  • A new course keeping controller for RIB(Rigid Inflatable Boat)-type USV(Unmanned Surface Vehicle) is developed using pilot's steering pattern. A pilot's simple steering pattern is found out from various course change tests. It is used to course keeping algorithm, suitable for large course change more than 60 degrees. To validate the course keeping controller, sea trial tests are conducted. From sea trial test, new course keeping controller shows good performance with less overshoot, maximum roll angle less than $20^{\circ}$, which makes it possible that fast course changes without slip motion of USV.

  • This paper presents the analysis results obtained by the flight test of reconfiguration flight control system for an aircraft. The reconfiguration flight control system was designed by using control allocation scheme that automatically distributes the demanded control moments determined by control law to each actual control surface. In this paper, some control allocation algorithms for reconfiguration control of general aircraft with redundant control surfaces are summarized and their performance evaluation results through nonlinear simulation and Hardware-In-the-Loop-Simulation (HILS) test are shown. Also, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system adopted as a platform for the flight test of reconfiguration flight controller and the implementation procedure of reconfiguration flight controller into real-time UAV system were introduced. Finally, flight test results were analyzed.

  • A new robust sliding mode control with disturbance and state observers has been proposed to control the nozzle angle of a water-jet system for a Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV). As the water-jet system of a ship is subjected to direct disturbances owing to the exposure to the marine environment in water, it requires a robust control. A state observer and a disturbance observer are added to the water jet nozzle control system to achieve a robust control against disturbances. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a test bed is constructed by a propulsion system used in the popular USV. This proposed algorithm has been evaluated by comparing to the existing algorithm through experiments. The results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of the conventional PID or sliding mode controller when controlling the steering of the USV with disturbances.

  • The obstacles modeling is a fundamental and significant issue for path planning and automatic navigation of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV). In this study, we propose a novel obstacles modeling method based on high resolution satellite images. It involves two main steps: extraction of obstacle features and construction of convex hulls. To extract the obstacle features, a series of operations such as sea-land segmentation, obstacles details enhancement, and morphological transformations are applied. Furthermore, an efficient algorithm is proposed to mask the obstacles into convex hulls, which mainly includes the cluster analysis of obstacles area and the determination rules of edge points. Experimental results demonstrate that the models achieved by the proposed method and the manual have high similarity. As an application, the model is used to find the optimal path for USV. The study shows that the obstacles modeling method is feasible, and it can be applied to USV path planning.

  • UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are used widely for military purposes because they are more economical than general manned aircraft and satellites, and have easy access to the object. Recently, owing to the development of IT technology, UAV equipped with various sensors have been released, and their use is increasing in a wide range of fields, such as surveying, agriculture, meteorological observation, communication, broadcasting, and sports. An increasing number of studies and attempts have made use of it. On the other hand, existing research was related mostly to photogrammetry, but there has been a lack of analytical research on LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging). Therefore, this study examined the characteristics of a UAV LiDAR sensor for the application of a geospatial information field. In this study, the performance of commercialized LiDAR sensors, such as the acquisition speed and the number of echoes, was investigated, and data acquisition and analysis were conducted by selecting Surveyor Ultra and VX15 models with similar accuracy and data acquisition distances. As a result, a DSM of each study site was generated for each sensor, and the characteristics of data density, precision, and acquisition of ground data from vegetation areas were presented through comparison. In addition, the UAV LiDAR sensor showed an accuracy of 0.03m ~ 0.05m. Hence, it is necessary to select equipment considering the characteristics of data for effective use. In the future, the use of UAV LiDAR may be suggested if additional data can be obtained and analyzed for various areas, such as urban areas and forest areas.

Recently, drones have been used as a major means of attack drones in major wars around the world, and it seems likely that they will evolve into game changers in the future. In the major wars of the 21century, attack drones are used for precision fire-guided or self-destruct attacks, For the purpose of cognitive warfare, its territory is expanding not only to land and air, but also to sea and water. These attack drones will perform multi-domain operations, and for this purpose, the level of autonomy will be improved and High-Low Mix We will continue to develop by strengthening concept-based scalability. North Korea has also been making considerable efforts to operate attack drones for a long time, and activities such as third-country-level self-explosive drones, artificial intelligence-based clustered self-explosive drones, and self-destructive stealth unmanned semi-submersible are expected. In addition to North Korea's provocations and attacks, it is hoped that there will be a need for active follow-up research on our military's countermeasures and utilization plans.

  • Methods for measuring or estimating of ground shape by a laser range finder and a vision sensor(exteroceptive sensors) have critical weakness in terms that these methods need prior database built to distinguish acquired data as unique surface condition for driving. Also, ground information by exteroceptive sensors does not reflect the deflection of ground surface caused by the movement of UGVs. Thereby, UGVs have some difficulties regarding to finding optimal driving conditions for maximum maneuverability. Therefore, this paper proposes a method of recognizing exact and precise ground shape using Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU) as a proprioceptive sensor. In this paper, firstly this method recognizes attitude of a robot in real-time using IMU and compensates attitude data of a robot with angle errors through analysis of vehicle dynamics. This method is verified by outdoor driving experiments of a real mobile robot.

  • This paper describes the implementation of AUSV system for Sonar Image acquisition. The system be controlled by FF-PID algorithm for the thrusters using motion sensor and DGPS. As experimental results, the control performance is that the error distance from the destination positions are under 5m in total survey track of 1km, and the image deviation is under 12 pixel from the manned survey method, which the comparison with the total image quality is almost the same as the manned survey one. Thus the AUSV system is a new method of system can be utilized on the limited survey area as the surveyor should not be able to approach on sea surface.

  • This paper presents a new localization technique of an UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle) by matching ortho-edge images generated from a DSM (Digital Surface Map) which represents the 3D geometric information of an outdoor navigation environment and 3D range data which is obtained from a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor mounted at the UGV. Recent UGV localization techniques mostly try to combine positioning sensors such as GPS (Global Positioning System), IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), and LIDAR. Especially, ICP (Iterative Closest Point)-based geometric registration techniques have been developed for UGV localization. However, the ICP-based geometric registration techniques are subject to fail to register 3D range data between LIDAR and DSM because the sensing directions of the two data are too different. In this paper, we introduce and match ortho-edge images between two different sensor data, 3D LIDAR and DSM, for the localization of the UGV. Details of new techniques to generating and matching ortho-edge images between LIDAR and DSM are presented which are followed by experimental results from four different navigation paths. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to a conventional ICP-based technique.
