This paper deals with the change of surface Potential decay, surface resistivity, contact an91e and XPS of ultraviolet-treated PET films. From the experimental results on the surface Potential decay of UV degraded-samples, it was found that the accumulation of charge is decreased and the surface potential decay time is shortened. Also, from the result of XPS, it was found that the changes affected by the surface degradation of PET film were caused by the generation of carboxyl groups through the chain decomposition and recombination with oxygen molecules in the air.
Plasmid pSL4 of plasmid pKM 101 mutant have high protection effects and mutagenecity for UV and methyl methanesulfonate, The mucA gene and a pan of mucE gene of pKM 101 and pSL4 were sucloned onto lacZ' fusion vector pMC874 and the hybrid plasmids pBH31 and pBH30 were selected. These plsmids were intrduced into $recA^{+}lexA^{-}$, $recA^{-}와lexA^{+}$ strains and determined the activity of $\beta$-galactosidase for UV. In $recA^{+}lexA^{+}$ strain.$\beta$-galactosidase activity of pBH30 included mue region of pSL4 was higher thall pBH31 inclued muc region of pKM 10 I and the tf-galactosidase of two plasmids was not induced in reeA and leeA mutants with or without UV illumination. Without UV illumination. the .$\beta$-galactosidasc of pBH30 was expressed a little higher level than that of pBH3L We suggest that the functional difference of pKM 10l and pSL4 are due to the variety of mue regulatory region. Also. a plasmid pBH 100 earring umuC' -lacZ' gene fusion was constructed in vitro to study the regulation of the umu operon. It was shown that the umu operon is induced by UV and is regulated by the reeA and lexA genes.
In this study, reliability assessment was carried out on UV(ultraviolet) indicators for the application of the indicator method on cultural heritages. As a result, some UV indicators(L, K, and M) proved to be unsuitable due to their low reactivity to UV and high reactivity to RH(relative humidity). On the other hand, indicator S showed considerable color changes and fading due to UV-B and UV-C according to the integral amount of UV irradiation. Indicator S showed the most distinct reaction to UV and a remarkable applicability to exhibition light, which are used in museums. Therefore, UV indicator S is an easy and useful monitoring tool for light environment management in cultural- property conservation facilities.

We made a multi-layer conveyor sterilizing system using UV rays to prolong a storage period of dried marine products. The system is composed of 5 layer conveyor belt of 3 m long each, thus 15 m long in total. It is designed to radiate UV rays for 10 minutes the dried marine products, and can process 300 kg/hour. Eight UV lamps of 30 cm long and 15 W of power with 254 nm wave length are installed in parallel, 15 cm high above in each belt, and 40 lamps in total. The whole system is covered by 1 mm thick metal plates to block the UV rays except a front side which is covered with 5 mm thick plastic plates coated with UV protection film to survey inside of the system. A sterile ratio is about 99.97% with 10 minutes sterilization using this system.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different light sources on the levels of glucosinolates (GSLs) in rocket salad (Eruca sativa L.). The light sources used in the study were: natural light (Control-1 or 2), red light-emitting diodes(LEDs), blue LEDs, mixed red and blue LEDs (R+B LEDs), white LEDs, fluorescent lamps (FL), and fluorescent lamps plus UV-C (FL+UV-C). Two separate experiments were conducted [Experiment I: Control-1, Red LED, Blue LED, Mix (R+B) LED and Experiment II: Control-2, White LED, FL, FL+UV-C] because of the limited number of growth chambers in our laboratory. The rate of increase in the length of rocket salad leaves was the highest under red LEDs and, FL confirming that red LED and, FL affect the growth of rocket salad. We separated and identified seven types of GSLs from the rocket salad:glucoraphanin, diglucothiobeinin, glucoerucin, glucobrassicin, dimeric 4-mercaptobutyl GSL, 4-methoxyglucobrassicin, and gluconasturtiin. The highest total GSL contents in Eexperiment I was found in plants grown under in red LEDs ($4.30{\mu}mol{\cdot}g^{-1}\;dry$ weight, DW), and the lowest under blue LEDs ($0.17{\mu}mol{\cdot}g^{-1}\;DW$). The highest total GSL contents in Experiment II was found in plants grown under FL ($13.45{\mu}mol{\cdot}g^{-1}\;DW$), and the lowest in FL+UV-C ($0.39{\mu}mol{\cdot}g^{-1}\;DW$). Especially in Experiment II, the content of dimeric 4-mercaptobutyl, which has a strong aroma and spicy flavor in rocket salad, was higher under FL and white LEDs than in Control-2, increasing by approximately 14.9 and 3.2-fold respectively. Therefore, light sources such as red LEDs, white LEDs and FL affected the accumulation of GSLs in rocket salad.

