  • Plate has cutout inner bottom and girder and floor etc in hull construction absence is used much, and this is strength in case must be situated, but establish in region that high stress interacts sometimes fatally in region that there is no big problem usually by purpose of weight reduction, a person and change of freight, piping etc. Because cutout's existence gnaws in this place, and, elastic budding strength by load rouses large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, perforated plate elastic budding strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria which must examine when decide structural elements size at early structure design step if ship. Therefore, and, reasonable elastic budding strength about perforated plate need design ultimate strength. Calculated ultimate strength change several aspect ratioes and cutout's dimension, and thickness in this investigation. Used program applied ANSYS F.E.M code based on finite element method

  • The tubes which are applied in jacket platforms as the supporting structure might be collided by supply vessels. Such kind of impact will lead to plastic deformation on tube members. As a result, the ultimate strength of tubes will decrease compared to that of intact ones. In order to make a decision on whether to repair or replace the members, it is crucial to know the residual strength of the tubes. After being damaged by lateral impact, the simply supported tubes will definitely loss a certain extent of load carrying capacity under uniform axial compression. Therefore, in this paper, the relationship between the residual ultimate strength of the damaged circular tube by collision and the energy dissipation due to lateral impact is investigated. The influences of several parameters, such as the length, diameter and thickness of the tube and the impact energy, on the reduction of ultimate strength are investigated. A series of numerical simulations are performed using nonlinear FEA software LS-DYNA. Based on simulation results, a non-dimensional parameter is introduced to represent the degree of damage of various size of tubes after collision impact. By applying this non-dimensional parameter, a simplified formula has been derived to describe the relationship between axial compressive residual ultimate and lateral impact energy and tube parameters. Finally, by comparing with the allowable compressive stress proposed in API rules (RP2A-WSD A P I, 2000), the critical damage of tube due to collision impact to be repaired is proposed.

  • In the present work, the two back stress kinematic hardening models are proposed by combining Armstrong-Frederick, Phillips and Ziegler's hardening rules. Simple combination of hardening rules using simple rule of mixtures results in various evolutions of the kinematic hardening parameter. Using the combined hardening models the ultimate back stress fur the present models is also derived. The stress rate is co-rotated with respect to the spin of substructure due to the assumption of kinematic hardening rule in finite deformation regime. The work piece under consideration is assumed to consist of the elastic and the rigid plastic deformation zone. Then, the J2 deformation theory is facilitated to characterize the plastic deformation behavior under various loading conditions. The plastic deformation localization behaviors strongly depend on the constitutive description namely back stress evolution and its hardening parameters. Then, the analysis for Swift's effects under the fixed boundaries in axial directions is carried out using simple shear deformation.

  • The stress-strain relationship of polymer concrete flexural member was evaluated using C-shaped polyester concrete specimen, the compressive strength of which is 1400 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Eccentric compression test was performed to estimate the parameters, ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$1, ${\gamma}$ for equivalent rectangular stress block. The ultimate moment strength ware obtained from the bending test on reinforced polymer concrete beams which were prepared with S different tensile steel ratios with a shear span ratio of 4.0. These values were compared with theoretical ultimate moment strengths, which were obtained using the parameters ${\alpha}$=0.61 and ${\beta}$1=0.73 from stress-stain curves of C-shaped specimens. The results showed that, when tensile steel ratio was over 0.50 $\rho$b, the experimentally obtained moment strengths were well matched with theoretically calculated values. In order to develop accurate criteria for polymer concrete flexural members, however, many other expermental studies for parameter determination are necessary using C-shaped specimens which have various compressive strengths and different sizes.

  • The concrete structural design provisions in Korea are based on ultimate strength design. Up to service load stage, it is assumed a linear stress-strain relation, but there is no stress-strain relationship for a concrete material from service load stage to limat state. According to the current provisions, an independent method is provided for the each calculation of deflection and crack width. In EC2 provisions based on limit state design, however, a stress-strain relationship of concrete is provided. Thereby, it is able to calculate a strength as well as a deflection directly from concrete stress-strain relationship. In this paper the moment-curvature relationship is directly calculated from a material law using equilibrium and compatibility conditions. Then strength and deflection are formulated. These results are compared with the values from the current provisions in Korea. From the results, the deflection based on a moment-curvature relationship is well agreed with experimental results and it is appeared that the deflection after the yielding of steel is also possible.

  • Nonlinear stress analysis of nuclear containment building is carried out using microscopic concrete material model. The present study mainly focuses on the evaluation of the ultimate pressure capacity of idealized containment building in nuclear power plant. For this purpose, an eight-node degenerated shell element it adopted and an imaginary opening in the apex of containment building is allowed in FE model. From numerical analysis, the adopted concrete material model performs well and has a good agreement with the result obtained by using ABAQUS. Finally, we propose the present study as a benchmark test for nonlinear analysis of containment building.

  • Authors had developed the model for the fatigue life assessment of welded details considering residual stress and its relaxation. The model consists of three ingredients; a hot-spot stress approach, a residual stress relaxation, and an equivalent stress. The equivalent stress is induced by stress ranges and the ratios between the applied mean stresses and the ultimate stress of material. Once being tuned with two specific fatigue tests by using load carrying cruciform joint, this model can be applied to many kinds of welded details which structural stress concentration factors are different from each other. This paper reports the application of the proposed model for various welded details including cover plate, longitudinal stiffener, gusset and side attachment. From the investigation of predicted results by using the proposed model it was shown that the ambiguous fatigue characteristics of the various details influenced widely by the welding residual stress are clarified, and also the model could be applied to assess fatigue life of general welded structures.

  • In this study, a graphical automatic system is developed in order to investigate the stress redistribution of structural members in a steel cable-stayed bridge. The generalized Maxwell model is selected for stress relaxation estimation, and it is carefully verified and applied to all the cable members of a steel cable-stayed bridge to investigate its stress relaxation. A set of stress relaxation parameters in all cables is determined using the fmincon optimization function. The stress redistribution of the steel cable-stayed bridge is then analyzed using ABAQUS. To shorten the investigation time, all the aforementioned phases are built up to be an automatic system. The automatic system is then employed to investigate the effect of cable cross-section areas and girder spans on stress redistribution. The findings from these studies show that the initial tension in the cables of a steel cable-stayed bridge should be kept to less than 55% of the cable's ultimate strength to reduce the effect of cable stress relaxation. The cable space in a steel cable-stayed bridge should be limited to 15,000 mm to minimize the effect of cable stress relaxation. In comparison to other structural members of a steel cable-stayed bridge, the girders experience a significant stress redistribution.

  • A modified low-Reynolds-number Reynolds stress model is developed for the calculation of drag-reducing turbulent flows induced by polymer injection. The results without polymer injection are compared with the results of direct numerical simulation to ensure the validity of the basic model. In case of drag reduction, profiles of mean velocity and Reynolds stress components, in two-dimensional channel flow, obtained with a proper value of viscosity ratio are presented and discussed. Computed mean velocity profile is in very good agreement with experimental data. And, the qualitative behavior of Reynolds stress components with the viscosity ratio is also reasonable.
