In this study, an automatic system for improving the working environment and increasing production efficiency of a laver aquaculture industry in Korea was developed by combining a hydraulic control system and a load cell in a current landing work of the laver. The improved gathering laver system allowed the automatic gathering process of the laver in the sea with the hydraulic control system connected to a cutting machine of the laver on the operating ship, which has been used for gathering the laver semi-automatically in a form of the traditional farming method. The transporting process of the laver from an operating ship to the land was improved as follows. A frame installed on the operating ship and the bag nets were designed and made to hold about 1,000 kg of the laver inside. The bag nets contain the laver on the improved operating ship were tied in knots and hooked on a crane using a load cell. The weight is measured immediately by lifting the bag nets through the load cell system. Weight information is communicated to the fishermen and successful bidders through the application. The advantages of the improved system can help fishermen to fish by improving their working environment and increasing production efficiency. The field survey to improve the landing operation of the laver aquaculture was conducted in Gangjin, Goheung, Shinan, Wando, Jindo, and Haenam in South Jeonnam Province. A total of 10 sites including Gunsan in Jeonbuk Province, Daebu Island in Ansan City, Jebu Island in Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, and Seocheon in Chungnam Province were searched to collect data. Prototypes of the system were tested at the auction house of laver located in Goheung, where laver collection using hydraulic control and landing using road cell could be improved.
A three dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis is used to study the influence of various design decisions for tieback walls. The numerical model simulates the soldier piles and the tendon bonded length of the anchors with beam elements, the unbonded tendon with a spring element, the wood lagging with the shell elements, and the soil with solid 3D nonlinear elements. The soil model used is a modified hyperbolic model with unloading hysteresis. The complete sequence of construction is simulated including the excavation, and the placement and stressing of the anchors. The numerical model is calibrated against a full scale instrumented tieback wall at the National Geotechnical Experimentation Site (NGES) on the Riverside Campus of Texas A&M University. Then a parametric study is conducted. The results give information on the influence of the following factors on the wall behavior : location of the first anchor, length of the tendon unbonded zone, magnitude of the anchor forces, embedment of the soldier piles, stiffness of the wood lagging, and of the piles. The implications in design are discussed.

In this study, the propagation behaviour and the closure phenomena of physically small surface cracks were investigated by the techinque of the Kikukawa-unloading elastic compliance method using a back face strain gage. The surface cracks initiated and propagated from notched specimens under constant amplitude bending load. The crack shape (aspect ratio) with approximately semi-circular at the early stage was changed to semi-elliptical as the cracks grew larger. The crack depth (a) could be expressed uniquenly by the crack length (c). The dependence of the crack propagation rate on the stress ratio R was strongly related in the lower ${\Delta}K$ range. The deceleration of the surface crack propagation rate was prominent in lower R during the crack length was small. When the propagation rate was rearranged with the effective stress intensity factor range ${\Delta}$K_{eff} the dependence of the crack propagation rate on the stress ratio R was found to be diminshed. These were caused by the crack closure phenomena that was most prominent at the lower propagation rate. The mechanism of crack closure phenomena was dominated by the plasticity-induced mechanism.

The acoustic emission(AE) behavior of reinforced concrete slab under flexural loading was investigated to assess the integrity. This study was aimed at identifying the characteristics of AE response associated with damage development. By applying cyclic loading in various load steps, it was able to differentiate each AE source such as distributed micro crack initiation, friction, flexural crack and localized diagonal tension crack. The secondary peak and the change of AE hit rate gave valuable criteria fur assessment. From the analysis of the felicity ratio, furthermore, it was shown that this values can be used for evaluating the degree of concrete damage. Based on the experimental results, this approach for practical AE application may provide a promising method for estimating the level of damage and distress in concrete structures.
This paper proposes the hybrid heuristic method to apply the opportunity time to solve the vehicle routing and scheduling problem with time constraints(VRSPTW). The opportunity time indicates the idle time which remains after the vehicle performs the unloading service required by each customer's node. In this proposed heuristic, we add the constraints to VRSPTW model for the opportunity time. We also obtain the initial solution by applying the cost evaluation function to the insertion strategy considering the opportunity time. In addition, we improve the former result by applying the opportunity time to the tabu search strategy by swapping the customer's node. Finally, we suggest the construction strategies of initial routing which can efficiently acquire the nearest optimal solution from various types of data in terms of geographical condition, scheduling horizon and vehicle capacity. Our experiment show that our heuristic can get the nearest optimal solution more efficiently than the Solomon's I1 heuristic.
The drive pulley, which is employed for loading and unloading raw materials in a steel mill, is usually manufactured by use of various welding processes. In this study the weldment in the pulley, in which TIG and $CO_2$ welding processes are used, has been analyzed from view point of fracture mechanics. Fracture toughness tests have been performed according to ASTM E813. A servo-hydraulic testing machine (10kN) has been employed. Also the crack propagation tests (Mode I) have been performed with compact tension specimen in compliance with ASTM E647. To predict the critical crack size in the weldment, finite element stress analysis for the drive pulley under real operating conditions have been performed. In addition, the residual stresses at the weldment and in heat-affected zone have been obtained by hole drilling method. The planar critical crack size have been predicted for the drive pulley by considering the stress analysis results and the residual stresses due to welding process. For the drive pulley considered in this study, it has been concluded that the most important factor in determining the critical crack size is the welding residual stress in the transverse direction. Also the effect of stress concentration at the root of the weldment have been noticeable. For the planar crack, the fatigue crack growth life from an initial crack size of 2mm to the critical crack size obtained as in the above have been predicted. The predicted lives were between 55, 900 and 72, 000 cycles depending on the shape of the elliptical crack. The predicted lives were in fairly good agreement for the drive pulley considered in this study.