To investigate the effect of culture conditions on growth and ginsenosides accumulation, we cultured the ginseng hairy root under three different media, white light or ultra-violet irradiation. The MS/B5 medium containning MS basal salt and B5 vitamin was good for the growth and ginsenoside accumulation. The light during the culture period of ginseng hairy root was irradiated. The growth was abundant in the ginseng hairy root cultured in dark. But the ginsenosides accumulation was higher than in the ginseng hairy root cultured in the light irradiation. When the ginseng hairy root was cultured in 20 L bioreactor, the ginsenosides accumulation was observed at 34% higher than the hairy root cultured in dark. UV irradiated the ginseng hairy root during the culture period. The long time irradiation of UV was caused decreasing the growth of ginseng hairy root, but the accumulation of ginsenosidess was increased as to the irradiated time.
Hair is made of proteins containing various amino acids. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is believed to be responsible for the most damaging effects of sunlight, and also plays an important role in hair aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in morphological and chemical structures after ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation of human hair. The UVB-irradiated hair showed characteristic morphological and structural changes, compared to those of the normal hair. The result from a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray diffractometer (EDX) showed that the scale of UV-irradiated hair appeared to be rough and the amount of oxygen element was higher than that of the normal hair. Fluorescence and three dimensional (3D) topographical images were obtained by a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). In 3D images, the green emission intensity of normal hair was much higher than that of fluorescing UVB-irradiated hair. The intensity of green emission reflects the intrinsic fluorescence of hair protein. Also, a fluorescent imaging method using fluorescamine reagent was used to identify the free amino groups resulting from a peptide bond breakage in UVB-irradiated hair. Strong blue fluorescence of UVB-irradiated hair, which indicates a very high level of amino groups, was observed by CLSM. Therefore, the fluorescamine as an extrinsic fluorescence could provide a useful tool to identify the peptide bond breakage in UVB-irradiated hair. Infrared image mapping was also employed to assess the cross-sections of normal and UVB-irradiated specimens to examine the oxidation of disulfide bonds. The degree of peak areas with strong absorbance for the disulfide mono-oxide was spread from the outside to the inside of hair. The spectroscopic techniques used alone, or in combination, launch new possibilities in the field of hair cosmetics.
Lycii Cordex Radicis extract (gigolpi) examined through SOS Chromotest showed a strong, dose-dependent antimutagenic effect on the tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BOOH) induced mutagenecity. Gigolpi revealed considerable superoxide anion radical scavenging activity under L-ascorbic $acid-CuSO_4$ system, but showed lower hydroxyl radical scavenging activity in photochemical test system. Hot-water gigolpi extract delayed protein oxidation, whereas lipid peroxidation of rat skin exposed to UVB radiation was inhibited. The results indicate that gigolpi possessing antioxidant activity against UVB-induced lipid peroxidation could be used as a raw ingredient for manufacturing functional cosmetics

Research on mutant generation and isolation for microalgae yielding enhanced lipid accumulation is an important issue for the production of economic biodiesel. In the present study, ultraviolet (UV-B type) ray induced mutant generation was tried using a photosynthetic microalgae, Nannochloropsis oculata (N. oculata), for the production of biodiesel. The resulting colonies were isolated and further cultured with both liquid and solid state f/2 media. After a few week cultivation, changes of cell growth rate, dry cell weight, and several important intracellular components (chlorophyll, carotenoid, and lipid) were investigated. Two mutants among thousands colonies showed an increased cell growth and high lipid accumulation as compared to those of wild type. It was also observed that the increased cell growth rate is associated with the overexpressed intracellular proteins. However, the mutants showed a decrease in the chlorophyll biosynthesis.
To reducing offensive odor form compost UIW-6 mutant obtained by UV treatment from sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, Thiobacillus sp. IW. The UIW-6 mutant was found 1.6 times faster in growth than the parent strain on thiosulfate medium (TM) at 36 h after incubation. Initial pH, temperature and agitation for the optimum growth of UIW-6 were 6.5, $35^{\circ}C$ and 200 rpm, respectively. The UIW-6 mutant growth was two times higher than parent strain at 6 h culture in TM liquid medium containing 50 mM sodium thiosulfate. The UIW-6 mutant used fructose and sucrose as carbon sources and yeast extract> tryptone> peptone as nitrogen ones. It was found that the growth of UIW-6 was increased in addition of 0.2% yeast extract.
