자료포락분석을 이용한 지역대학의 효율성분석 (Evaluating the Operational Efficiencies of Local Universities Using DEA Approach)

  • 자료포락분석(data envelopment analysis)은 여러 종류의 투입요소와 산출요소를 이용하여 의사결정단위(decision making unit)들 간의 상대적 효율성을 평가하기 위해 많이 사용되는 기법이다. 본 연구에서는 자료포락분석을 이용하여 지방대학들의 연구 및 교육분야에 대한 효율성을 분석한다. 먼저, 우리나라 국 공립 대학들의 효율성에 대해 살펴보고, 지역거점대학(regional flagship national universities)과 비거점(non-flagship)대학 간의 효율성이 통계적으로 유의한지 여부를 탐색한다.

Universities in India's National System of Innovation: An Overview

  • The status and functioning of Indian universities is explored in the Indian context from an NSI perspective. Whilst NSI is the main guiding post, the very social and economic context of Indian situation reflect the theoretical underpinning of this paper. The First part serves as a background to knowledge institutions and university sector in India. Basically, it identifies the main actors and agencies of India's NSI, namely, public research system comprising national laboratories, main science and technology agencies and councils and the university system. Given the focus of the paper on Indian universities in a macro historical perspective, the Second part is devoted to trace the growth and structure of university sector in terms of three phases, namely, 1940s to 1980; 1980 to 1990; and the era of liberalization after 1991. The Third part of the paper is devoted to knowledge production and knowledge diffusion. There are some important findings coming out of the quantitative data. It is argued that Indian production of doctorates is falling behind countries like China. Further, Indian universities are yet to achieve Humboltian goal. Finally, the paper has a concluding section which concerns with the current and future challenges facing Indian universities and their role in India's NIS.

Roles of the Faculty and Librarian in the Collaborative Relationships at Vietnamese Universities: A Qualitative Methodology

  • This article is a part of a doctoral research project on developing the faculty-librarian collaboration model to support learning and research at Vietnamese universities. The findings of this study have crucial significance in drawing a broader view of the importance of faculty-librarian collaboration and the roles of such collaborators at Vietnamese universities. Qualitative methodology was used to formulate related topics and achieve these research objectives. Semi-structured interviews were carried out at four universities in Vietnam with three key informants, including the faculty, librarian, and administrators (dean/vice dean of faculty, director/deputy director of the library). From March to April 2019, researchers conducted 29 interviews with three participant groups. The striking results of this research showed that the faculty and librarians realized the significance of a collaborative relationship and expect that Vietnamese universities will design and deploy a model to boost the effectiveness of this collaboration. Besides this, the study found that the collaborators play certain important roles within the collaborative relationship, for instance, that of reference, coordinator, special lecturer, cooperator, and information user.

대학의 재정건전성과 외국인 유학생 (College Regulation and International Students)

  • 최근 서울 소재 사립대학들을 중심으로 외국인 유학생의 비중이 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 본 논문은 정원 및 등록금 규제 하에 대학의 재정건전성이 악화된 점이 이러한 현상의 한 가지 원인이라는 가설을 제기하고 그 타당성을 이론 및 실증적으로 분석한다. 이를 위해 대학의 학생선발 모형을 구성하고 대학의 재정건전성 악화가 외국인 유학생의 증가를 초래할 수 있음을 이론적으로 논의한다. 또한 2008~2019년 중 전국의 149개 대학의 학생 및 재정 정보를 연도별로 연결한 패널 자료를 이용하여 서울 소재 사립대학들의 경우 대학 재정의 악화가 외국인 유학생의 증가에 영향을 미쳤음을 실증적으로 검증한다.

플립러닝과 디자인씽킹을 적용한 건축공학종합설계 교육과정 개발 (Development of Capstone Design Curriculum in Architectural Engineering that Applies Flipped Learning and Design Thinking)

  • In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a new curriculum that breaks away from the existing education programs is needed to cultivate men of talent for this new industrial era. In this regard, this study aimed to develop innovative curriculums that can be applied to the capstone design of architectural engineering at universities in Korea. To this end, it analyzed the operational status of the capstone design curriculum of domestic universities that operate engineering certification education programs. In addition, it examined educational innovation cases of advanced universities at home and abroad, and analyzed other studies related to educational renovation. Based on the analysis results, it developed the capstone design curriculum of architectural engineering that can be applied to domestic universities. The curriculum was developed into two contents: operating method and syllabus. The method which has been commonly applied to domestic universities was adopted as the operating method. The syllabus was developed by applying flipped learning and design thinking theory, which has widely been dealt with in advanced universities and recent studies. In addition, the curriculum was developed in the form of a prototype to meet the conditions of each university for its efficient utilization.

