  • Multiple solutions in natural convection of water with Pr=7 between two horizontal plates with small magnitude non-uniform temperature distribution in the upper plate is numerically investigated. The dimensionless temperature of upper plate is ${\theta}={\epsilon}sinkx$. Two upright cells are formed over one wave length in the conduction-dominated regime of small Rayleigh number. However, multicellular convection occurs above a critical Rayleigh number for small wave number. When k = 1.5, dual solutions are found and a transition of $6{\rightarrow}4$ eddy flow occurs with decrease of Rayleigh number. When k = 0.75, two, three, four and five multiple solutions are observed. Transitions of $14{\rightarrow}12$, $12{\rightarrow}10$, $10{\rightarrow}8$ and $6{\rightarrow}8$ eddy flow occur with decrease of Rayleigh number.

  • The present work aims to analyzed the transient thermoelastic stress analysis of a thin circular plate with uniform internal heat generation. Initially, the plate is characterized by a parabolic temperature distribution along the z-direction given by T = T0(r, z) and perfectly insulated at the ends z = 0 and z = h. For times t > 0, the surface r = a is subjected to convection heat transfer with convection coefficient hc and fluid temperature T. The integral transform method used to obtain the analytical solution for temperature, displacement, and thermal stresses. The associated thermoelastic field is analyzed by making use of the temperature and thermoelastic displacement potential function. Numerical results are carried out with the help of computational software PTC Mathcad Prime-3.1 and shown in figures.

  • Effects of uniform flow on a two-dimensional mesoscale horizontal convection were investigated by using the vorticity and thermodynamic equations. For thins purpose, We simulated properties of a thermal convection m a stably stratified Boussinesq flued caused by partial heating at the center of a lower boundary If we don't consider effects of the uniform flow, the convection takes the form of aidsymmetrlc with respect to the z-alds. But when uniform flow Is strong, velocity field and temperature field consist of a sin91e cell structure which spreads upstream side of the partial heating area. The flow pattern for strong uniform flows takes the form of positive temperatue near the ground and negative temperature perturbation soft over the partial heating area, and downward motion directly over the upwind portion of the partial heating area and upward motion on the downstream side. The downstream edge of the upstream cell Is shifted in the downstream direction with the Increase of uniform flow almost linearly.

  • The procedure of semi-solid forming is composed of heating a billet, forming, compression holding and ejecting step. There are several methods to heat a billet during semi-solid forming process such as electric heating and induction heating. Usually in semi-solid forming process, induction heating has been adopted to achieve more uniform temperature of semi-solid material. Although induction heating is better method than any others, however, there is still difference of temperature between internal part and surface part of semi-solid material. Worse yet, in case of high liquid fraction of semi-solid material, liquid of the billet will flow down though solid of the billet still remains, which is very difficult to handle. In the present study, induction heating of semi-solid material with compulsive surface cooling has been performed to obtain uniform distribution of temperature. Distribution of temperature of the billets was measured and compared with that of conventional distribution of temperature. By this new induction heating method, not only temperature over the whole billet become uniform, but also control of temperature is possible.

  • We investigated a uniform temperature zone, produced by double flame structure of a coflow CH4/air partially premixed flame, to be used as a temperature calibration source for laser diagnostics. A broadband N2 CARS(coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy) system with a modeless laser was used for temperature measurement. When the stoichiometric ratio was 1.5, we found the uniform temperature zone in radial direction of the flame of which the averaged temperature was 2110 K with standard deviation 24 K. In the stoichiometric ratio range between 2.0 and 2.5, we found very stable temperature-varying zones in vertical direction at the center of the flame. The size of the zone was approximately 15 mm and it covered a temperature range from 300 K to 1900 K. We also suggest that this zone can be used as a calibration source for 2-D PLIF(planar laser induced flurescence) temperature measurement.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the physiological responses and the Subjective sensations of the human subjects when 10 human subjects(5 males and 5 females) were tested with selected ensembles, including the uniforms of students, industrial and bank workers. For the study, garment material and design were selected, which was mostly used in Taegu area by the survey. Thermal manikin and the human subject tests were performed. The results were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference among skin temperature of head by season and among that of breast and back by all variables, however, there was a significant difference among that of belly by gender and that of thigh and shank by season. In addition, there was no significant difference among rectal temperature by gender and season, but there was a significant difference by uniform. 2. Mean skin temperature of male subjects was significantly higher than that of female subjects. Specially in lower environmental condition, the difference got larger. 3. There was a significant difference among purse rate of subjects by uniform, but there was no significant difference among those by gender and season. There were no significant difference among maximum and minimum blood pressure by gender, uniform, and season. 4. There was a significant difference in temperature of chest among gender and uniform, and there was no significant difference in temperature of back by season. In addition, There was a significant difference in humidity of back by uniform and season but there were no significant difference in that by gender. 5. There was a significant difference in humidity sensation by gender, comfort sensation by uniform and season, but there was no significant difference thermal sensation by uniform and season. 6. For the result of regression analysis, we got the regression equations as follows: Clo=1.810 Thickness+0.525, Clo=0.475 weight+0.863.

  • The hygrothermal stresses in sandwich plate with composite faces due to through the thickness gradient temperature and (or) moisture content are investigated. The layer-wise theory is employed for formulation of the problem. The formulation is derived for sandwich plate with general layer stacking, subjected to uniform and non-uniform temperature and moisture content through the thickness of the plate. The governing equations are solved for free edge conditions and 3D stresses are investigated. The out of plane stresses are obtained by equilibrium equations of elasticity and by the constitutive law and the results for especial case are compared with the predictions of a 3D finite element solution in order to study the accuracy of results. The three-dimensional stresses especially the free edge effect on the distribution of the stresses is studied in various sandwich plates and the effect of uniform and non-uniform thermal and hygroscopic loading is investigated.

  • To get the basic data for making comfortable military uniforms and to examine the distribution of clothing microclimate, seasonal fluctuations of skin temperature, subjective sensation, and clothing microclimate were measured from 10 males. The subject were questioned on thermal comfort in experiment. Clothing microclimate temperature at breast, skin temperature at four sites (breast, upper arm, thigh, leg), deep body temperature at eardrum( tympanic temperature), and subjective sensation were measured for an hour in the controlled climatic chamber. The subjects felt comfortable when skin temperature were recorded $34.43^{\circ}C$ at breast, $33.53^{\circ}C$ at upper arm, $32.9^{\circ}C$ at thigh, and 32.50 at leg. Then mean skin temperature was $33.55\pm$$0.63^{\circ}C$. Clothing microclimate temperature ranged from 31.2 to $33.8^{\circ}C$, and clothing microclimate humidity ranged from 49.80~52.41%. In the comparison of these results with the microclimate of military uniforms, it needs more insulation in clothing for military uniforms. It also says that military uniforms should be made of the textiles which can control humidity.

  • The boiling characteristics for R134a are studied to clarify the hysteresis at low temperature on enhanced tubes of a flooded evaporator. Initial boiling conditions, refrigerant temperature, and inlet temperature of the chilled water are considered as the key parameters of the experiments. Unlike previous studies of the boiling heat transfer with uniform heat flux and uniform wall temperature, the wall temperature was varied along the tube. In, this study, it was found that the hysteresis of the temperature overshoot (705) at the onset of nucleate boiling initially at the inlet section of the tube. It is also concluded that the abnormal operation can be avoided during the low temperature boiling if the refrigeration system is started with LMTD larger than $3.4^{\circ}C$ at initial stage and larger than $1.0^{\circ}C$ at normal stage.
