Analysis on the cascade high power piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers

  • A new type of cascade sandwiched piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer is presented and studied. The cascade transducer is composed of two traditional longitudinally sandwiched piezoelectric transducers, which are connected together in series mechanically and in parallel electrically. Based on the analytical method, the electromechanical equivalent circuit of the cascade transducer is derived and the resonance/anti-resonance frequency equations are obtained. The impedance characteristics and the vibrational modes of the transducer are analyzed. By means of numerical method, the dependency of the resonance/anti-resonance frequency and the effective electromechanical coupling coefficient on the geometrical dimensions of the cascade transducer are studied and some interesting conclusions are obtained. Two prototypes of the cascade transducers are designed and made; the resonance/anti-resonance frequency is measured. It is shown that the analytical resonance/anti-resonance frequencies are in good agreement with the experimental results. It is expected that this kind of cascade transducer can be used in large power and high intensity ultrasonic applications, such as ultrasonic liquid processing, ultrasonic metal machining and ultrasonic welding and soldering.

시분할 방식을 이용한 3차원 초음파 풍향풍속계 측정기술 개발 (Development of 3 - Dimensional Ultrasonic Wind Direction Anemometer Measurement Technique Using Time Division Method)

  • The three dimensional ultrasonic anemometer was constructed to reduce the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer and to be free from the use environment. Three pairs of transmitting and receiving ultrasonic sensors were designed to face each other at an angle of $45^{\circ}$ to the upper and lower surfaces at intervals of $120^{\circ}$. 200 kHz ultrasonic sensor Oscillation, transmission and reception, level detection, power supply circuit were designed and U, V, W wind speed vector components were obtained by measuring the time of first received ultrasonic pulse by transmitting pulse ultrasound. It is implemented as firmware in ARM Coretex-M3 processor so that horizontal and vertical wind direction and wind speed can be converted into digital signal by vector calculation. In this study, The three-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer can complement the disadvantages of the two-dimensional anemometer (mechanical and ultrasonic), and it is expected to gradually replace the two-dimensional anemometer due to its high utilization rate by collecting additional information such as vertical wind.

초음파를 이용한 가시광인식 수동형 트랜스폰더 (A Passive Transponder for Visible Light Identification Using Ultrasonic wave)

  • In this paper, we newly developed a passive transponder for visible light identification (VLID) using ultrasonic wave. The solar cell in the transponder receives the reader light and generates current for supplying power to the transponder circuit. At the same time the solar cell detects the interrogating signal in the visible light from the reader. The transponder recognizes the interrogating signal and generates the responding signal using ultrasonic wave. In experiments, we used 40 kHz ultrasonic wave for the responding signal from the transponder. The maximum read distance was about 3.4 m when the transponder was exposed to the reader light of 24W LED array.

PVDF 초음파 변환기의 제작과 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fabrication and Characteristics of PVDF Ultrasonic Transducer)

  • The authors fabricated ultrasonic transducer with PVDF[poly(vinylidene fluoride)] piezoelectric polymer film. When impulse waves were applied to the PVDF ultrasonic transducer, the dependence of the response properties on the backing material with copper was investigated through not only theoretical calculations using Mason's equivalent circuit but also experimental measurements. The experimental pulse response properties agree with those of the theoretical calculations and the pulses were shorter than those for a PZT transducer. If such short-pulse properties are used in an medical ultrasonic image diagnosis apparatus, the resolution of the apparatus will be improved. When the insertion loss was calculated theoretically to the PVDF ultrasonic transducer, the frequency characteristics of its showed wideband frequency.

Zynq-SoC를 이용한 초음파 위치추적 시스템 (An Ultrasonic Positioning System Using Zynq SoC)

  • In this research, a high-performance ultrasonic positioning system is proposed to track the positions of an indoor mobile object. Composed of an ultrasonic sender (mobile object) and a receiver (anchor), the system employs three ultrasonic time-off-flights (TOFs) and trilateration to estimate the positions of the object with an accuracy of sub-centimeter. On the other hand, because ultrasonic waves are interfered by temperature, wind and various obstacles obstructing the propagation while propagating in air, ultrasonic pulse debounce technique and Kalman filter were applied to TOF and position calculation, respectively, to compensate for the interference and to obtain more accurate moving object position. To perform tasks in real time, ultrasonic signals are processed full-digitally with a Zynq SoC, and as a software design tool, Vivado IDE(integrated design environment) is used to design the whole signal processing system in hierarchical block diagrams. And, a hardware/software co-design is implemented, where the digital circuit portion is designed in the Zynq's fpga and the software portion is c-coded in the Zynq's processors by using the baremetal multiprocessing scheme in which the c-codes are distributed to dual-core processors, cpu0 and cpu1. To verify the usefulness of the proposed system, experiments were performed and the results were analyzed, and it was confirmed that the moving object could be tracked with accuracy of sub-cm.

  • 초음파트랜스듀서는 초점거리의 제어를 위해서 각 진동요소에 전기회로를 이용한 위상가중치를 부가하는 방식을 사용하고 있다. 그러나 이러한 방법은 진동요소가 증가함에 따라 전기회로가 더욱 복잡해진다. 본 연구에서는 바이몰프형 액츄에이터를 신호의 송수신을 하는PVDF의 뒷부분에 삽입하여 선집속형 트랜스듀서를 제작하였다. 이 트랜스듀서를 사용하여 액츄에이터에 인가되는 전압 변화에 의해 기계적으로 초점거리를 제어할 수 있었다. 이 방법을 사용한 결과 수중에서 선집속형 초음파 트랜스듀서의 초점거리를 곡률 반경의 10%범위까지 제어 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • Digital signal processor (DSP) is used to obtain the peak value and the time difference of ultrasonic signals, to make digital filter, and to derive mathematical transformation from analog circuit. In this study, C-scan system and control program have been developed to high speed data acquisition. This system consists of signal processing parts (DSP, oscilloscope, pulser/receiver, digitizer), scanner, and control program.   • 초음파 hyperthermia를 이용한 암 치료는 정상세포에 열적 손상을 주지 않으면서 종양 부위만을 적당한 온도로 가열하여야 하며 따라서 종양세포와 정상세포에 대한 정확한 초음파 세기 조절이 필요하게 된다. 본 연구에서 초음파 hyperthermia용 변환기로써 촛점 거리와 집속 범위를 전자적으로 조절할 수 있는 육각환 변환기를 설계, 제작하였으며 위상조 절회로를 이용하여 초음파 hyperthermia 시스템을 구성, 그 음향 특성을 측정하였으며 모의 생체 실험을 수행하였다. 실험 결과 촛점 부근에서 초음파 에너지가 집속되는 것을 확인하였으며 초음과 hyperthermia 시스템으로써의 유용성을 확인하였다.

  • The purpose of this paper is to establish a method of design of the Ultrasonic Motor for Driving Robot Hand. This method is based on two models for the ultrasonic motor(a two dimensional elastic contact model. electric equivalent circuit). And analyzed the basic model which installed in the module to match the suitable standard. As varied external diameter, internal diameter and thickness, the proper ultrasonic motor is implemented to find a targeted resonant-frequency and torque near to designed values.

  • In this paper, noble electrical equivalent circuit ultrasonic motor is applied by model of parallel one from mechanical equation of piezoelectric device and characteristics estimation is done by equivalent converter. Uitrasonic motor is driven by oscillation circuit of two-phase high frequency inverter. Operating frequency of inverter is described by tracking control method of resonance frequency, according to change of load, temperature etc.
