Immunologic Mechanism of Experimental and Therapeutic Ultraviolet B Responses

  • The immunological mechanism of the responses to ultraviolet (UV) B radiation in mouse models were investigated by the suppression of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) and delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), and susceptibility to infection. However, there are some differences in immune suppression according to the different models as well as the irradiation protocols. Therefore, this review focused on the differences in the suppressive effects on CHS and DTH, and susceptibility to infection in relation to the different in vivo models. Recent advances in cytokine knockout mice experiments have the reexamination of the role of the critical cytokines in UVB-induced immune suppression, which was investigated previously by blocking antibodies. The characteristics of the suppressor cells responsible for UVB-induced tolerance were determined. The subcellular mechanism of UVB-induced immune suppression was also explained by the induction of apoptotic cells through the Fas and Fas-ligand interaction. The phagocytosis of the apoptotic cells is believed to induce the production of the immune suppressive cytokine like interleukin-10 by macrophages. Therefore, the therapeutic UVB response to a skin disease, such as psoriasis, by the depletion of infiltrating T cells could be considered in the extension line of apoptosis and immune suppression.

  • Tiliacora racemosa Colebr. belongs to the family Menispermaceae, the biggest storehouse of diphenylbisbenzylisoquinoline (DBBI) alkaloids. Exhaustive chemical processing of the root of T. racemosa by the application of modern separation techniques yielded a DBBI alkaloid which was identified as tiliacorine using sophisticated spectroscopic methods $(UV,\;IR,\;^1H-NMR,\;Mass)$. Tiliacorine possesses neuromuscular blocking activity. It produces a dose dependent hypotensive effect in rats and cats, and this effect is blocked by atropine.

천연염재의 자외선 차단성능 연구 (A Study on Ulraviolet-cut Ability of Silk Fabric Dyed with Natural Dyestuffs)

  • This study was carried out on the process of natural dye substances which can flock ultraviolet rays without producing harmful substances by pollution, germs, etc. While making human body safe in contact, extracting Gardenia, Sappan wood, Radix scutellariae, Cromwell, Mugwort, Gallnut, Lac. Those are used for curing diseases, dyeing silk cloth with those extracts, and examining the color fastness, Ultraviolet protection. From this study, the following conclusion was produced. Brightness was lower in pre-mordanting than in post. And color difference showed that Radix scutellariae was the highest. Aluminum-mordanting showed a higher color difference than Fe. Colorfastness to washing was high in all samples, and the degree of color-changing by washing was the highest in the sample dyed by gardenia, pre-mordanted gallnut showed the highest degree. Colorfastness to perspiration was the highest in gardenia. UV-A test showed that all samples a high rate of 85% or higher compared with test white cloth. Especially, post-mordanted radix scutellariae, pre-mordanted gallnut and post-mordanted sappanwood showed a superior blocking rate.

웰빙 라이프스타일과 기능성 섬유에 대한 지식이 고기능성 스포츠레저웨어의 중요도 지각에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Well-being Lifestyle and Functional Textile Knowledge on the Perception of High Functional Sports/Leisure Wear Importance)

  • This study analyzes how well-being lifestyle and functional textile knowledge effect the perception of high functional sports/leisure wear importance. A survey was conducted among male and female sports/leisure wear consumers aged 15 and over in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area from May $12^{th}$ to June $2^{nd}$ 2009. A total of 288 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and regression. As a result, 9 factors were determined as sub-elements of a well-being lifestyle. Knowledge levels for functional textiles were high in elastic, UV blocking, air permeable, and antibacterial properties. The perception of high functional sports/leisure wear importance was positively influenced by functional textile knowledge and two well-being lifestyle constructing factors ('self-confidence/affirmative thinking' and 'health/environment oriented eating habits').

