  • This study seeks a way a way of dealing with unformatted natural language considering fuzzy set theory. The goal of the study is to establish a framework of an effective language understanding system that is linked to language classification system This study has found that languate understanding is strongly influenced by the language classification. The understanding of language. This study shows that the precision of language classification depends upon the way of how the language is classified in advance. In this study, a fuzzy logic was used to improve the precision of language classification. It was considered that the fuzzy logic might be albe to distinctively classify nuatural language texts into pretinent homogenious groups where contents of the language were identical. Accordingly, in the study, it was expected that classification of language were precisely classified by the fuzzy logic. An experimentalsystems was designed to evaluate the performane of a natural language understanding system that was connected to a fuzzy language classification system. Finally, the experiment suggests that a successful language understanding should require an real time interaction between mem andmachine fuzzy provious language classification.

  • This paper is to develop an integrate curriculum of rhythm education activity program and to find the possibility of applying the program into actual music education field for kindergarten children. The outlook of this study is to develope a program integrating the elements of movement, language and rhythm to apply the program to 5 year old children for 6 weeks through 12 sessions, and to observe and analyze their level of rhythm creativity and rhythm reading ability. The analysis of the field observation data and recording data showed that the children achieved natural and better understanding of rhythm. Seen from the perspective of rhythm creation activity, while the integration of the elements of movement and rhythm influenced directly to enhance the level of understanding rhythm and the integration of the elements of language, rhythm helped indirectly to have better understanding rhythm through connecting the notions of rhythm and movements. However, when only rhythm and movements were combined, children tended to misunderstand the relative durations of ♩ and ♪ just as different tempos not as 2:1 duration relativity. And ♫ was too misunderstand as ♬ due to different durations of korean words when only rhythm and language were combined. To overcome the limit of understanding, all of the three elements; rhythm and movements and language should be integrated and constant auditory experiences are recommended.

  • This study was designed to explore the analogical reasoning and metaphoric understanding in typically developing children and language impaired children. 13 Language-impaired children were matched to 16 typically developing children on the basis of receptive vocabulary age. All 29 children were enrolled in the 1st to 3rd grade in regular elementary schools. All were administered analogical reasoning and metaphoric tasks. Results indicated that the children with language disabilities did not perform as well as the receptive vocabulary matched group on the two tasks. In addition, we found that both of children with and without language disabilities did not have relationship between analogical reasoning and metaphoric understanding.

  • We propose a multi-strategic concept-spotting approach for robust spoken language understanding of conversational Korean in a hostile recognition environment such as in-car navigation and telebanking services. Our concept-spotting method adopts a partial semantic understanding strategy within a given specific domain since the method tries to directly extract predefined meaning representation slot values from spoken language inputs. In spite of partial understanding, we can efficiently acquire the necessary information to compose interesting applications because the meaning representation slots are properly designed for specific domain-oriented understanding tasks. We also propose a multi-strategic method based on this concept-spotting approach such as a voting method. We present experiments conducted to verify the feasibility of these methods using a variety of spoken Korean data.

  • Recently, the number of students to choose to study in Australia has been increasing significantly. The purpose of this study is to examine how Korean primary school children perceive their own English language learning and cultural adaptation in Australia. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 34 Korean children aged 8-13 who were attending primary schools in Brisbane, Queensland. The study results show that they made diverse efforts to learn English language and culture in Australia, such as making English-speaking friends, watching TV/video/DVD, reading English books, and studying with a foreign tutor. Their English listening and writing abilities were thought to be improved most, followed by speaking, reading and cultural understanding after studying in Australia. The subjects were mostly satisfied with their study and life in Australia but they had difficulties with communicating in English, homesickness, foods, weather, insects, and discrimination. In particular, they had problems with understanding classes conducted all in English and participating in the classroom activities due to their low level of English ability and understanding of Australian classroom culture. The findings of this study have pedagogical implications for educators both in Australia and Korea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the understanding about speech therapy and the satisfaction of counseling about speech therapy according to the characteristics of mothers who have children with disabilities, and to devise the clinical instruction methods to provide the effective speech therapy by identifying the correlation between the two variables. Methods: This study conducted a survey for 78 mothers of children with disabilities who use speech therapy labs in university. 17 questions were composed to investigate the understanding degree about speech therapy and 24 questions were composed to investigate the satisfaction degree about speech therapy counseling. Results: First, the survey showed that mothers who have the higher education level have the higher understanding degree about language(p<0.01). Second, the survey showed that mothers who have the higher education level have the lower satisfaction degree about counseling process(p<0.5). In the view of job status, mothers who have a job have the higher satisfaction degree about counseling time(p<0.5). Third, the survey showed that in the view of mothers'understanding degree about speech therapy and satisfaction degree about counseling, mothers who have the higher understanding degree about language, speech therapy tools and speech therapy area have the higher satisfaction degree about counseling. Conclusions: This study showed the necessity to understand the subjects'needs exactly and communicate with mothers actively. In addition, the concrete and various methods should be devised in order to increase the understanding degree about speech therapy and increase the satisfaction degree of counseling about the clinical practice environment and language therapy process.

  • The majority of work done to date on natural language processing has focused on analysis and understanding of language, thus natural language generation had been relatively less attention than understanding, And people even tends to regard natural language generation CIS a simple reverse process of language understanding, However, need for natural language generation is growing rapidly as application systems, especially multi-language machine translation systems on the web, natural language interface systems, natural language query systems need more complex messages to generate, In this paper, we propose an algorithm to generate more flexible and natural sentence using lexical functions of Igor Mel'uk (Mel'uk & Zholkovsky, 1988) and systemic grammar.

  • Spoken language understanding, which aims to understand utterance as naturally as human would, are mostly focused on English language. In this paper, we construct a Korean language dataset for spoken language understanding, which is based on a conversational corpus between reservation system and its user. The domain of conversation is limited to restaurant reservation. There are 7 types of slot tags and 5 types of intent tags in 6857 sentences. When a model proposed in English-based research is trained with our dataset, intent classification accuracy decreased a little, while slot filling F1 score decreased significantly.
