Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare smear layer removal by conventional application (CA), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), EasyClean (EC), and XP-Endo Finisher (XPF), using 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) after chemomechanical preparation, as evaluated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Materials and Methods: Forty-five single-rooted human mandibular premolars were selected for this study. After chemomechanical preparation, the teeth were randomly divided into 5 groups according to the protocol for smear layer removal, as follows: G1 (control): CA of distilled water; G2 (CA): CA of 17% EDTA; G3 (PUI): 17% EDTA activated by PUI; G4 (EC): 17% EDTA activated by EC; and G5 (XPF): 17% EDTA activated by XPF. SEM images (×1,000) were obtained from each root third and scored by 3 examiners. Data were evaluated using the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests (p < 0.05). Results: In the apical third, there were no statistically significant differences among the groups (p > 0.05). In the cervical and middle thirds, the experimental groups performed better than the control group (p < 0.05); however, G2 presented better results than G3, G4, and G5 (p < 0.05), which showed no differences among one another (p > 0.05). Conclusions: No irrigation method was able to completely remove the smear layer, especially in the apical third. Using CA for the chelating solution performed better than any form of activation.

High spatial resolution ultrasonic imaging is necessary in several fields of investigation, in order to permit greater precision of clinical diagnosis in the dermatology, ophthalmology etc. We present a B-mode scan system using sector scanning probe of 20MHz center frequency. This developed system allow the high resolution image of 250${\mu}m$ in lateral and 80${\mu}m$ in axial, which of display the size of a $5mm {\times} 5mm$ image with 20 frames/sec. We have shown the images of various structural elements of the human skin and of the nail. We have compared the skin images obtained for each of the different age and we have shown in a general with the age, the atrophy of the skin thickness and the appearance of the abnormal hypoechogene band under epidermis (named SENEB : Sub Epidermal Non Echogene Band).
In this study, we spray a Ni-Cr composite powder onto AISI 4340 steel using the high velocity oxygen fuel method. We subsequently subject the Ni-Cr coating (as-sprayed) to ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) process to improve the tribological performance. This study aims at increasing the wear resistance and durability of the Ni-Cr coating by altering the surface integrity and microstructure via the UNSM process. The UNSM process reduces the surface roughness of the as-sprayed coating by about 64%, which is explained by observing the elimination of high peaks and valleys and filling up micro-pores. Furthermore, a change in the microstructure of the coating due to continuous high-frequency strikes to the surface by a tip can lead to an increase in hardness from about 48 to 60 HRC. Furthermore, we investigate the characterization of the friction and wear behavior of Ni-Cr coating by a ball-on-disc tribometer in the dry conditions. We determine that after the UNSM process, there is a significant reduction in the friction coefficient of the as-sprayed coating from approximately 1.1 to 0.75. This is owing to the increased hardness and smoothed surface roughness. In addition, we investigate the surface morphology and wear track of the coatings before and after the UNSM process using a scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrometer, and three-dimensional laser scanning microscope. We observe that the wear track of the Ni-Cr coating after the UNSM process is lower than that of the as-sprayed one. Thus, we confirm that the UNSM process has a significant influence on the improvement of the tribological performance of the Ni-Cr composite coating.

We fabricates the $TiO_2$ thin film from anatase phase $TiO_2$ powder having good photocatalytic property using aerosol deposition method at room temperature. Aerosol deposition method, which sprays an aerosol powder with ultrasonic velocity and deposits a thin film on substrate at low temperature, has the advantages of low thermal stress and low cost. To fabricate the $TiO_2$ thin film, the aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure were 500 torr and 0.4 torr, respectively. The difference of aerosol bath pressure and chamber pressure accelerated the $TiO_2$ nano powder to ultrasonic velocity through the nozzle of $0.4 mm{\times}10 mm$ and $TiO_2$ thin film was finally formed. SS mesh with diameter of 50 mm was used as a substrate to apply the $TiO_2$ thin film to water quality purification. The raw powder was dehydrated for the good dispersion of $TiO_2$ powder. To suppress the formation of second particle, the powder was dispersed for 90 min in alcohol bath by ultrasonic treatment and desiccated. The grain size of $1 {\mu}m$ was observed in $TiO_2$ thin film deposited on SUS mesh by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The anatase phase of $TiO_2$ thin film was also observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the anatase phase of raw powder was nicely maintained after aerosol deposition. The results are applicable to water treatment filter having photocatalytic reaction.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro effects of the loss of tooth substance and root surface changes following root planing with various periodontal instruments. The 39 extracted human teeth due to severe periodontal disease were included. The total 50 root surfaces of 30 teeth were root planed with following instruments : Group 1, with Gracey curette, Group 2, with ultrasonic scaler, Group 3, with rotating root planing bur, Group 4, with Gracey curette plus rubber cup polishing, and Group 5, with ultrasonic scaler plus rubber cup polishing. Following root planing, the amount of tooth substance loss was evaluated by measuring the weight of the removed tooth substance and then 5 specimens ($5{\times}5{\times}2mm$) were randomly selected from the each group for roughness measurement. Root planed areas of each specimen were subjected to five measurements using the Profilometer and an average surface roughness values(Ra) for each group was obtained. Statistical difference for roughness values of each group was analyzed using oneway ANOVA and student t-test. For scanning electron microscopic(SEM) examination of root surface changes following root planing, 15 root surfaces of remaining 9 teeth were root planed and 3 specimens were randomly selected. The mean loss of tooth substance removed was Group 1, $7.0{\pm}1.09mg$, Group 2, $1.3{\pm}1.00mg$, Group 3, $5.8{\pm}1.72mg$, Group 4, $8.7{\pm}1.34mg$, and Group 5, $4.5{\pm}1.68mg$ following root palning, respectively. These results indicate that curette is effective instrument in the respect of diseased root substance removal. The average surface roughness values are following results : Group 1 and Group 4 were the smoothest surface ($Ra=0.34{\pm}0.06{\mu}m$, $Ra=0.34{\pm}0.04{\mu}m$, respectively) and Group 2 was the roughest surface ($Ra=2.09{\pm}0.06{\mu}m$). Statistical analysis of roughness values demonstrated a highly significant difference (P<0.05) between each experimental groups. However, no statistically significant difference in roughness values were observed between the Group 1 and Group 4. The results in this study suggest that curette and/or polishing procedure should be done after root planing with ultrasonic scaler and caution should be used with dia-mond-coated bur during routine root planing procedure.