Conformance of Accounting Education in Saudi Arabia Universities to the International Accounting Education Standards: An Exploratory Study

  • The goal of this research is to see how closely accounting programs in Saudi Arabian colleges comply with the International Accounting Education Standards (IESs). Further, it aims to assess the level of awareness and knowledge of IESs among accounting academics and to examine the possible explanatory factors for their variation. A structured questionnaire was sent to accounting faculty members at 37 Saudi universities. Out of 541 distributed questionnaires, a total of 102 usable responses were received from 26 universities. The findings show that accounting programs in Saudi universities are partially compliant with the guidelines of IESs and accounting academics in those universities are moderately aware of IESs. High variation in the level of academics' knowledge of IESs was detected and was significantly influenced by industry work experience, academic ranks, and professional qualification. The findings of this study suggest that Saudi Universities should work closely with the local and international accounting professional bodies, i.e. the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to improve accounting programs based on the guidelines of IESs to cope with the recent changes in the capital market of the kingdom and the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards.

Work Motive Distribution of Public Universities Lecturers in Hanoi

  • Purpose: The study aims to investigate the impact of factors affecting the work motive distribution of public universities lecturers in Hanoi. Research design, data and methodology: The questionnaire survey method is applied in this research to analyze the relationship between the variables and verify the hypothesis based on the collected 306 valid questionnaires. The partial least square method structural equation model (PLS-SEM) is used to carry out structural equation modeling to study the relationship between latent variables with reliable tools (SmartPLS 3.0 software). Results: The research results show that the intrisic motivation of the lecturers, the extrisic motivation of the lecturers and the job characteristics of the lecturers all have a positive impact on the motivation of public universities lecturers in Hanoi. In which, intrinsic motivation has the greatest influence on the work motive distribution of lecturers. In addition, the research results also prove that job characteristics affect the work motive distribution of lecturers. This is a new factor in the factors affecting the work motive distribution of public universities lecturers. Conclusion: Based on the research results, the authors propose some recommendations to increase the work motive distribution of public universities lecturers in Hanoi through improving the factors affecting their work motive distribution.

How Human Resource Agility Improves Distribution of Human Resource Performance at Private Universities in Indonesia

  • Purpose of this study is to examine how human resources agility affects the distribution of performance lecturers and education staff at private universities in Indonesia. Sample and data in this research is 389 respondents from 265.000 lecturers and academic workers in 3115 Private universities in Indonesia. Methodology in this study used the Structural Equation Model to analyze how human factors agility such as creativity, focus, effectivity, and efficiency have an influence on agility and performance. Results show that agility plays a very important role in improving the performance of lecturers and staff at private universities in Indonesia. It was found that human factors agility, where indicators such as creativity, focus, effectivity, and efficiency have an influence on the agility and performance of lecturers and staff at private universities in Indonesia. Conclusion from this research agility factors is important to improve the distribution of performance Lecturers and Staff's on Private University in Indonesia. Hopefully, in further research to other researcher add some other important variables such as the working environment and spirit of leadership in influencing agility as well as the performance of teachers and staff at Private Universities in Indonesia.

Awareness as Correlate of Undergraduate Students' Utilisation of Library Software in Universities in South-West, Nigeria

  • This study investigated the awareness and utilisation of library software by undergraduate students in universities in South-west Nigeria. The descriptive research design of the ex post facto was adopted using a sample of 1,527 selected from the total population of 239,048 undergraduate students in the universities. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The finding of the study revealed that the extent of utilisation of library software by undergraduate students was high. Also, the majority of undergraduate students utilised library software in the university libraries between two to three times a week. Similarly, the findings show that awareness had an influence on the utilisation of library software by undergraduate students in the universities (r = 0.563, N = 1333, P < 0.05). The study concluded that awareness influenced the utilisation of library software by undergraduate students in universities. The study, therefore, recommends that the importance of the awareness of library software should be emphasized in the library to enhance its utilisation by the students in the university libraries.

기업가형 대학의 사례 연구: 양손잡이 전략 관점으로 (Entrepreneurial Universities Case Study: Based on Ambidextrous Strategy)

  • 기업가형 대학에 대한 관심이 최근 국내외 주목을 받고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 전통적인 대학의 역할에서 기업가형 대학(entrepreneurial university)으로의 패러다임 전환에 대한 논의와 대학 조직의 양손잡이 전략 관점에서 영국의 옥스퍼드 대학, 미국의 스탠포드 대학 그리고 독일의 베를린 공과 대학의 사례 분석을 실시하였다. 대학은 급격하게 변화하는 불확실한 환경에 적응하고 생존하기 위해 과거 교육 및 연구 중심의 역할 뿐 아니라 시장 활동을 통한 학문적 자본주의(academic capitalism)에 대한 중요성이 대두됨에 따라 이에 관련된 연구들이 진행되어 왔다. 이와 관련하여 본 논문에서는 이전 연구에서 다루지 않았던 기존 대학들의 기업가형 대학으로의 전환의 배경 및 필요성과 기업가형 대학으로 변화에 성공하여 우수한 성과를 창출하고 있는 대학의 사례를 양손잡이 전략 관점에 적용하였다. 구체적으로 조직의 양손잡이 전략을 가능케 하는 선행요인으로 구조적 관점, 맥락적 관점 그리고 리더십 관점에서 살펴보았다. 이에 본 논문은 단순히 사례를 소개하는 것에 그치는 것이 아니라 해당 사례들을 통해 앞으로 국내 대학들이 기업가형 대학으로의 패러다임 변화에 적응하고 대학의 미래 방향 설정을 위한 방안 마련 등의 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이라 기대한다.
