Development and Evaluation of UX Design Centered STEAM Career Education Program Utilizing Personas Models (페르소나 모델을 통한 UX 디자인 STEAM 활용 진로교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to give the opportunity to explore the career in UX(User Experience) designer and presents how to teach for UX design that is stressed in IT industry recently. We develop the textbook which is for 3 class periods for STEAM career exploration of UX designer for K-3 and K-4 students considering their students' intellectual level, prior knowledge and interests. We will offer this program to K-3 and K-4 students, soon. It will be expected that students can accept the knowledge about UX design and explore the career for UX designer.

  • UX (User Experience) Design was an interdisciplinary approach in humanities, engineering, science and design. We classified the roles of user experience; requirement analysis which are user research, constraints analysis and direction analysis, concept design, information architecture, physical UI, graphical UI, sound UI, Olfactory UI, prototype, evaluation, launch, localization, and knowledge management/UI DB. User research methods were classified by the relation of designer, user, and product/service. We reviewed three issues of UX design; complexity management, efficiency management, and mapping management.

UI Elements Identification for Mobile Applications based on Deep Learning using Symbol Marker (심볼마커를 사용한 딥러닝 기반 모바일 응용 UI 요소 인식)

  • Recently, studies are being conducted to recognize a sketch image of a GUI (Graphical User Interface) based on a deep learning and to make it into a code implemented in an application. UI / UX designers can communicate with developers through storyboards when developing mobile applications. However, UI / UX designers can create different widgets for ambiguous widgets. In this paper, we propose an automatic UI detection method using symbol markers to improve the accuracy of DNN (Deep Neural Network) based UI identification. In order to evaluate the performance with or without the symbol markers, their accuracy is compared. In order to improve the accuracy according to of the symbol marker, the results are analyzed when the shape is a circle or a parenthesis. The use of symbol markers will reduce feedback between developer and designer, time and cost, and reduce sketch image UI false positives and improve accuracy.

Understanding User Perception of Generative AI and Copyright of AI-Generated Outputs: focusing on differences by user group (생성 AI와 AI 창작물 저작권에 대한 사용자의 인식 연구: 사용자 그룹의 차이를 중심으로)

  • Generative AI systems are expected to be more widely utilized. However, relatively little attention has been paid to understanding how users perceive and accept generative AI results. To identify strategies for increasing the future use of generative AI and prepare for potential issues, we organized design workshop for the general user group and the designer group. They created artwork utilizing Novel AI and semi-structured interview was followed to evaluate their attitudes toward generative AI and its copyright. Results indicate that the general public views generative AI positively, while the design-related group views it quite negatively. The participants expressed concerns as to the misuse the system, specifically related to copyright issues. People who are likely to utilize generative AI outcomes have insisted more strongly that copyrights should be their own. Those working in the design field highly evaluated the possibility of using generative AI in their work. Copyright perceptions were not significantly influenced by users' satisfaction or their level of involvement in the creation process. We discuss design implications for interfaces using generative AI based on the findings.

  • In this paper, we propose a user experience evaluation method for virtual reality living space contents and apply it to prototype simulations to measure user experience. The user evaluation method proposed in this paper is based on the existing user evaluation methodology, but it is established by changing the experience and evaluation factors to match the characteristics of the virtual reality living space. The generated virtual reality living space simulation is configured similar to real space and is placed real objects that the user actually uses in each space, so that users can feel reality. The subjects performed the tasks according to the given scenarios and then evaluated the simulation. As a result of the evaluation, the main goal of the simulation, the items that make the users feel realistic, were lower than our expectations. This means that future simulations need to be modified in a way that adds or expands elements that enhance the realism. In this way, the UX evaluation method proposed in this paper is expected to provide a more objective indicator to the content developer or designer in order to grasp the user's demand in the virtual reality living space.

Data Literacy Education in Design Curriculum of Higher Education Focused on Development of Design-Data Convergence Curriculum (디자인 교과과정에서의 데이터 문해력 교육에 관한 연구 -디자인-데이터 융합 교과 개발 사례를 중심으로)

  • This study explores convergence curriculum for design and data science, and applies data science knowledge on undergraduate design classes for designer's data literacy. First, related studies about data literacy education for non-data science major's, and data driven design project cases are explored, then design competency and data competency based on NCS are studied. Then this study developed 3 step design-data convergence curriculum model for designers' data literacy. The curriculum model is applied on case study classes, which are Big data and UX design(2) classes. The learning results and student's feedback of the case study classes are collected and analyzed to prove the design-data convergence curriculum, and the results provide findings and implications of the design-data convergence class case study.
