The Organic agricultural techinques were investigated through the observations made for 3 years of the actual conditions of a farmer who has been practicing organic agriculture over 21 years. The farmer was a member of the Ichijima-cho Organic Agriculture Association. The Farmer had not performed much of the organic agricultural techinques at the beginning of his farming history. However, he has gradually developed techniques upon the experiences with trial and error. The notable characteristic of his basic organic agriculture was the utilization of a suitable organic fertilizer to make the soil fertile. Crop damages by diseases and insect pests were prevented through a fertile soil, raising of good seedlings, adoption of tolerant varieties and planting at a wide spacing and consequently considering not to use chemical pesticides. Introduction of power weeder for weed control and paddy-upland crop rotation reduced the cost of production for farming. The crop pattern and method of land us such as mix cropping, crop rotation and conversion of paddy field-upland fieldd were appeared to be very important in organic agriculture. The organic agricultural techniques get systematized upon the adaptation the regional ecology and the development of skills of the farmer. The most important point to achieve the success in organic agriculture system is not only by the development of the technical matters but also by the building of healthy relation and understandings between producers and consumers.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of onion cultivation under paddy and upland condition on the yield and storage of onion bulbs. In comparison of soil conditions, nitrogen, phosphate, potassium content and average temperature in upland condition were higher than those of paddy condition, but calcium, magnesium, sodium and water content in paddy condition were higher than those of upland condition. The growth of aerial part was better in upland cultivated condition. It showed that bulb formation in paddy cultivated condition was faster during in early growth stage, but was slower during in late growth stage. Average bulb size and weight were higher in upland cultivated condition, but dry weight per 100 g fresh weight and bulb hardness were higher in paddy cultivated condition. Sugar contents, inorganic compounds, nitrogen, phosphate and potassium content of onion were higher in upland cultivated condition, but calcium, magnesium and sodium content of onion were higher in paddy cultivated condition. In distribution of onion bulb size, most of large sized onions were produced in upland cultivated condition. Average bulb production for seed harvesting were $63{\sim}70%$ higher in paddy cultivated condition than that of upland cultivated condition. The rotted rate of onion was about $27.2{\sim}34.6%$ in paddy, $37.5{\sim}51.4%$ in upland cultivated condition respectively, showed favorable result as the difference of $8.7{\sim}24.2%$ in paddy cultivated condition.
For the survey of weed distribution in the cultivated upland of Korea, weed species were investigated at 2 field by crop of 2 myon per kun in 81 kun selected among the 139 kun of the whole country. 232 species in 46 families were observed, totally. From among the result, 165 species in 39 families the in winter crop field, 189 species in 41 families in the summer crop field were classified. 122 species in 34 families were emerged the from the upland crop field of the whole season. Further more, in the 10 dominant weed species which emerged from upland crop field, Alopecurus aequalis, Chenopodium album, slellaria media, Galium spurieum, Capsella bursa-pastoris and Rorippa islandica were dominated in the winter upland and paddy field, and that Erigeron canadensis, Cyperus amuricus, Equisetum arvense and Arenaria serpyllifolia were dominated in the winter upland field, additionally. Stellaria alsine, Bothriospermum tenellum, Trigonotis peduncularis and Polygonum arviculare were dominated in the winter cropping on drained paddy field, additionally. In the summer crop field, Digitaria sanguinalis, Portulaca oleracea, Acalypha australis, Echinochloa crus-galli, Setaria viridis, Persicaria hydropiper, Amaranthus lividus, commelina communis, Chenopodium album and Cyperecs amuricus were dominated.
Variations in growth and yield of adlay(Coix lachyma-jobi var. ma-yuen Stapf) was monitored in farmer's fields in Yunchon, the main producing area in Korea, where the field condition showed difference in topograyphy, crop rotation, and ridge shape. Rotation cropping increased remankably stem length, and number of effective tillers, reduced the occurrence of leaf blight and crop damage by the disease, and in addition showed positive effect to repress the occurrence of stem-borerin upland field. Stem length was greater in upland field than in paddy field and this result seemed to be related to lodging degree. The even field with crop rotation system showed the highest seed yield and followed by hillside field and paddy field resulted the lowest yield.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect on evapotranspiration and yield of soybean according to different soil water conditions, and to find the optimum time and amount for irrigation in soybean cultivation. The difference between potential evapotranspiration (PET) and maximum evapotranspiration (MET) during growing season of soybean planted in lysimeter was higher during reproductive stage than during vegetative one. The maximum crop coefficient was obtained at beginning seed stage of soybean. Soil water coefficient of irrigation treatment was higher than that of non-irrigation treatment during soybean growth stage in field experiment. Grain yield was highest in lysimeter due to its high water use efficiency and evapotranspiration rate.

