A large grain YBCO bulk superconductor is fabricated by the top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) method. In the TSMG process, the seed crystal is placed on the top surface of a partially melted compact and therefore the seed crystal is frequently tilted during the melt process due to intrinsic unstable nature of Y211 particle +liquid phase mixture. In this work, we report the successful growth of single-domain YBCO bulk superconductors by a bottom-seeded melt growth (BSMG) method. Investigations on the trapped magnetic field and the microstructures of the synthesized specimens show that a bottom-seeded melt growth method has hardly affected on the crystal growth behavior, the microstructure development and the magnetic properties of the large grain YBCO bulk superconductors. The bottom-seeded melt growth method is clearly beneficial for the stable control of seed orientation through the melt process for the fabrication of a large grain YBCO bulk superconductor.
Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce a methodology to assess driver's emotion stability by using bio-signals. Background: Psychophysiological analysis of driver's behavior has been conducted to improve the driving safety and comfort. However, the variability of bio-signal and individual difference made it difficult to assess the psychophysiological status of drivers that can be expressed as emotional stability of drivers. Method: Two experimental studies were reviewed and summarized. New techniques assessing emotional stability of drivers were explained. Statistical concept and multidimensional space were used to identify the emotionally stable conditions. Conclusion: Psychophysiological approach can provide information of driver's emotional status. The experimental methodology and algorithm used in this study showed the possibility of parameterization of psychophysiological response. Application: Currently measured statistical and geometrical data can be further applied to develop an interactive device monitoring and reacting driver's emotion when driver experiences emotionally unstable or uncomfortable situation.

This paper deals with numerical efficiency of nonlinear solution technique for space trusses. It will propose the combined Arc-length method to trace structural behavior after reaching buckling load as opposed to the current Arch-length method. The combined Arc-length method uses the current stiffness parameter as a control variable. It uses Secant-Newton method in stable path and applies Arc-length method in unstable path. To evaluate efficiency of solution technique, the accuracy of solution, convergence, and computing time concerning illustrative numerical examples are compared with the current Arc-length method. It show that the combined Arc-length method, as proposed in this paper, is superior to the current Arc-length method in numerical nonlinear analysis.
Effect of vacuum annealing on the microstructures and magnetic properties of $Fe_{84}Si_6B_{10}$ films has been investigated as a function of annealing temperature. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy were employed to analyze crystallization behavior of the films. Permeability of the films was measured at various frequencies by one-turn coil method. When the films were annealed below 673 K, the coercivity of the films did not change a lot (${\~}$1500 A/m) although the grain size of a crystalline phase in the partially crystallized films increased gradually up to about 16 nm. It then increased rapidly as the films became almost fully crystalline mostly with $\alpha$-(Fe,Si) phase at and above 723 K. On the other hand, the electrical resistivity of the films decreased monotonically with the increase of annealing temperature. The permeabilities of the films annealed at 473${\~}$673 K were all over 1000, showing the optimum value of 3500 at 523 K, and almost constant up to 300 MHz. However, those of the as-deposited and fully crystallized films were lower than 1000 and unstable at the same frequency range.

This paper presents a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) overlay multicast tree construction algorithm to support stable multimedia service over the Internet. While constructing a multicast tree, it takes into account not only the link delay, but also peer stability. Since peers actually show dynamic and unstable behavior over P2P-based network, it is essential to consider peer stability. Furthermore, the weighting factor between link delay and peer stability is adaptively controlled according to the characteristics of the multicast tree. Basically, Genetic algorithm is employed to obtain a near optimal solution with low computational complexity. Finally, simulation results are provided to show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

