engineering students' understanding of the earth as a system and their perceptions about the instructional approaches of the course on their learning competency. This study utilized a mixed-methodology with three main data sources: concept maps, student's perception survey about their learning competency, and course contents. Both the survey and concept maps were analyzed quantitatively as well as qualitatively. The result of this study showed that the urban engineering students' experience of team-based research about the topic they chose based on their own interest had a positive impact on their understanding of the earth as a system and their learning competency. The results of this study suggest that structuring and presenting the earth system contents in the context of engineering students' understanding and their future career be effective not only for the improvement of students' content knowledge but also for the enhancement of their learning competency such as creativity and problem-solving skills in everyday life situation.
Planning activity is complex process assuming the term "complexity" as a group of elements interconnected each other. The common knowledge about city planning underlines its main aim as: figuring the present, imaging the future, governing every day the territory and the way people use and live it at different scales. When considering the strength of technological opportunities and the spreading of ICT and IoT devices within everyday life, that mean within the life of cities, the complex nature of the urban system increases with the intensification of information and their connections. Recent orientations about urban and regional planning try to carry the discipline to a more flexible approach in respect to the hyperdeterminant role of direct technical applications. This passage is a fundamental aspect considering the faster and faster modifications of social and economic assets at the global and local scale. At the same time, the "environment question" became more and more relevant at the worldwide scale within the 2015 UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Another relevant aspect about the recent urban planning orientations regards the role of the different subjects that are part of the planning process. Approaching the government of smart cities means to define how every subject, with different roles (public or private), could enrich the knowledge of the functioning of the "urban machine" and the awareness of participation of people and city users in the quality of urban life. In the paper author starts defining recent approaches in urban planning, then the nature of the city as a complex system is analyzed from the point of view of planners and of the different subjects that act in the city. Then the smart city is introduced as a further level of complexity and finally author propose the basic element of a Planning Support System.
Recently, many people can experience the virtual space by smartphone, and they use many games. In particular, this change has great implications in the collaborative and communicative planning paradigm, which is residents' participation and agreement becoming important in community making and urban design. This study analyze the case of the five virtual space games about community making and urban design, and examine the related regal system. Game users can construct roads, houses, buildings and facilities in the virtual city. Then, they create profit, and promote the growth of virtual city. In these games, construction elements are classified residential, commercial, industrial, parks, green spaces, public building, and roads. But these elements does not identified clearly, and they mixed. By analyzing of related regal system, these games focus on the individual buildings, spaces, and facilities rather than considering the terms of urban planning. To complement the virtual space game with the aspects of urban planning, these games can encourage the participation capability and enhance the communication skills of citizens.
The most important issue of modern cities is a crime. Crime prevention through environmental planning is needed in the urban mixed-use commercial facilities which have an important role of modern urban life, and have a positive elements for local society. The purpose of this study is to propose a direction of crime prevention through environmental planning for the urban mixed-use commercial facilities. In order to accomplish this purpose, a questionnaire survey is performed on users of urban mixed-use commercial facilities to evaluate the importance and satisfaction. The conclusions are as follows; 1) Crime prevention through environmental planning is needed in the public space which forms boundary between urban mixed-use commercial facilities and other urban facilities. 2) Safety support planning is necessary for women and children for crime prevention of urban mixed-use commercial facilities. 3) Crime prevention planning is needed in urban mixed-use commercial facilities of the various isolation space. 4) Crime prevention through environmental planning is needed for facilities of after business hours. 5) Various security alarm system considering the characteristics of the space is needed for crime prevention. 6) Community program is necessary in order to increase the utilization of external public space. 7) A sign is necessary to prevent a criminal act in urban mixed-use commercial facilities. 8) The connection of commercial facilities and activity inducing factors is needed.
