Galectin-3 is known as an animal ${\beta}$-galactoside-binding lectin charicterized with S-type carbohydrate recognition domain. It plays a role in growth, adherence and movement of cells. It is, also, related to the cell transformation and metastasis of tumor cells. In this study, we have expressed and purified recombinant human galectin-3 (rHgalectin-3) using E coli system and asialofetuin affinity chromatography for the future development of monoclonal antibody to Hgalectin-3, which is suggested as the tumor marker for the gastric and thyroid gland cancers. Expressed protein was confirmed as the Hgalectin-3 by immunoblot with cross-reactive murine monoclonal antibody. Lectin activity and specificity of purified protein were, also, confirmed by the competitive inhibition with galectin-3 specific carbohydrate, lactose. Like physiological galectin-3, lectin activity of the molecule was not changed in nonreduced condition. Dimer formation, furthermore, was observed at high concentration of the protein even in the reduced condition, which is well known in physiological galectin-3. These results showed purified rHgalectin-3 has the same activity and molecular nature compared to the physiological galectin-3.

A system for the recognition of machine printed Arabic script is proposed. The Arabic script is shared by three languages i.e., Arabic, Urdu and Farsi. The three languages have a descent amount of vocabulary in common, thus compounding the problems for identification. Therefore, in an ideal scenario not only the script has to be differentiated from other scripts but also the language of the script has to be recognized. The recognition process involves the segregation of Arabic scripted documents from Latin, Han and other scripted documents using horizontal and vertical projection profiles, and the identification of the language. Identification mainly involves extracting connected components, which are subjected to Principle Component Analysis (PCA) transformation for extracting uncorrelated features. Later the traditional K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) algorithm is used for recognition. Experiments were carried out by varying the number of principal components and connected components to be extracted per document to find a combination of both that would give the optimal accuracy. An accuracy of 100% is achieved for connected components >=18 and Principal components equals to 15. This proposed system would play a vital role in automatic archiving of multilingual documents and the selection of the appropriate Arabic script in multi lingual Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems.
A study on reaction kinetics for a PTMG/TDI prepolymer with 2,2'-dichloro-4,4'-methylenedianiline (MOCA), of which formulations may be generally used for fabricating high performance polyurethane elastomers, was peformed using non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). A number of thermograms were obtained at several constant heating rates, and analysed using Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) isoconversional method for activation energy, $E_a$ and extended-Avrami equation for reaction order, n. Urea formation reaction of the present system was observed to occur through the simple exothermic reaction process in the temperature range of $100{\sim}130^{\circ}C$ for the heating rate of $3{\sim}7^{\circ}C/min$. and could be well-fitted with generalized sigmoid function. Though activation energy was nearly constant as $53.0{\pm}0.5kJ/mol$, it tended to increase a little at initial stage, but it decreases at later stage by the transformation into diffusion-controlled reaction due to the increased viscosity. Reaction order was evaluated as about 2.8, which was somewhat higher than the generally well-known $2^{nd}$ order values for the various urea reactions. Both the reaction order and reaction rate explicitly increased with temperature, which was considered as the indication of occurring the side reactions such as allophanate or biuret formation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate Chinese women’s clothing purchase behavior and satisfaction for clothing made in Korea. Data was collected from Chinese women who had made purchases of Koreanmanufactured clothing using the Chinese online shopping mall named ‘TaoBao’. In total, the responses of 439 questionnaires were tabulated and analyzed using the SPSS program 12.0. Results were as follows: 1) Shopping motivation was classified based on two factors: transformation motivation and information motivation. Most Chinese women who purchased clothing made in Korea did so because of information motivation. Results showed that the place of manufacturing origin(i..e Korea) did not negatively impact Korean clothing products at this online shopping mall. 2) Purchase satisfaction was influenced by three factors: quality satisfaction, wearing/management satisfaction, and design satisfaction. Most Chinese women were satisfied with clothing made in Korea in terms of the design factor. 3) There were correlations among Chinese women’s shopping motivation and purchase satisfaction for clothing made in Korea.

As long as the information systems are spread out, various efforts are being attempted to get the effective results by the system. As a result, a new management strategy has been appeared, referred to as "collaboration", and it is necessary to use a right methodology for modeling collaborative processes accordingly. Even though many modeling methodologies such as IDEF3, Petri-Nets, UML, and ARIS have been widely used for modeling processes, they are inadequate for clearly representing collaborative processes. Some researchers, therefore, have suggested new modeling methodologies for describing collaborative processes including CPM (collaborative process modeling). In this paper, we introduce an extended version of CPM method (i.e., exCPM) as a tool for modeling collaborative works after analyzing advantages and disadvantages of aforementioned methodologies. One of distinct characteristics of exCPM is that model verification is possible by transforming the exCPM models into Petri-Nets models. We also demonstrate transformation of an exCPM model in this paper with case studies for model verification.
Contamination of explosive compounds in the soils of military shooting range may pose risks to human and ecosystems. As shooting ranges are located at remote places, active remediation processes with hardwares and equipments are less practical to implement than natural solutions such as bioremediaton. In this study, a series of experiments was conducted to select a suitable carbon source and to optimize dosing rate for the enhanced bioremediation of explosive compounds in surface soils and sediments of shooting ranges with indigenous microorganisms activated by external carbon source. Treatability study using slurry phase reactors showed that the presence of indigenous microbial community capable of explosive compounds degradation in the shooting range soils, and starch was a more effective carbon source than glucose and acetic acid in the removal of TNT. However, at higher starch/soil ratio, i.e., 2.0, the acute toxicity of the liquid phase increased possibly due to transformation products of TNT. RDX degradation by indigenous microorganisms was also stimulated by the addition of starch but the acute toxicity of the liquid phase decreased with the increase of starch/soil ratio. Taken together, the optimum range of starch/soil ratio for the degradation of explosive compounds without significant increase in acute toxicity was found to be 0.2 of starch/soil.

