  • We proposed a simple and efficient routing protocol designed specifically for multi-hop ad-hoc networks. The proposed protocol is composed of the two routing tables which work together to allow nodes to send and receive packets. All aspects of the protocol can be operated on networks entirely consisting bidirectional links and networks with unidirectional links. Finding unidirectional link is embedded in the routing protocol since we considered not only bidirectional links but also unidirectional links when we developed a routing method.

  • Route establishment in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is the key mechanism to a successful connection between a pair of source and destination nodes. An efficient routing protocol constructs routing path with minimal time, less routing overhead and capable of utilizing all possible link connectivity. In general, most on-demand MANET routing protocols operates over symmetrical and bidirectional routing path, which is infeasible due to the inherent heterogeneous properties of wireless devices. Simulation results show that the presence of unidirectional links on a network severely affect the performance of a routing protocol. In this paper, a robust protocol independent scheme is proposed, which enable immediate rediscovery of alternative route for a path blocked by a unidirectional link. The proposed scheme is efficient; route rediscovery is locally computed, which results in significant minimization of multiple route packets flooding. Nodes may exploit route information of immediate neighbors using the local reply broadcast technique, which then redirect the control packets around the unidirectional links, therefore maintaining the end-to-end bidirectional connection. The proposed scheme along with Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and AODV-Blacklist routing protocol is investigated over three types of mobility models. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is extremely reliable under poor network conditions and the route connectivity can be improved by as much as 75%.

  • In this paper, we propose a dynamic source routing protocol supporting asymmetric paths for mobile Ad Hoc networks that contain unidirectional links. At present, the existing dynamic source routing protocol supports only symmetric paths that consist of bidirectional links for routing. However, in fact, there can exist unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environment. Thus, we implement a mobile Ad Hoc routing protocol supporting unidirectional links, which is fit for more general wireless environment. Especially, the proposed protocol uses an improved multipath maintenance method in order to perform rapid route reconfiguration when route error due to mobility is detected. For performance evaluation, we consider the following factors: average route discovery time and average data reception rate. In order to obtain the factors of the performance evaluation, we did simulation for 900 seconds in the step of 100 seconds with the following scenarios: usage of route cache in intermediate nodes on route path, and different mobility/connection patterns.

  • There can exist unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environments on practical mobile ad hoc networks. However, at present, the existing mobile ad hoc routing protocols are implemented to support only bidirectional links. Thus, in this paper, we extend the existing dynamic source routing protocol in order to implement a new routing protocol, which is fit to mobile ad hoc networks containing unidirectional links. For performance evaluation, we use combinations of mobility scenario files and connection pattern files from Carnegimelon Univ. We consider received data rate and average route discovery time as evaluation items, which are compared and evaluated for three suggested route discovery methods.

  • It is the Mobile Ad Hoc Networks that constituted with serveral mobile node that can communicate with other mobile nodes. Until now, there were no routing protocols considering such as Multimediadata, VOD (Video On Demand), which is required of lots of bandwidth in Mobile Ad Hoc Network, io we are in the need of QoS (Quality of Service)routing protocol to transmit the data packets faster and more accurate. Also, there are an unidirectional links due to asymmetric property of mobile terminals or current wireless environments on practical mobile ad hoc networks. However, at present, the existing mobile ad hoc routing protocols are implemented to support only bidirectional links. In this paper, we propose the Advanced Routing routing protocol in order to implement a new routing protocol, which is fit to mobile ad hoc networks containing unidirectional links and to support QoS service. For the performance evaluation, we use NS-2 simulator of U.C. Berkeley. We could get not only increased received data rate and decreased average route discovery time, but also network load decreases with compared Best effort service.

  • Recently, demand for real-time data and multimedia data is rapidly increasing, and it is impossible for mobile Ad Hoc networks with only best effort service to efficiently transfer such data. So, we absolutely need the QoS service which reserves the communication resources in advance. The existing routing protocols, which assume that the links between nodes are bidirectional, provide the convenience for the route discovery and maintenance, but can not support the routing function for the unidirectional links due to the wireless link property easily changing with time under the real wireless environment. In order to solve such problems, in this dissertation we suggested a unidirectional QoS routing a waste of communication resources. The waste of protocol that supports unidirectional links and reduces communication resources is reduced by establishing the shortest route suitable to QoS support, considering in advance the usable communication resources at each node.

  • Routing in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is highly challenging because of the dynamic nature of network topology. AntHocNet is a bio-inspired routing protocol for MANETs that mimics the foraging behavior of ants. However, unlike many other MANET routing protocols, the paths constructed in AntHocNet are unidirectional, which requires a separate path setup if a route in the reverse direction is also required. Because most communication sessions are bidirectional, this unidirectional path setup approach is often inefficient. Moreover, AntHocNet suffers from looping problems because of its property of multiple paths and stochastic data routing. In this paper, we propose a modified path setup procedure that constructs bidirectional paths. We also propose solutions to some of the looping problems in AntHocNet. Simulation results show that performance is significantly enhanced in terms of overhead, end-to-end delay, and delivery ratio when loops are prevented. Performance is further improved, in terms of overhead, when bidirectional paths setup is employed.

  • This paper investigates how many optimal routes can be established in terms of a given wireless mesh routing metric. Although many of routing metrics have been devised to precisely derive the wireless link quality in mesh, most (if not all) metrics have not been evaluated their optimality along with routing protocols. We consider stateof-the-art routing metrics and a widely accepted routing protocol in order to observe the optimality of established routes varying the number of source nodes. Also, we propose a unidirectional routing to deal with possible link asymmetry feature in wireless links. Through comparative simulation evaluations, we show that the portion of optimally established routes becomes less as the network traffic load increases, regardless of employed metrics, network topologies, and routing protocols.
