Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been applied to not only military missions like surveillance and reconnaissance but also commercial missions like meteorological observation, aerial photograph, communication relay, internet network build and disaster observation. Fuel cells make UAVs eco-friendly by using hydrogen. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) show low operation temperature, high efficiency, low noise and high energy density and those characterisitcs are well fitted with UAVs. Thus Fuel cell based UAVs have been actively developed in the world. Recently, fuel cell UAVs have started to develope for high altitude UAVs because target altitude of UAVs is expanded upto stratosphere altitude. Long endurance of UAVs is essential to improve effects of the missions. Improvement of UAV endurance time could be fulfilled by developing a hydrogen fuel storage system with high energy density and reducing the weight of UAVs. In this paper, research trend and analysis of fuel cell UAVs are introduced in terms of their altitude and endurance time and then the prospect of fuel cell UAVs are shown.

Intertidal zones, akin to tidal flats, are among the potential areas where underwater cultural heritage might be submerged. However, the shallow depths in these regions present challenges for conventional vessel-based survey methods. Moreover, during low tides, intertidal zones transform into tidal flats, limiting the efficiency of survey efforts due to restricted access and potential risks. As a result, proper underwater cultural heritage surveys encounter difficulties in these environments. In recent times, extensive research is underway to address these issues by investigating underwater cultural heritage surveys in intertidal zones, encompassing diverse fields, including equipment-based investigations. This study aimed to explore the feasibility of utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to conduct intertidal cultural heritage surveys, employing aerial photography and 3D mapping to create detailed orthoimages and 3D models. The study focused on assessing the potential application of these techniques for cultural heritage surveying within intertidal zones. Notably, the survey conducted in Jindo's Naesan-ri demonstrated high-resolution capabilities, enabling the distinction of actual pottery fragments mixed within gravel fields. Similarly, in the survey of Jindo's Byeokpa-hang, it was found that a wooden pillar structure existed in a section about 200m long. The integration of various sensors, including LiDAR, with UAVs allows for diverse investigation possibilities, including bathymetric measurements, and is expected to facilitate the acquisition of varied datasets for further research and assessment.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which were used for military purposes, are gradually expanding their application fields under the influence of electrification and digitalization. Starting from the field of aerial imaging and Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission, nowadays the possibility of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), which transports passengers and cargo with drones, is widely under discussion. In order to occupy the rapidly growing global unmanned aerial vehicle market in advance, it is necessary to secure core technologies and develop key UAVs components based on the new technologies. In the navigation field, it is necessary to secure a precise position with guaranteed reliability and continuity, unrelated to the operating environments. The reliability and continuity should be secured in the algorithm level and in the H/W component levels also. In order to achieve this technical goal, the Ministry of Science and ICT has launched the 'Unmanned Vehicle Core Technology Research and Development Program' in 2019 to support the R&D on the unmanned vehicle technologies. In this paper, authors introduce the unmanned vehicle core technology research and development program to the related researchers. The authors summarize the backgrounds of the program and show the technological tasks and objectives on the sub-programs in the unmanned vehicle navigation program. We present the program schedules especially focused on the test and evaluation of the developed technologies and components.

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) are increasingly used in civilian areas as well as in military areas due to the technological advancement of UAVs. In response to the increasing demand in UAVs, many studies are under way to integrate the airspace between manned aircraft and UAV. The development of flight test can secure the performance and flight characteristics of the designed aircraft. And the capability of research and development can be expanded through the accumulation of technical data. It is also essential to verify the correct performance and characteristics of development aircraft themselves. In this paper, we propose development flight test procedures and items for civilian UAVs.

Given that the utilization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) is recently increased, a variety of UAV control methods are being applied. In general, it has been used a lot to directly control a UAV via manipulator. However, tangible user interface is required to control UAVs accurately. This paper proposes a method for controlling an UAV based on multiple Myos. The UAV is connected to a ground control station and then controlled by Myos. Intuitive control is possible by controlling the UAV using tangible user interface.

Task assignments of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are examined. The phrase "task assignment" comprises the decision making procedures of a UAV group. In this study, an on-line decentralized task assignment algorithm is proposed for an autonomous UAV group. The proposed method is divided into two stages: an order optimization stage and a communications and negotiation stage. A genetic algorithm and negotiation strategy based on one-to-one communication is adopted for each stage. Through the proposed algorithm, decentralized task assignments can be applied to dynamic environments in which sensing range and communication are limited. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by performing numerical simulations.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using communications, sensors, and navigation equipment will play a key role in future warfare. Currently, UAVs are monitored to prevent misfire and accidents, and the conventional method adopted uses wires for data transmission and power supply. The repeated connection and disconnection of cables increases maintenance time and harms the connector. For convenience and stability, a wireless power transfer system to power UAVs is needed. Unlike other wireless power transfer (WPT) applications, the size of the receiving coils must be small, so that the WPT systems can be embedded inside space-limited UAVs. The small size reduces the coupling coefficient and transfer efficiency between the transmitting and the receiving coils. In this study, we propose a toroidal-shaped coil for a WPT system for UAVs with high coupling coefficient with minimum space requirements. For validation, conventional coils and the proposed toroidal-shaped coil were used and their coupling coefficient and power transfer efficiency were compared using simulated and measured results. The simulated and measured results were strongly correlated, confirming that the proposed WPT system significantly improved efficiency with negligible change in the space requirement.
With the advances of high-performance, lightweight hardware components and control software, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have expanded in terms of use, not only for military applications but also for civilian applications. To complete their task at a remote location, UAVs are generally equipped with a camera, and various sensors and types of hardware devices can be attached according to the particular task. When UAVs capture video images and transmit them into the user's interface, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies as a user interface may have advantages in controlling the UAV. In this paper, we review AR and VR applications for UAVs and discuss their future directions.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) network are a very vibrant research area nowadays. They have many military and civil applications. Limited bandwidth, the high mobility and secure communication of micro UAVs represent their three main problems. In this paper, we try to address these problems by means of secure clustering, and a security clustering algorithm based on integrated trust value for UAVs network is proposed. First, an improved the k-means++ algorithm is presented to determine the optimal number of clusters by the network bandwidth parameter, which ensures the optimal use of network bandwidth. Second, we considered variables representing the link expiration time to improve node clustering, and used the integrated trust value to rapidly detect malicious nodes and establish a head list. Node clustering reduce impact of high mobility and head list enhance the security of clustering algorithm. Finally, combined the remaining energy ratio, relative mobility, and the relative degrees of the nodes to select the best cluster head. The results of a simulation showed that the proposed clustering algorithm incurred a smaller computational load and higher network security.
Currently, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is spreading from recreational purposes to the public- and commercial-use product areas. Various efforts are being made worldwide to ensure the safety of UAVs and expand their service applications and convenience, because autonomous flights are becoming increasingly popular. In order for a UAV to perform autonomous flight and mission without operator assistance, environmental perception technology, path planning technology, and flight control technology are needed. In this article, we present recent trends in these technologies.