The COVID-19 pandemic has a great impact in various ways. It changes the normal routine of lives and businesses. Many businesses encounter tremendous financial pressure, some of them lay off workers or choose to close down. According to the statistics, e-commerce experiences a four-fold growth in sales during the pandemic period. There is an urgency for firms to digitalize their businesses to respond to the change in the landscape of purchasing patterns of consumers. The purpose of this study is to understand the success of a few popular apparel brands in digital businesses. This is a qualitative research, and secondary data is collected for the analysis. The findings reveal that all of them engage in omni-channel methods in digitizing their businesses while utilizing other forms of technologies in their product and operational management. All selected firms agree with the importance of digital business, and omni-channel retailing is their choice. In these unprecedented times, the sustainable success of the apparel firms in digital businesses requires a flexible and innovative approach and a commitment to achieving operational excellence. Continuous renewal and digital transformation are needed so that these companies have the capabilities to adapt to changes and reap the benefits of a satisfactory organizational performance.
The significance of hydrogen economy and production technology is steadily increasing. This research reviewed strategies for utilizing hydrogen production technology by combining a multi-layer model, strategic niche management, and the need factor for Hoship. The model was validated as a strategy considering hydrogen production technology and the transformation of the energy system. Using this, a new business model for hydrogen production technology was created, finding a strategic niche and sophisticating the technology. It also proposed ways to unlock the potential of hydrogen production technology and improve its efficiency. This work contributes to the commercialization of hydrogen production technology and its role in sustainable energy conversion. It proposes a new and effective approach for utilizing hydrogen production technology, going beyond its limitations to suggest a more efficient method. It is hoped that these results will be helpful to researchers in hydrogen energy, and serve as a reference for establishing ways to utilize hydrogen production technology.
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of female death. Viral oncoproteins E6 and E7 are selectively retained and expressed in carcinoma cells infected with HPV (Human papillomavirus) type 16. The HPV is cooperated in immotalization and transformation of primary keratinocyte. E6 and E7 oncoproteins interfere the functions of tumor suppressor proteins p53 and retinoblasoma protein (pRb), respectively. Among a lots of natural products, Artemisia scoparia Waldstein et Kitamura has inhibitory effects on the binding between E6 oncoprotein and tumor suppressor p53, or the binding between E6 and E6 associated protein (E6AP), an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase. HPV oncoprotein inhibitors from Artemisia scoparia W. were isolated by solvent partition and column chromatography (Silica gel, RP-18) and the inhibitory compounds were finally purified by HPLC using an ELISA screening system based on the binding between E6 and E6AP. The aim of this study is to identify the structure of inhibitory compounds and to investigate whether these compounds have inhibitory effects on the functions of E6 oncoprotein. We investigated whether 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (DCQA) extracted from Artemisia scoparia W. Could inhibit the function of E6 oncoprutein. DCQA inhibited the in vitro binding of E6 and E6AP which are essential for the binding and degradation of the tumor suppressor p53 and also inhibited the proliferation of human cervical cancer cell lines (SiHa and CaSKi) in a dose response manner. These results suggest that DCQA inhibited the function of E6 oncoprotein, suggesting that it can be used as a potential drug for the treatment of cervical cancers infected with HPV.
Growth rates, photosystem II photosynthesis, and the levels of chlorophyll $\alpha$ and secondary metabolites of Chlorella ovalis were estimated to determine if they were enhanced by the addition of swine urine (BM) or cow compost water (EP) that had been fermented by soil bacteria to deep seawater (DSW) in an attempt to develop media that enabled batch mass culture at lower costs. Growth of C. ovalis in f/2, f/2-EDTA+BM60%, DSW+BM30%, and DSW+EP60% was enhanced and maintained in the log phase of growth for 16 days. The cell densities of C. ovalis in DSW+EP60% ($4.1{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml) were higher than those of f/2 ($2.9{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml), f/2-E+BM60% ($3.7{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml), and DSW+BM30% ($2.7{\times}10^6$ Cells/ml). The growth rate was also more favorable for C. ovalis cultured in DSW+EP60% ($0.15\;day^{-1}$) than that of C. ovalis cultured in the control medium (f/2) ($0.12\;day^{-1}$). Furthermore, the chlorophyll a concentration of C. ovalis cultured in DSW+EP60% (4.56 mg/l) was more than 2-fold greater than that of C. ovalis cultured in f/2 (2.35 mg/l). Moreover, the maximal quantum yields of photo system II at 470 nm (Fv/Fm) were significantly higher in organisms cultured at f/2-E+BM60% (0.53) and DSW+EP60% (0.52) than in the other treatment groups. Finally, Fourier transformation infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy revealed that C. ovalis grown in DSW+EP60% had more typical peaks and various biochemical pool shifts than those grown in other types of media. Taken together, the results of this study indicate that the use of DSW+EP60% to culture C. ovalis can reduce maintenance expenses and promote higher yields.