In order to investigate the behavior of fatigue crack growth of SiC-particulate- reinforced Al-Si alloy composites, fatigue tests using single edge notched tension(SENT) specimens were performed. Composite materials were manufactured by using both permanent die casting and extrusion processes with different volume fractions of $10\%\;and\;20\%$. $SiC_p-reinfurced$ Al-Si composites showed the increased levels of threshold stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K_{th}$, for the increased volume fractions of SiC particles, which implies the increased fatigue crack growth resistance at the threshold or low ${\Delta}K$ levels, compared to the unreinforced Al-Si alloy. In the Paris region, however, the composites showed the increased rate of crack growth resulting in the unfavorable effects on the fatigue crack growth resistance. Critical stress intensity factor range at unstable crack growth leading to final fracture decreased as the volume fraction of SiC particle increased, because of the reduced fracture toughness of the composites. Extruded materials showed higher threshold and critical values than the cast materials.
In this study, a laminated composite material with dispersing aluminum oxide powder between the CFRP laminate plies, and also CFRP composites without aluminium oxide powder were fabricated for Mode I experiments using the DCB specimen and a tensile test. The behavior of the crack and the change of the interfacial fracture toughness were evaluated. Also in order to evaluate the damage mechanism for the crack extension, the AE sensor on the surface of the DCB test specimen was attached. AE amplitude was estimated for CFRP-alumina and CFRP composite. And the fracture toughness was evaluated by the stress intensity factor and energy release rate. The results showed that an unstable crack was propagated rapidly in CFRP composite specimen along with the interface, but crack propagation in CFRP-alumina specimen was relatively stable. From results, we show that aluminium oxide powder spreaded uniformly in the interface of the CFRP laminate carried out the role for preventing the sudden crack growth.
Laser welding by fiber laser accompanied by a lot of spatter and humping bead. This is because the deep and narrow keyhole usually form due to high beam quality. So the weld bead is formed defects, because the plasma jet with a high vapor pressure make the molten pool on keyhole wall scattered. For such a reason, unstable behavior of keyhole is difficult to monitor laser welding by using the laser induced plasma. Mostly, fiber laser welding of thick plates most be influenced by this effect. Therefore, fiber laser welding has been difficult to apply the sole. Thus, laser welding monitoring based on plasma measurements have much difficulty in measurements and analysis of signal. In this study, influence of the plasma emission signal according to welding speed and laser power in fiber laser welding analysed by using RMS and FFT analysis. We can verify that RMS value of the plasma emission signal changes with welding parameters in fiber laser welding, and aspect ratio greater than 1, the peak of FFT frequency had been moved in accordance with welding parameter.

We propose the crack growth rate equation which applied over three regions (threshold region, stable region, unstable region) of fatigue crack propagation. Constant stress amplitude fatigue tests are conducted for four materials under three stress ratios of R=0.05, R=0.2 and R=0.4. Materials which have different mechanical properties i.e. stainless steel, low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and aluminum alloy are used. The fatigue crack growth rate equation is given by $da/dN={\beta} (1-R)^{\delta}\({\DELTA}K-{\DELTA}K_t)^{\alpha} / (K_{cf}-K_{max})$${\alpha}, {\beta}$ , and ${\delta}$ are constants, and ${\Delta}K_t$ is stress intensity factor range at low ${\Delta}K$ region. The constants are obtained from nonlinear least square method. $K_{ef}$is critical fatigue stress intensity factor. The relation between half crack length and number of cycles obtained by integrating the crack growth rate equation is in agreement with the experimental data. It is also experimented with constant maximum stress and decreasing stress ratios, and the fatigue growth rate of each material is in accord with the proposed equation.

The fracture resistance and tensile properties of $Y_2O_3$ oxide dispersion strengthened steel containing 9 wt% Cr(9Cr-ODS) were measured at various temperatures up to $700^{\circ}C$. The fracture characteristics were compared with those of commercial E911 ferritic/martensitic steel. The strength of 9Cr-ODS was at least 30% higher than that of E911 steel at the test temperatures below $500^{\circ}C$. The strength difference between the two materials was almost diminished at $700^{\circ}C$. 9Cr-ODS showed cleavage fracture behavior at room temperature and unstable crack growth behaviors at $300^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. The J-R fracture resistance of 9Cr-ODS was much lower than that of E911 steel at all temperatures. It was deduced that the coarse $Cr_2O_3$ particles that were formed during the alloying process provided the crack initiation sites of cleavage fracture in 9Cr-ODS.
