  • Washing machines designed to clean laundry have been more widely used at home as they reduce household labor and boost the quality of life. Technological advances and better standards of life increase demand for laundry washing performance. Energy efficiency regulations and consumer demand for the larger trend, washing machine makers should be done in performance studies to reduce power, and water consumption and the load on power transmission devices. In this study, performance of a fully automatic washing machine with unconstrained transmission is analyzed through experiment and CFD simulation. It is found that the interaction between laundry and transmission change the washing behavior and affect washing performance with regard to the degree of freedom. The results obtained in this study can be used in developing new washing machine transmissions and make them more robust.

  • This paper proposes a fast distributed constrained power control (FDCPC) with non-stationary relaxation factor to next power update in CDMA cellular power control system. We review unconstrained control algorithms, the distributed power control (DPC), unconstrained second order power control (USOPC) and DPC with stationary relaxation factor (DPCSRF). Under the unconstrained condition, the convergence analysis shows theoretically that the convergence rate of DPC is the fastest one. However, under the constrained control algorithms, DCPC is not the fastest one any more because of transmission power constraint. To improve the convergence speed, the DCPC with non-stationary relaxation factor (FDCPC) are proposed. Under the constrained condition, the convergence rate of FDCPC outperforms that of DCPC and CSOPC.

  • A design problem is studied for a nonuniform transmission line (NUTL) section to be inserted between an arbitrary source impedance and an arbitary load impedance for the purpose of impedance matching or providing a minimum input reflection coefficient over a frequency ranee as wide as possible. A special class of NUTL's, yet comprehensive enough to include almost all smoothly varying lines, are considered. Power series expansions of the ABCD parameters of such lines are used in the calculation of the input reflection coefficient. The design problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem withnonlinear constraints and is solved by a combined use of the sequential unconstrained minimization technique and tile Fletcher-Powell method. As a result, a line section was obtained which shows a marked improvement over any one hitherto published as a wide-band impedance matching device.

  • 1-DOF shear building was designed, built and tested to investigate the interactions between the shear building and the shaking table excited harmonically by the electro-magnetic forces. In the experiments horizontal accelerations of the shaking table and the shear building were measured. To understand the experimental results experimental setting was modeled as an unconstrained 2-DOF system under the hormonic forces. The responses of the shear building and the shaking table of the unconstrained 2-DOF system were found with the equations of motions. The magnification factors of the table and the shear building with respect to the amplitude of the harmonic forces and the transmission of the shear building with respect to the table excitations were found and compared with the experimental results.

  • Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have emerged as one of the new hot topics in wireless communications. WMNs have been suggested for use in situations in which some or all of the users are mobile or are located in inaccessible environments. Unconstrained transmission in a WMN may lead to the time overlap of two or more packet receptions, called collisions or interferences, resulting in damaged useless packets at the destination. There are two types of collisions; primary collision, due to the transmission of the stations which can hear each other, and hidden terminal collision, when stations outside the hearing range of each other transmit to the same receiving stations. For a WMN, direct collisions can be minimized by short propagation and carrier sense times. Thus, in this paper we only consider hidden terminal collision while neglecting direct collisions. To reduce or eliminate hidden terminal collision, code division multiple access (CDMA) protocols have been introduced. The collision-free property is guaranteed by the use of spread spectrum communication techniques and the proper assignment of orthogonal codes. Such codes share the fixed channel capacity allocated to the network in the design stage. Thus, it is very important to minimize the number of codes while achieving a proper transmission quality level in CDMA WMNs. In this paper, an efficient heuristic code assignment algorithm for eliminating hidden terminal collision in CDMA WMNs with general topology.

