Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medicine Students with Focus on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory (한의대생의 심리 특성 연구 - 벡 우울증 척도, 한국판 미네소타 다면적 인성 검사-2를 중심으로)

  • Objectives The purpose of this research is to study the Psychological Characteristics of Korean Medical Students focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory.Methods The survey was conducted on 101 Korean Medicine Students to investigate psychological characteristics focusing on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 and the Beck Depression Inventory.Results 29.7% of students scored more than 10 points in the Beck Depression Inventory. Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pd, Si, RC4, WRK, FAM, Mt and MDS scales as compared to the students without depression tendencies (p<.05). Students with depression according to the Beck Depression Inventory showed the higher scores in the Pt, RC7, ANX, A and PK scales as compared to the students without depressive tendencies (p<.05).Conclusions Students with depressive tendencies seem to have more difficulty adjusting socially compared to students without depressive tendencies. In addition, students with depressive tendencies will likely have other psychological problems compared to the students without depressive tendencies.

  • This paper describes the restructuring of power electronics and electric drives courses, sponsored by NSF, EPRI, NASA and the local utilities, which has significantly increased student enthusiasm, and the undergraduate enrollment in these courses at the University of Minnesota has tripled since 1997. The developed leaching approaches have been the subject of NSF-sponsored faculty workshops in 1994, 1997, 1998,2002, and 2003. In power electronics, the power-pole based building-block approach unifies analysis and control aspects of all converters. PSpice-based simulations aid in analysis and design, supported by a hardware laboratory. For electric drives, an integrative approach addressing all three aspects of electric drives - machines, power converters and control is being. used. Space vectors, introduced on a physical basis rather than purely mathematical ions, are used fur analysis of ac machines. This leads to a more physical understanding of machine operation and also makes it easier to address control aspects in the advanced course. The lecture materials are supported by a DSP-based laboratory.

  • Alternations in usage of polyadenylation sites during transcription termination yield transcript isoforms from a gene. Recent findings of transcriptome-wide alternative polyadenylation (APA) as a molecular response to changes in biology position APA not only as a molecular event of early transcriptional termination but also as a cellular regulatory step affecting various biological pathways. With the development of high-throughput profiling technologies at a single nucleotide level and their applications targeted to the 3'-end of mRNAs, dynamics in the landscape of mRNA 3'-end is measureable at a global scale. In this review, methods and technologies that have been adopted to study APA events are discussed. In addition, various bioinformatics algorithms for APA isoform analysis using publicly available RNA-seq datasets are introduced.

  • We have developed new algorithms for solution of the three-dimensional, time-dependent Navier-Stokes equations that utilize massively parallel supercomputing implemented on the Connection Machine 5. Here, we apply these techniques to analyze he fluid flows that occur during the growth of the tow nonlinear optical crystals-potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP), which is producted in a novel rapid growth system under development by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Laser Division, and Potassium titanyl phosphate(KTP), which is grown from a high-temperature aqueous solution.

Electrical Stress in High Permittivity TiO2 Gate Dielectric MOSFETs

  • Suitable replacement materials for ultrathin SiO2 in deeply scaled MOSFETs such as lattice polarizable films, which have much higherpermittivities than SiO2, have bandgaps of only 3.0 to 4.0 eV. Due to these small bandgaps, the reliability of these films as a gate insulator is a serious concern. Ramped voltage, time dependent dielectric breakdown, and hot carrier effect measurements were done on 190 layers of TiO2 which were deposited through the metal-organic chemical vapor deposition of titanium tetrakis-isopropoxide (TTIP). Measurements of the high and low frequency capacitance indicate that virtually no interface state are created during constant current injection stress. The increase in leakage upon electrical stress suggests that uncharged, near-interface states may be created in the TiO2 film near the SiO2 interfacial layer that allow a tunneling current component at low bias.

  • This study explicitly identifies the main values that rural welfare recipients reveal when they talk about their experiences with welfare and welfare reform. An inductive analysis of values is conducted using interview data from 49 current and former recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) residing in the states of Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, and New York. Seven main values that emerge from the data are self-esteem, autonomy, uniqueness, advancement, security, independence, and fairness. A conceptual diagram of these values is developed to illustrate how these values are related

  • This article focuses on the psychometric stability of the technology acceptance model (TAM) by Davis [8] when applied to laptop usage in the educational settings. Using a survey of 297 users, this research provides evidence that the TAM provides a model for a valid and reliable measure to use among students in assessing their perceptions of laptop usage. Given this evidence, those involved with implementation and training in laptop environment can confidently apply the instrument.

Parental Emotion Socialization in Military Families

  • Reintegration after military deployment is a significant family stressor. Guided by Eisenberg's heuristic model of socialization of emotions, the present study examined the relationships between parental emotion socialization, children's emotionality and children's internalizing symptoms using a military sample. It was also investigated whether gender of parents and children impacted parental emotion socialization. Questionnaires were gathered from 248 families with a 4-12 year old child (M = 7.78) in which a parent had been deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Children's emotionality was positively correlated with children's internalizing symptoms and non-supportive parental emotion socialization. Independent-t-tests and two-way ANOVAs showed that mothers reported more supportive reactions towards children's negative emotions than fathers. Father reports of expressive encouragement were positively associated with child reports of anxiety and depression. Child gender did not influence how parents responded to negative emotions. Implications and future directions were discussed.

Overstress-Free 4 × VDD Switch in a Generic Logic Process Supporting High and Low Voltage Modes

  • A four-times-VDD switch that supports high and low voltage mode operations is demonstrated in a generic 65 nm logic process. The proposed switch shows the robust operation for supply voltages ranging from VDD to $4{\times}VDD$. A cascaded voltage switch and a voltage doubler based charge pump generate the intermediate supply voltage levels required for the proposed high voltage switch. All the high voltage circuits developed in this work can be implemented using standard logic transistors without being subject to any voltage overstress.
