Design of Ultra Wide-Band CMOS Low Noise Amplifier (광대역 CMOS 저잡음 증폭기 설계)

  • An ultrawideband(UWB) $3.1{\sim}5.15$ GHz low-noise amplifier employing a novel input matching circuit and feedback topology are presented. The proposed UWB amplifier is Implemented in $0.18{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology. Measurements show a NF of $3.4{\sim}3.9$ dB, a power gain of $12.8{\sim}14$ dB, better than -9.4 of input matching and, an input IP3 of -1 dBm, while comsuming only 14.5 mW of power.

  • Recently, a container shipping volume has increased dramatically and continued on a trend of rapid growth, and so the number of container handled at the port increase. therefore, it's increasing about concern of harbor automatism to save distribution costs in harbor. harbor automatism classifies into four large automatism's, gate automatism by using RFID that trailer come with burdening the container to be loaded on ships go though with RFID and Quay-Side container crane automatism that treats cargos loading on ships and automatism of CG that loads containers from yard, and automatism of container transporters that carries containers in between gates. To increase the using efficiency of harbor, detecting exact location of yard crane is very important matter. In this paper, propose about yard crane automatism applied UWB Location system and the development direction.

Link Adaptation Method of the Block Coded Modulation for UWB-IR (무선광대역통신을 위한 블록부호화방식의 링크 적응 기법)

  • In wireless communications environments, a link adaptation technique that selects the proper rate from among several transmission rates is adopted to cope with variations in channel status. In block coded modulation, the frame time and/or the block length can be adjusted to the channel status. A smaller frame time can cause inter-frame interference (IFI), however, a larger frame time can reduce the data rate. Therefore, frame time is the design factor decided by a tradeoff between performance and the data rate. This paper presents a method to determine the frame time based on the processing gain for the channel model, CM1~CM4, recommended by IEEE 802.15a. Also, a link adaptation technique for block coded modulation is proposed for efficient communications by varying the frame time and the block length. Through simulation, link adaptation can be carried out with a step size of 2~5 nsec in a frame time range of 14~ 50 nsec for channel models CM1~CM4.

  • The anti-vibration tables that use air suspensions as dampers have been widely used due to their high anti-vibration performance in wide frequency band. However, they face a problem of easily accelerating the vibration when triggered by external force because their air suspensions have low rigidity and dampness. In response, there has been a study on active/semi-active dampers that use only the passive components like air suspensions to complement the passive-control format. Thus, we have dynamically analyzed the active/semi-active control of such passive anti-vibration tables. To demonstrate the anti-vibration table's control system, we have also constructed a kinetic model based on the physical characteristics of an anti-vibration table with 6 degrees of freedom and verified its applicability through analysis and experiments.

  • MB-OFDM (Multiband-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) UWB (ultra wide band) system uses DCM (dual carrier modulation) scheme to achieve high-data rate transmission. The basic idea of DCM is that to transmit the 4 bits more reliably two 16-QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) symbols are used and the two 16-QAM sysmbols are allocated to each subcarrier of OFDM with maximum-distance. In the case of using the DCM, if one 16-QAM symbol is broken by deep fadding channel, a receiver can detect the transmitted signal by using another 16-QAM symbol. In the conventional ML(maximum likelihood) decision scheme, since the receiver does not use the CSI (channel state information), loss in diversity can not be reduced. In this paper, we propose improved soft-decision scheme with CSI for higher performance of MB-OFDM UWB systemn.