  • A computer-aided design system of involute cylindrical gears(spur and helical gears) for power transmission is developed, in which the volume of a gear unit is minimized with satisfying various design constraints. As the design constraints, bending strength and pitting resistance of AGMA 218.01, scoring of Dudley's flash temperature, contact ratio, and involute interference of pinion are considered and effective factors for strength calculation(life, reliability, hardness ratio, load distribution, velocity, etc.) are also included. This complicated nonlinear optimization problem is solved by using ALM(Augmented-Lagrange-Multiplier) method with self scaling BFGS(Broydon-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno) method employed for unconstrained optimization programming. This design method can be easily applied to designing power transmission gear unit in the machines of various kinds. It is expected for the proposed method to be a contribution for an automated design of gear unit towards weight minimization, miniaturization and high strength of gear unit.

  • It has been noted that the low frequency absorption coefficient of a porous sample placed in a standing wave tube is affected by the nature of the sample's edge constraint. The edge constraint has the effect of stiffening the solid phase of the sample, which itself can be strongly coupled to the material's fluid phase, and hence the incident sound field, by viscous means at low frequencies. In recent work it has also been shown that such a circumferential constraint causes the low frequency transmission loss of a layer of fibrous material to approach a finite low frequency limit that is proportional to the flow resistance of the layer and which is substantially higher than that of an unconstrained sample of the same material. However, it was also found that the benefit of the circumferential edge constraint was reduced in a transitional frequency range by a shearing resonance of the sample. Here it will be shown that the effect of that resonance can be mitigated or eliminated by adding additional axial and radial constraints running through the sample. It will also be shown that the constraint effect can be modeled closely by using a finite element procedure based on the Biot poroelastic theory. Implications for low frequency barrier design are also discussed.

  • Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) are both recognized as promising techniques, one is for solving the resource insufficient of mobile devices and the other is for powering the mobile device. Naturally, by integrating the two techniques, task will be capable of being executed by the harvested energy which makes it possible that less intrinsic energy consumption for task execution. However, this innovative integration is facing several challenges inevitably. In this paper, we aim at prolonging the battery life of mobile device for which we need to maximize the harvested energy and minimize the consumed energy simultaneously, which is formulated as residual energy maximization (REM) problem where the offloading ratio, energy harvesting time, CPU frequency and transmission power of mobile device are all considered as key factors. To this end, we jointly optimize the offloading ratio, energy harvesting time, CPU frequency and transmission power of mobile device to solve the REM problem. Furthermore, we propose an efficient convex optimization and sequential unconstrained minimization technique based combining method to solve the formulated multi-constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The result shows that our joint optimization outperforms the single optimization on REM problem. Besides, the proposed algorithm is more efficiency.

  • An objected-oriented programming(OOP) technique is introduced to dispatch schedules for TWBP. Some dispatch schedules such as constrained (pre)dispatch, unconstrained (pre)dispatch, and nominal self-dispatch schedule need to be peformed to make power market work. These dispatch schedules are similar but have some differences in required constraints, needed data, and scheduling time. Therefore, it makes the scheduling program simple to introduce the OOP technique to this problem: to have each instance of the OOP perform its own dispatch scheduling. The developed program adopts linear programming(LP) as an optimization tool and could consider some crucial constraints such as power balance, generation power limits, generation ramp-rates, power limitations of transmission lines, and power system security.

  • In this study, we implemented an unconstraint ECG monitoring system on a chair. Nowadays, modern people spend most of their time sitting on the chair. Therefore, it is necessary to have an unconstraint ECG monitoring system that can be used for a long time. The implemented system can perform measurement even with clothes on and it has great advantage on motion artifacts. A pair of unconstraint electrodes are placed on the back of the chair. Amplifier and filters are designed to remove motion artifacts, The baseline noise and power line noise are filtered and very low level of bio-signal is amplified to give a final measurement. Control unit and wireless transmission unit are implemented. Analog signal is converted into digital signal and transmits biological signal to the PC and the smart phone. Therefore continuous ECG monitoring in daily life is made possible. A comparison experiment between Ag / AgCl electrode and unconstraint electrode is conducted to evaluate the performance of the implemented system. As a result, we confirm our unconstraint system can be used for daily life ECG monitoring.