In this paper, we established a simulation model for transport vehicle that carries the container transportation between apron and yard block on automated container terminal with a perpendicular yard layout. Usually, the efficiency of container terminal is evaluated by productivity of container cranes at apron, and though there are enough support of transport vehicles and yard cranes, can improve the productivity of container cranes. Especially, transport vehicle is very important factor in productivity of container cranes and has variable work productivity according to loading and unloading situation of container cranes. Therefore, a method that can estimate work productivity of transport vehicle efficiently is required. We analyzed work productivity of transport vehicle using simulation model that has state transition of transport vehicle. We performed various simulation experiment and analyzed work productivity of transport vehicle and calculated the required number of transport vehicle by container crane additionally.
In this paper, as an anti-sway control strategy of container cranes, we investigate a variable structure control in which the moving load follows a given trajectory, whereas both the trolley and hoist controllers achieve their positioning problems. It is crucial, in an automated container terminal, that collisions should be avoided during the transference of containers from one place to another. It is also necessary, in the case of a quay crane, to select suitable loading and unloading trajectories of containers, so that possible collisions with surrounding obstacles are avoided. After a brief introduction of the mathematical model, a robust control scheme (i.e., a second-order sliding mode control that guarantees a fast and precise transference and a suppression of the resulted swing) is presented. Despite model uncertainties and unmodeled actuators dynamics, the swing suppression from the given trajectory is obtained by constraining the system motion on suitable sliding surfaces, which include both the desired path and the swing angle. The proposed controller has been tested with a laboratory-size pilot crane. Experimental results are provided.
In order to analyze the deformational behavior accurately, the in-situ testing technique which provides the reliable deformational characteristics at whole strain ranges, needs to be developed. The pressuremeter is a unique method for assessing directly the in-situ shear modulus of soils with strain amplitude. This paper introduces a new alternative, the cavity strain measuring system in pressuremeter designed for whole strain ranges of $10^{-5}$%∼20%. Not only in the synthetic calibration chamber but also in the field, the pressuremeter tests were performed to determine the compliance of the new developed pressuremeter system. The variation in shear modulus with strain amplitude above $5\times 10^{-2}$% was reliably determined by the developed pressuremeter. It is concluded that the major cause of error in small cavity strain measuring is not from the cavity strain measuring system but from the friction between measuring arm and membrane during unloading-reloading loops.
Installing the temporary bridge after excavating the railway requires installing movable cross beam, but as it doesn't requires isolating the catenary or cutting the rail, it's applicable to double-track with frequent operation. In this study, a displacement meter was placed on temporary bridge to monitor the displacement pattern in curve section (R400) completed using temporary bridge method, and wheel load, lateral pressure and derailment coefficient were measured to evaluate the load imposed on track and the stability in curve section (R400) for quantitative evaluation of training running safety. As a result of the measurement, when trains passing over a temporary bridge, the maximum value of Wheel load and Lateral Force is analyzed as the 51% and 81% of standard level according to foreign country's performance tests, There is no trouble with stability analysis in Wheel load and Lateral Force occurring. Additionally, Wheel load and Lateral Force considered as the safety standard are tested 49% of limiting value regardless of trains, which the norm value quite well, there is no problem with train running.
