The Application of UV curing technique for poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) floor tiles coating has improved the quality of PVC floor. Several formulations were made including acrylated oligomers based on a polyurethane were blended with reactive monomers, photoinitiators and other additives. The used oligomers are commercial aliphatic urethane acrylates. Thin films were prepared on PVC tiles by bar coating with different formulations using UV radiation. The coating resins were characterized by FTIR. The properties of UV-cured films such as gloss and adhesion were examined. The properties of UV-cured films dependent on the influence of composition and processing conditions was studied.
In this study, polybutadiene based di-functional urethane acrylate oligomer (PB-UAO) were synthesized from polybutadiene diol and isophorone diisocyanate. And then, pressure sensitive adhesive films were prepared by mixing with synthesized oligomer, tri-functional acrylate monomer (Tris(2-acryloyloxyethyl) isocyanurate (TAOEIC) or Trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) or Pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA)), mono-functional acrylate monomer (Stearyl acrylate) and UV initiators. Effects of types and contents of trifunctional acrylate monomers on peel strength, tensile strength, elongation, thermal stability and water absorption property were studied. As the contents of tri-functional acrylate monomer increased, and as the molecular weight of tri-functional acrylate monomer decreased, peel strength, elongation and water absorption showed a tendency to decrease whereas tensile strength and thermal stability showed a tendency to increase.
Transparent plastic substrates require an improvement in properties such as surface hardness and thermal stability for optical applications. In this study, UV-curable organic/inorganic hybrids were synthesized to improve those properties. In order to make the optimum dispersion of inorganic component into the organic matrix, an in situ synthetic method was applied based on sol-gel reaction. Dispersion of the inorganic component in the organic urethane acrylate matrix was improved by using a proper combination of sol-gel reaction and fast UV-curing resulting in the formation of the transparent coating layer. Various alkoxy silanes were employed to vary both the degree of curing and coating properties of UV-curable organic/inorganic hybrids. UV-cured organic/inorganic hybrid coatings showed an improved surface hardness and thermal resistance depending on the content of inorganic component.

The effect of synthesis conditions such as various organic material and composition of organic-inorganic material in ozone resistance and surface characteristic of ultraviolet cured organic-inorganic hybrid coating film has been investigated. Organic-inorganic hybrid coating solution was prepared using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), silane coupling agent methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS), 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmethacrylate, and various organic materials with acrylate group, bar-coated on substrates using applicator and densified by UV-curing. It was found that ozone resistance and surface hardness of the coating film was increased with contents of TEOS. It was also found that ozone resistance of coating film was increased with contents of 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmethacrylate. On the other hand, surface hardness was decreased with increase of 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmethacrylate. In addition, Surface hardness of coating film was increased with the addition of aliphatic urethane acrylate. It was also found that the transmittance of coating films was not influenced by content of TEOS and 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmethacrylate. In addition, the coating film exhibited high transmittance of above 90%.

In this study, the composite coating materials with improved thermal insulation property were prepared by incorporating the hydrophobic silica aerogel. The surface modification of silica aerogel was performed to obtain UV curable urethane acrylate hybrid coating sols with good compatibility by using surfactant(Brij 56). The polycarbonate substrates were coated by the prepared composites and cured under UV radiation. The incorporation of aerogel with only 10 vol% of content resulted in remarkable improvement by about 28% in the thermal insulation property of the coated film, as compared with substrate. In addition, increasing aerogel content was found to give minor effect on the variation of optical transparency, adhesion, and surface hardness of the coated film.
UV-curable hard coating solutions were prepared by mixing organic or inorganic polysilazane with urethane acrylate. UV-cured hard coating films were also obtained by flow coating, subsequently UV-curing on polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) sheets. The effect of types and amounts of polysilazane was investigated on properties of obtained coating films. As a result, the coatings obtained by using organic polysilazane showed a high hydrophobic property with water contact angle of $95^{\circ}$, pencil hardness of 7H and high transparency of 92% in the visible wavelength range. On the other hand, the PMMA sheets made by using inorganic polysilazane exhibited a pencil hardness of as high as 8H, good adhesion to the substrate and water contact angle of $82^{\circ}$.
In this study, the composite coating materials with improved thermal insulation property were prepared by incorporating the hollow micro-spheres with high heat transfer resistance. The UV curable resin system consisting of hexa aliphatic urethane acrylate (UP118), trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA), 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA), and photoinitiator (Irgacure184) was employed as an organic binder. The glass substrates were coated by the prepared composites via bar coating method and cured under UV radiation. The optical transparency, thermal insulation property, adhesion, and surface hardness of the glass coated with composites containing different type of micro-spheres were investigated. The incorporation of micro-spheres with only 20 vol% of content resulted in remarkable improvement in the thermal insulation property of the coated glass. In addition, the transparent coated glass with light transmittance of about 80% could be obtained when silica micro-sphere (SP) was used as a thermal barrier.

