  • Unscented Kalman filter based backward filter is derived and the positions from extended Kalman filter, unscented Kalman filter, and extended Kalman smoother are compared and analyzed through a simulation test. Considering the poor GPS signal reception, the simulation is performed under the assumption of only the start and end points of the trajectory, composed of 4 curves and 5 straight sections in the area of $40m{\times}40m $, are known. The test shows that the smoothers generate much better positioning results of 8~9m improvement compared to those from the forward filters. For the comparison between the smoothers, the analysis is performed separately for the curves and straight segments. In both cases, the unscented Kalman smoother generates better positioning error; 10cm and 23cm improved positioning results in straight segment and curves, respectively.

  • This paper focuses on a performance analysis of TRN among various nonlinear filtering methods. In a TRN research, extended Kalman filter(EKF) is a basic estimation algorithm. In this paper, iterated EKF(IEKF), EKF with stochastic linearization(SL), and unscented Kalman filter(UKF) algorithms are introduced to compare navigation performance with original EKF. In addition to introduced sequential filters, bank of Kalman filters method, which is one of the batch method, is also presented. Finally, by simulating an artificial aircraft mission, EKF with SL was chosen as the most consistent filter in the introduced sequential filters. Also, results suggested that the bank of Kalman filters can be alternative for TRN, when a fast convergence of navigation solution is needed.

  • Positions of tactical objects are represented as Time, Space and Position Information(TSPI) in modeling and simulations(M&S). The format and required information record for TSPI is investigated by referring the TSPI object model of the Test and Training Enabling Architecture(TENA), which has been developed by the United States Department of Defense. The most sophisticated tactical data link, Link-16 has a Precise Participant Location and Information (PPLI) message. We study the data format for exchanging TSPI data based on the PPLI message. To evaluate and track positions of tactical objects, we consider the Kalman filter for linear systems, and the extended Kalman filter and the unscented Kalman filter for nonlinear systems. Based on motion equations of a ballistic missile, the tracking performance for the trajectory of the ballistic missile is simulated by the unscented Kalman filter.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel quadratic Kalman filter based object tracking algorithm using moving pictures. Quadratic Kalman filter, which is introduced recently, has not yet been applied to the problem of 3-dimensional (3-D) object tracking. Since the mapping of a position in 2-D moving pictures into a 3-D world involves non-linear transformation, appropriate algorithm must be chosen for object tracking. In this situation, the quadratic Kalman filter can achieve better accuracy than extended Kalman filter. Under the same conditions, we compare extended Kalman filter, unscented Kalman filter and sequential importance resampling particle filter together with the proposed scheme. In conculsion, the proposed scheme decreases the divergence rate by half compared with the scheme based on extended Kalman filter and improves the accuracy by about 1% in comparison with the one based on unscented Kalman filter.

  • Satellite formation flying can provide the platform for interferometric observation to acquire the precise data and ensure the flexibility for space mission. This paper presents development and verification of an algorithm to estimate the baseline between formation flying satellites. To estimate a baseline(relative navigation) in real time, EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) and UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter) are used. Measurements for updating a state-vector in Kalman Filter are GPS single difference data. In results, The position errors in estimated baseline are converged to less than ${\pm}1m$ in both EKF and UKF. And as using the two types of Kalman filter, it is clear that the unscented Kalman filter shows a relatively better performance than the extended Kalman filter by comparing an efficiency to the model which has a non-linearity.

  • This research supposed when a fictitious KSIV-I space launch vehicle launches from NARO space center. This compared and analyzed the results from real-time trajectory estimation using the Extended Kalman Filter and the Unscented Kalman Filter. A virtual trajectory and observation data are generated for the fictitious KSLV-I and three measurement radars. The performances of both Otters are compared for several simulations with small initial errors, large initial errors, 20Hz and 10Hz data rate. The results show that the Unscented Kalman Filter yields faster convergence and more accurate than the Extended Kalman Filter for the cases with larger initial error and slower data rate conditions.

  • In order to implement good control of the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM), the exact speed and rotor position information is needed.Recently, many studies have performed about sensorless speed control of the PMSM. This paper proposed sensorless speed controls of PMSM by using the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF).The UKF is designed to eliminate the noise and get to the accuracy value and deals with the estimation of the speed and the rotor position of PMSM. Simulation and experiment have been performed for the verification of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper study about an unscented Kalman filter with a variety type of unscented transformation to estimate state values for speed control without position sensor of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor. The principles of an unscented transformation and unscented Kalman filter are examined and their application is explained. Generally the mapping process can be divided into two type, such as a basic and a general form according to a scaling parameter. And computation time, the number of samples, and weights about samples are different from each other. But, there is no little information on the scaling parameter value how this value influences the system performance. Simulation and experimental results show the validity of the designed unscented transformation performance with the various scaling parameter values for sensorless motor drive.

  • This paper proposes a parallel reduced-order square-root unscented Kalman filter for state estimation of a sensorless permanent-magnet synchronous motor. The appearance of an unscented Kalman filter is caused by the linearization process error between a real system and classical Kalman model. The unscented transformation can make a more accurate Kalman model. However, the complexity is its main drawback. This paper investigates the design and implementation of the proposed filter with Potter and Carlson square-root form. The proposed parallel reduced-order square-root unscented Kalman filter reduces memory and code size, and improves numerical computation. And the performance is not significantly different from the unscented Kalman filter. The experimentation is performed for the verification of the proposed filter.