  • 전자파표면유속계는 여러 측정지점을 가능한 신속하게 이동하면서 홍수시 유속을 측정하는데 그 목적이 있다. 또한 홍수시 유속은 시간대 별로 급격히 변하는 속성을 가지고 있으므로 유량측정 지점의 유량을 실시간으로 획득하기 위해서는 현장 측정에서 측정한 유량데이터가 실시간으로 집계 되어야한다. 현재의 시스템은 측정 정보를 실시간으로 전송하기 위하여 현장 측정자에게 PDA가 보급되어 있으며 CDMA망을 통해서 유량 측정을 위한 각종 정보 및 측정결과를 실시간 전송하도록 되어있다. 그러나 전자파표면유속계를 비롯한 각종 유속계가 PDA와 무선으로 통신을 할 수 있게 되어있지 않기 때문에 열악한 여건의 현장에서 측정한 데이터를 야장에 수기로 기록한 후 이를 다시 PDA에 수동으로 입력시켜야하는 불편함이 있다. 전자파표면 유속계를 제외한 다른 측정 장비는 제조회사가 수자원공사와 독립적인 업체이므로 통신 접속을 하기위한 특정 인터페이스를 알아내기가 어려운 실정이다. 그러나 전자파표면유속계는 수자원공사에서 개발한 장비로서 핵심기술을 수자원공사에서 보유하고 있으므로 PDA와 통신을 가능하게 하는 장치의 개발이 가능하다. 이에 이러한 불편한 문제점을 개선하여 현장에서 홍수 유량 측정시 작업자들의 편이성을 증대시키고자 전자파표면유속계와 PDA간에 근거리통신기법을 적용하였다. 이를 위하여 Bluetooth, UWB(Ultra-Wide Band, 초광대역통신), Zigbee 등 적용가능한 근거리 통신기법을 조사하였다. 그 결과 Zigbee가 소비전력이 적어 현장에서 홍수유량측정에 이용되는 전자파표면유속계에 적용성이 가장 뛰어난 것으로 나타났다. 무선통신 모듈과 연동되는 전자파표면유속계는 이동식을 기준으로 적용하였으며 기존 신호처리부에 무선통신 모듈을 장착할 수 있는 구조로 설계하였다. 장착 방식은 기존 이동식 유속계의 신호처리부의 RS-232 포트에 무선통신 모듈을 장착하면 사용할 수 있는 구조로 되어있다. 신호처리부 RS-232 포트는 현재까지는 측정한 유속값을 PC로 전송받는 용도로 활용되었으나 무선모듈 장착 시에는 무선통신 할 수 있는 이중화 구조를 채택하였다. 두 가지 방식에 대한 통신구별은 초기에 송수신하는 데이터에 따라 구별되도록 하였다. 신호처리부에서 무선통신 추가에 따른 운용 방식은 별도의 수자원공사 모드를 추가하여 운용하도록 수정하였다. 유속 측정 시에는 무선통신 모듈을 제거한 상태에서 측정한 후, 측정한 데이터를 PDA로 전송할 때 아를 부착하여 사용할 수 있는 구조를 갖도록 제작하였다. 이러한 방식을 적용시킨 이유는 기존에 보급된 유속계에 무선모듈을 장착한 후, 신호처리부 운용 프로그램을 업그레이드하면 바로 사용할 수 있도록 하기 위함이다.

  • In this paper, Gaussian probability distribution model based multi-sensor data fusion algorithm is proposed for a vehicular location awareness system. Conventional vehicular location awareness systems are operated by GPS (Global Positioning System). However, the conventional system is not working in the indoor of building or urban area where the receiver is difficult to receive the signal from satellites. A method which is combined GPS and UWB (Ultra Wide-Band) has developed to improve this problem. However, vehicular is difficult to receive seamless location information since the measurement systems by both GPS and UWB convert the vehicle's movement information separately at each sensor. In this paper, normalized probability distribution model based Hybrid UWB/GPS is proposed by utilizing GPS location data and UWB sensor data. Therefore the proposed system provides information with seamless and location flexible properties. The proposed system tested by Ubisense and Asen GPS in the $12m{\times}8m$ outdoor environments. As a result, the proposed system has improved performance for accurateness and connection ability between devices to support various CNS (Car Navigation System).

  • In this paper presents a CMOS RF receiver for IR-UWB wireless communications is presented. The impulse radio based UWB receiver adopts the non-coherent demodulation that simplifies the receiver architecture and reduces power consumption. The IR-UWB receiver consists of LNA, envelop detector, VGA, and comparator and the receiver including envelope detector, VGA, and comparator is fabricated on a single chip using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The measured sensitivity of IR-UWB receiver is down to -70 dBm and the BER $10^{-3}$, respectively at data rate 1 Mbps. The current consumption of IR-UWB receiver except external LNA is 5 mA at 1.8 V.

  • Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) is a new unmanned transportation system using electricity. The purpose of the PRT is relieving the congestion of city traffic and connecting between inner city and airport, high-speed railroad. PRT requires to develop devices for the guarantee of safety and reliability. PRT as the mean of rail transportation must be equipped with control system for front rail sensing. Ultra Wide Band(UWB) radar system is suitable for PRT's detection because it has the advantage of low power consumption, low interference and high resolution. In this paper, an improved adaptive Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) algorithm is proposed and studied in various noise environments. The proposed algorithm improves performance in various noise environments compared to the Mean Level CFAR algorithms and other adaptive CFAR algorithms.

  • Ultra wide band (UWB) technology will be applied in the high rare wireless personal area networks (WPANs) for its high rate, low power, and innate immunity to multipath fading. In this paper, a power aware multi-hop packet relay MAC protocol in UWB based WPANs is proposed and a power aware path status factor (PAPSF), which is derived from SINR and power resource condition of each device, is used to select a suitable relay node. Compared with relaying by piconet coordinator (PNC), which is easily chosen by other ad hoc routing protocol, the new scheme can achieve hi임or throughput, decrease the time required for transmitting high power signal and we can easily distribute the battery power consumption from PNC to other devices in the piconet to prevent the PNC device using up its battery too fast and finally avoid PNC handover too frequently.