잉크젯 프린팅을 이용한 자외선 차단용 $TiO_2$ 박막제조 (Preparation of UV blocking $TiO_2$ Thin Films by Inkjet Printing Method)

  • 자외선 차단용 $TiO_2$ 박막을 제조하기 위해 수열합성법 중 외부로부터 $N_2$ 가스를 인가하는 방법으로 200 bar의 압력을 유지하여 브룩카이트상의 $TiO_2$ 졸을 합성하였다. 제조된 $TiO_2$ 졸을 잉크젯 프린터로 FTO glass에 프린팅하여 $TiO_2$ 박막을 제조하였고, 합성된 졸과 박막의 특성 평가를 실시하였다. 합성된 졸의 크기는 30nm 이하로 비교적 균질하였으며 잉크젯 프린팅 후에도 입자 형상 및 크기의 변화는 나타나지 않았다. 또한, 코팅 횟수가 증가함에 따라 자외선 영역에서의 흡수도가 증가함을 알 수 있었다.

자외선 경화형 폴리우레탄 아크릴레이트/ZnO 나노콤포지트 필름의 제조 및 특성 분석 (Preparation and Characterization of UV-cured Polyurethane Acrylate/ZnO Nanocomposite Films)

  • 패키징 소재로의 응용을 위한 자외선 경화형 폴리우레탄 아크릴레이트/ZnO 나노복합필름을 ZnO의 함량을 달리하여 제조하였다. ZnO 함량을 달리하여 제조한 필름의 특성을 살펴보기 위하여 FTIR, WAXD, SEM, DSC, OTR, UV/VIS 그리고 antimicrobial test를 수행하였다. FTIR과 SEM결과는 PUA와 ZnO 나노입자 사이에 화학적 결합이나 상호작용이 약한 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이로 인해 무기 필러인 ZnO를 첨가하더라도 열적 특성의 향상을 나타내지 않는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 ZnO 나노입자의 함량 증가에 따라 자외선 차단성과 항균성이 크게 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 산소 투과도는 ZnO의 함량이 증가함에 따라 $2005cc/m^2/day$에서 $150cc/m^2/day$로 크게 감소하였으며, 패키징 응용을 위한 차단성 필름으로서 응용 가능성이 높다는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 PUA/ZnO 필름의 물성은 무기필러의 분산상태와 필름의 모폴로지에 크게 관계가 있는 것을 확인하였다.

녹두(綠豆) 에탄올 추출물 및 분획물이 피부의 미백, 항염증 효과에 미치는 영향 (The influences of Phaseolus radiatus L.'s Ethanol Extracts and Fractions on Skin Whitening and Anti-inflammatory Effects)

  • Objectives : This study is designed to clarify whitening, anti-inflammatory effect of fractions extracted from the mixture of Phaseolus radiatus L. and ethanol. Methods : In this experiment, we were intended to reveal whitening, anti-inflammatory effect of fractions extracted from the mixture of Phaseolus radiatus L. and ethanol. The whitening activity was confirmed by UV blocking activity, tyrosinase inhibiting activity, and melanin formation inhibiting activity. Anti-inflammatory activity is confirmed by measurement of cytotoxicity level by MTT assay and measurement of Cytokine expression, which is the main mediator of inflammation reaction. Results : As a results, overall activity was high in the ethyl acetate fraction. Tyrosinase inhibitory activity was less than 20% at all concentrations, but the activity to inhibit melanin self-production was higher than that of ethyl acetate fraction at $32.19{\pm}2.79%$ at $100{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. And ethyl acetate fraction had a relatively high UV blocking activity. In the anti-inflammatory test, the concentration-dependent activity was shown, and the chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions showed significant NO production inhibitory activity. Cytokine expression was superior to that of the final stage of B cell differentiation, and cell viability was over 80% except for the chloroform fraction at the concentration of $200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$. Conclusions : The results of this experiment confirmed the whitening effect and anti-inflammatory effect of Phaseolus radiatus L.'s extracts and fractions and report the possibility of application as external medicine.