Five different composition UV-cured poly(urethane acrylate-co-acrylic acid) (PU-co-AA) films have been prepared by reacting isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), polycaprolactone triol(PCLT), 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA), and different weight ratio trimethylolpropane triacrylate(TMPTA) and acrylic acid(AA) as diluents, and characterized using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The adhesion properties onto the stainless steel, morphology, mechanical hardness, and electrical property of UV-cured PU-co-AA films were investigated as a function of acrylic acid(AA) content. All the PU-co-AA films are structure-less and the molecular ordering and packing density decreased with increasing content of AA due to the flexible structure and -COOH side chains in AA. The crosscut test showed that PU-co-AA films without AA and with low content of AA showed 0% adhesion(0B) and the adhesion of PU-co-AA films in the range of 40-50% AA increased dramatically as the content of AA increases. The pull-off measurements showed that the adhesion force of PU-co-AA films to stainless steel substrate varied from 6 to 31 kgf /$cm^2$ and increased linearly with increasing AA content. The mechanical hardness also decreased as the content of AA increases. This may come from relatively linear and flexible structure in AA and low crystallinity in PU-co-AA films with higher content of AA. The higher AA-containing PU-co-AA films showed higher dielectric constant due to the increase of polarization by introducing AA monomer. In conclusion, the physical properties of UV-cured PU-co-AA films are strongly dependent upon the content of AA and the incorporation of AA in polyurethane acrylate is very useful way to increase the adhesion strength of UV-curable polymers on the stainless steel substrate.
Transparent, abrasion resistant coatings with 4~13 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were prepared by spin-coating on polycarbonates with organic/inorganic hybrid solutions, followed by UV curing and heat treatment at 12$0^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours. The coating solutions were composed of inorganic phase and organic phase in 0:100, 20:80, 30:70, 50:50, 80:20 wt% ratios, respectively, mixed with photoinitiator, senaitizer and surfactant. The inorganic phase was formed by sol-gel reaction of TEOS and silane coupling agent MPTMS in 1 : 2 or 2 : 1 molar ratios, the organic phase consisted of difunctional urethane acrylate oligomeric resin, multifunctional acrylate TMPTA and HDDA in 4 : 3 : 3 wt% ratio. The coating systems were investigated by FT-IR, $^{29}$ Si-NMR spectra. In addition, TGA/DSC for thermal analysis and SEM, AFM observation for coated surface were examined. Gererally, the homogeneity of phases, the surface smoothness of coating and abrasion resistance were improved with the higher content of inorganic component. Namely, coating system with below 10 $\AA$ surface roughness and T$_{g}$ of 15$0^{\circ}C$ showed only 10% decrease in light transmittance after abrasion test, whereas uncoated polycarbonate substrate exhibited 46% decrease..
The relationship between acoustic property and coating hardness of musical instruments was investigated using a sound level meter and a pendulum hardness tester. Urethane topcoat, oil stain, natural oil varnish, and UV-curable epoxy acrylate coatings were applied on four different substrates: Paulownia coreana, Pinus koraiensis, Castanea crenata var. dulcis and Pinus densiflora. The influence of the coating type on the acoustic properties was stronger than that of the substrate. In the case of an oil stain formed with tacky coating layer, the sound pressure level (SPL) and surface hardness decreased with increasing of coating thickness. In the other coatings, SPL decreased and hardness increased as the coating layer thickened. However, SPL began to increase again at coating thickness above $100{\mu}m$.