In this study, (GaN)1-x(ZnO)x solid solution nanoparticles with a high zinc content are prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and subsequent nitridation. The structure and morphology of the samples are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The characterization results show a phase transition from the Zn and Ga-based oxides (ZnO or ZnGa2O4) to a (GaN)1-x(ZnO)x solid solution under an NH3 atmosphere. The effect of the precursor solution concentration and nitridation temperature on the final products are systematically investigated to obtain (GaN)1-x(ZnO)x nanoparticles with a high Zn concentration. It is confirmed that the powder synthesized from the solution in which the ratio of Zn and Ga was set to 0.8:0.2, as the initial precursor composition was composed of about 0.8-mole fraction of Zn, similar to the initially set one, through nitriding treatment at 700℃. Besides, the synthesized nanoparticles exhibited the typical XRD pattern of (GaN)1-x(ZnO)x, and a strong absorption of visible light with a bandgap energy of approximately 2.78 eV, confirming their potential use as a hydrogen production photocatalyst.
A number of components installed in the secondary system of nuclear power plants are exposed to aging mechanisms such as FAC (Flow-Accelerated Corrosion), Cavitation, Flashing, and LDIE (Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion). Those aging mechanisms can lead to thinning of the components. In April 2013, one (1) inch small bore piping branched from the main steam line experienced leakage resulting from wall thinning in a 1,000 MWe Korean PWR nuclear power plant. During the normal operation, extracted steam from the main steam line goes to condenser through the small bore piping. The leak occurred in the downstream of an orifice. A control valve with vertical flow path was placed on in front of the orifice. This paper deals with UT (Ultrasonic Test) thickness data, SEM images, and numerical simulation results in order to analyze the extent of damage and the cause of leakage in the small bore piping. As a result, it is concluded that the main cause of the small bore pipe wall thinning is liquid droplet impingement erosion. Moreover, it is observed that the leak occurred at the reattachment point of the vortex flow in the downstream side of the orifice.
We investigated the effect of ZnO buffer layer on the formation of ZnO thin film by ultrasonic assisted spray pyrolysis deposition. ZnO buffer layer was formed by wet solution method, which was repeated several times. Structural and optical properties of the ZnO thin films deposited on the ZnO buffer layers with various cycles and at various temperatures were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and photoluminescence spectrum analysis. The structural investigations showed that three-dimensional island shaped ZnO was formed on the bare Si substrate without buffer layers, while two-dimensional ZnO thin film was deposited on the ZnO buffer layers. In addition, structural and optical investigations showed that the crystalline quality of ZnO thin film was improved by introducing the buffer layers. This improvement was attributed to the modulation of the surface energy of the Si surface by the ZnO buffer layer, which finally resulted in a modification of the growth mode from three to two-dimensional.

This paper presents the method for three-dimensional micro structure with photoresist spray coating system. The system consists of a high temperature rotational chuck, ultrasonic spray nozzle module, angle control module and nozzle moving module. Spray coating system is effected by several parameters such as the solid contents, the dispensed volume, the scanning speed of the spray nozzle and the wafer of dimension. The photoresist (AZ 1512) has been coated on the three-dimensional micro structure by spray coating system and the characteristics have been evaluated.
Automated breast ultrasound (ABUS) equipment is a new innovative technique for 3D automatic breast scanning, but limited for the examination in the concave axillary region. The purpose of this study was to determine feasible candidate materials for the ultrasonic wave propagation media in ABUS, enabling the evaluation of the axillary region. Ultrasonography was performed using an ABUS system ($Invenia^{TM}ABUS$, GE, USA) on the ultrasound-specific phantom (UC-551M-0.5, ATS Laboratories, USA) covered by different candidate materials. The validity of feasible candidate materials was evaluated by image quality. Three independent radiological technologists, with more than 10 years of experience, visually assessed on the images. The inter-observer agreements according to the candidate materials were tested using Cronbach's alpha. Unenveloped solidified carrageenan can be a feasible material for the use of ABUS with excellent test reliability. Therefore, the coverage of the axillary region with carrageenan may be effective for ABUS which was originally developed for the convex anatomic structure as female breast.