산화아연 나노입자 유형이 카라기난 기반 복합 필름의 구조, 기계적 및 항균 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of zinc oxide nanoparticle types on the structural, mechanical and antibacterial properties of carrageenan-based composite films)

  • 카라기난 기반 복합필름은 세 가지 다른 아연 염(zinc acetate, zinc chloride 및 zinc nitrate) 원료를 사용하여 합성한 ZnONPs를 카라기난에 첨가하여 solvent casting 방법으로 제작되었다. SEM 결과에 따르면, 사용된 아연 염의 종류에 따라 ZnONPs의 크기와 모양에 차이가 나타났지만, 모든 ZnONPs가 카라기난 복합필름 내에서 균일하게 분산되어 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 카라기난 기반 복합필름(Car-ZnONPs)의 두께는 아연 염의 종류와 관계없이 순수 카라기난 필름에 비해 증가하였다. 파단 연신율(EB)은 증가하였고, 인장강도(TS)는 유의적으로 감소하였으며, 탄성 계수(EM)는 유의적 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이를 통해 복합필름의 기계적 특성인 TS와 EB는 첨가된 나노입자의 크기와 첨가량에 영향을 받는다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 모든 종류의 Car-ZnONPs 복합필름은 E. coli O157:H7 및 L. monocytogenes 에 대해 강한 항균 활성을 나타냈으며, 특히 zinc chloride로 합성된 Car-ZnONPsZC 필름이 가장 우수한 항균 성능을 나타냈다. 이는 zinc chloride에서 합성된 나노입자가 다른 아연 염에 비해 더 많은 아연 이온을 방출하기 때문으로 판단된다. 아연 염의 종류가 ZnONPs의 항균 능력에 영향을 미치며, 이러한 영향은 염의 종류에 따라 변화하는 ZnONPs의 크기, 형태 및 아연 이온 방출 정도에서 기인한다. 평가된 복합필름 중 Car- ZnONPsZC가 가장 높은 자외선 차단 특성을 보였으며, 파단 연신율도 순수 카라기난 필름에 비해 유의미하게 증가하여, 포장된 식품의 안전성을 유지하고 유통기한을 연장하는 데 활성 포장 필름으로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

리빙/조절 양이온중합에 의한 알파메틸스티렌 호모중합 및 이소부틸렌과의 블록공중합에 대한 반응속도론 연구 (Kinetic Studies on Homopolymerization of $\alpha$-Methylstyrene and Sequential Block Copolymerization of Isobutylene with $\alpha$-Methylstyrene by Living/Controlled Cationic Polymerization)

  • The controlled/living cationic polymerization of $\alpha$-methylstyrene (${\alpha}MeSt$) and sequential block copolymerization of isobutylene (IB) with ${\alpha}MeSt$ were achieved using 2-chloro-2,4,4-trimethylpentane (TMPCl)/titanium tetrachloride ($TiCl_4$)/titanium isopropoxide ($Ti(OiPr)_4$)/2,6-ditert-butylpyridine (DtBP) initiating system in $CH_3Cl$/hexane(50/50 v/v) solvent mixture at $-80^{\circ}C$. The polymerization rate decreased with increasing $[Ti(OiPr)_4]/[TiCl_4]$ ratio in the homopolymerization of ${\alpha}MeSt$. The effects of $[Ti(OiPr)_4]/[TiCl_4]$ ratios and $PIB^+$ molecular weight on the polymerization rate and blocking efficiency were also investigated. Well-defined poly(isobutylene-b-$\alpha$-methylstyrene)s were demonstrated by $^1H$-NMR and triple detection SEC; refractive index (RI), multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) and ultraviolet (UV) detectors. Blocking efficiencies for the poly(isobutylene-b-$\alpha$-methylstyrene)s of almost 100% were obtained when ${\alpha}MeSt$ was induced by PIB's of $M_n\;{\geq}\;41000$ at $[Ti(OiPr)_4]/[TiCl_4]=1$. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of the block copolymers showed two glass transition temperatures, thereby demonstrating microphase separation.