Cultivation of high-quality forage crop by using fallow field during winter is required for national high feed self-sufficiency and establishment of self-supply system of high-quality forage crop. Field experiments for cultivation of high-quality winter forage crop were conducted at the paddy and upland fields in Cheonan and Anseong city with treatments of single Italian ryegrass(IRG) and IRG mixed with forage barley at the paddy field and of single forage barley and forage barley mixed with IRG at the upland field in the Mid-west plain. Several cultivation conditions such as broadcasting IRG seed under standing rice, sowing time, tillage method, drainage condition, mixed sowing with forage barley were compared to know the change of growth, yield and quality of winter forage crop. In particular, over-wintering rate and dry matter yield were decreased significantly in late-sown IRG and moisture-stressed forage barley. Yield and quality of forage crops were increased by sowing after tillage, mixed sowing of IRG with barley at the paddy field with good drainage. High yield as much as dry matter $10MT\;ha^{-1}$ with high feed value could be obtained by early sowing of feed barley mixed with IRG at the upland field. Cultivation conditions such as early sowing, sowing after tillage, drainage management are required for higher dry matter yield, quality and stable cultivation of winter forage crops in the mid-west plain of Korea.
Purpose of this study was to estimate of soil erosion, which is related with crop productivity and water quality in watershed, in Seonakdong river watershed using USLE. The data set for USLE estimation were derived from detailed digital map(K factor), satellite imagery(C and P factors) and DEM(LS factor). The R factor was calculated by AWS data from Kimhae agricultural technology center. The soil loss from arable land was equivalent of 31.5% of total soil loss in Seonakdong river watershed. The soil loss amount of paddy field and upland were 2.8% and 97.2% of arable land, respectively, even in the area where paddy field was occupied much largely as 76.3%. The reason of large amount of soil loss from upland was that 30.4% of upland was distributed at "severe" and "very severe" soil erosion grade in watershed. The distribution of soil erosion grade during cropping season(May-Sept.) was similar to the annual soil loss. Soil erosion of non-cropping season(Oct.-Apr.) was small due to a low R factor. But, soil erosion grade of near mountain footslope areas showed severe and very severe even in non-cropping season.

With the development of digital technology, the size of the smart agriculture market at home and abroad is rapidly expanding. It is necessary to establish a foundation for sustainable precision agriculture in order to respond to the aging of rural areas and labor shortages. This study was conducted to establish an automated digital agricultural test bed for soybean production management using data suitable for agricultural environmental conditions in Korea and to demonstrate the field of leading complexes. In order to manage water smartly, we installed a subsurface drip irrigation system in the upland field and an underground water level control system in the paddy field. Based on data collected from sensors, water management was controlled by utilizing an integrated control system. Irrigation was carried out when the soil moisture was less than 20%. For effective water management, soil moisture was measured at the surface, 15cm, and 30cm depth. The main growth characteristics and yield, such as stem length, number of branches, and number of nodes of the main stem, were investigated during the main growth period. During the operation of the test bed, drought appeared during the early vegetative growth period and maturity period, but in the open field smart agriculture test bed, water was automatically supplied, reducing labor by 53% and increasing yield by 2%. A test bed was installed for each field digital farming element technology, and it is planned to verify it once more this year. In the future, we plan to expand the field digital farming technology developed for leading farmers to the field.
Occurrence of adult alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica Gyllenhal, was observed at Chinese milk vetch field, and host plant preference of its $1^{st}$ generation adult was observed at greenhouse and Chinese milk vetch field. The over-wintered adult of the weevil appeared from late March and peaked in mid April while the $1^{st}$ generation adult appeared from late April and peaked in late May. However, the occurrence of over-wintered adult was very low contrary to the $1^{st}$ generation adult which was very high with some variations among observed years. In greenhouse, host plant preference of $1^{st}$ adult generation of H. postica was evaluated with 11 different seedlings. H. postica was found to occur in significantly higher number on Chinese cabbage seedling followed by soybean, and kale at 7 days after releasing(DAR). Corn, crown daisy and sorghum were found to be the least preferred with nil occurrence of the weevil. Seedlings damage rate by H. postica feeding at 7DAR was the most severe on Chinese cabbage(60.0%) followed by soybean(50.0%), kale(30.0%), foxtail millet(16.7%), proso millet(13.3%) and lettuce(3.3%) significantly. Also, seedlings damage rate by H. postica at 7DAR in Chinese milk vetch field had shown the similar trend with Chinese cabbage(46.7%), soybean(43.3%), kale(23.3%), foxtail millet(13.3%) and proso millet(13.3%) in greenhouse significantly. Accordingly, results on host plant preference of H. postica from this study can be used as a basic information for safe cultivation of upland crops at near or around green manure crop field.
