  • As UCI (Universal Content Identifier) identification system becomes a national standard for content distribution, many digital contents are distributed through UCI identification system. However, problems associated with copyright infringement and copyright contracts occur due to lack of copyright information. ICN (Integrated Copyright Number), a code system developed for copyright management, includes copyright-related information for the purposes of usage settlement and accounting, illegal usage monitoring, and content filtering. ICN, however, has no information about distribution and content properties. Therefore, the linkage and integration between UCI and ICN can be a basis for the transparent and effective distribution of digital contents. In this paper, we propose a model for linking and integrating UCI and ICN, developing the efficiency in the value chain of each identified system by analyzing political factors and key technical elements between the two identification systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme to associate content-based video signature with Universal Content Identifier (UCI) system of broadcast content for copyright identification and management. Note that content-based video signature can identify a previously distributed content since it is directly extracted from content itself without allocation process of identifier such as UCI. Thus, we design the schema of UCI application metadata, which provides a video signature in order to consistently maintain a systemic link between UCI and the video signature. Also, we present the scenarios of copyright identification, management and additional service, which are based on transmission and management mechanism of video signature with UCI identification system.

  • The role of digital content identification system is being considered as a useful solution for the content management system and service system. Integrated Copyright Number(ICN), only one domestic identifier to the managing of copyright, can provide the service model in the copyright industry, because it include the information of copyright between the creator and the service provider on the digital work. Universal Content Identifier(UCI), has developed on the focus of digital content service, is somewhat lacking on the copyright management, but it is expected that systematical management and distribution system for copyright and digital work to be able to build as that make up for disadvantage with each identifier's advantage by UCI associate with ICN. In this context, This article can suggest the efficiency integrated structure and the service scenario. Therefore it is contribute to the efficient using and the effective running in the digital identification system.

  • UCI (Universal Content Identifier) as a national digital content identification system for identifying digital content and ICN (Integrated Copyright Number) for copyright management are operated by Korea copyright commission. However, They are not interoperable with international standard identification system such as ISRC (International Standard Recording Code), ISWC (International Standard Works Code), and ISAN (International Standard Audiovisual Number) due to lack of linkage system. Hence, extra works with international standard identification system are needed for international market entry and integrated management of statistical information including content settlement in international market is impossible. In this paper, the domestic/international identification systems are surveyed, and by metadata analysis of identification systems, linkage method with UCI/ICN is proposed. And also by developing the prototype model, research direction to UCI/ICN with international standard identification system is proposed.

  • Korean Government has invested a lot of efforts on digital contents industry. It believes that the digital contents industry enables Korea to regain the reputation of the most powerful IT country. Among its various efforts to promote the digital contents industry, a Digital Contents Identifier System, called UCI(Universal Contents Identifier), has been developed and deployed. UCI has provided a critical infrastructure for digital contents production and distribution. Thanks to Korean Government's efforts, users (companies and individuals) have currently registered 3.8 million digital contents through 25 RA organizations. Although the number of registered contents has been increased rapidly, many organizations hesitate to adopt the UCI system due to the lack of visible and short-term returns from the UCI system. Thus, this research tries to explore factors which affect UCI user satisfaction. This research finds that user's awareness, information quality, and service quality are the critical influencing factors toward UCI user satisfaction. In addition, this research finds that the critical influencing factors in public organizations are different from the critical influencing factors in private organizations. These findings hopefully provide useful guidelines for disseminating the UCI system widely.

  • UCI(Universal Content Identifier), a digital content identifier is a identification system based on URN(Uniform Resource Name) for the transparent distribution, efficient search and management of digital contents. Digital contents given a UCI number need metadata for serving a exact contents that users need. However, the only metadata provided by UCI are deficient to represent various information of digital contents, and ontologies which could standardize and define explicitly semantic relations between metadata (provided by UCI) are needed for better representation of information and efficient search and management of digital contents. In this paper, we extended concept-relation between metadata with ontology and designed domain ontology enabling semantic-based search by expanding UCI meta data, and showed the more efficient search and management over the metadata by UCI through various queries.

UCI Embedder: A Real-time Broadcast-Content-Identifier Watermarking System for Broadcast Content Distribution Services (방송콘텐츠 유통서비스를 위한 실시간 콘텐츠식별자 은닉삽입 시스템)

  • We introduce the standard content identifier Universal Content Identifier (UCI) and a watermarking system that embeds UCI for the broadcast content distribution services. Our proposed UCI embedder is designed in consideration of integrating with the previously established broadcast system and protecting the illegal distribution of broadcast contents. Our goal is that when broadcast content is transmitted, 28 byte UCI is embedded imperceptibly in the content itself in real-time and the embedded UCI is successfully extracted not only in the typical format used in the broadcast content distribution service but also in the illegally distributed broadcast contents. Usually the illegally distributed contents are modified from the original by changing resolutions, frame rates, or adjusting colors. In this paper, we present a watermarking scheme that embeds 28 byte UCI in broadcast content in real-time while keeping the visual quality high and the embedded watermark robust enough to survive through the various modification. The experimental results show that the embedded UCI remains in the various modified versions of content and that the visual degradation by embedding is not noticeable.

  • 본 논문에서는 방송프로그램 저작권 식별관리를 위한 방송프로그램의 Video Signature와 국가표준콘텐츠식별 체계인 UCI(Universal & Ubiquitous Content Identifier)와의 연계 방안을 제시한다. Video Signature는 UCI와 같은 식별자의 인위적인 부여 과정이 없더라도 비디오 콘텐츠 자체에서 직접 특징정보를 추출할 수 있기 때문에, 이미 배포 유통된 콘텐츠에 대해서도 식별 확인이 가능하다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 UCI 표준식별체계와 방송프로그램의 Video Signature와의 지속적인 연계를 위하여, 바이너리로 표현된 Video Signature가 포함된 UCI 응용 메타데이터를 정의한다. 그리고 UCI 표준식별체계 기반의 Video Signature 전송 및 관리 메카니즘에 기반한 방송프로그램의 저작권 식별관리 시나리오를 제시한다.

  • 인터넷의 발전과 보급으로 대용량 데이터전송이 가능해짐에 따라 디지털 콘텐츠 이용이 급격히 확산되고 있다. 이에 따라 디지털 콘텐츠관련 유통시장의 규모도 지속적으로 성장하고 있는 추세이며 우리나라를 비롯하여 선진국가들은 디지털 콘텐츠산업에 대해 관심을 가지고 선점을 위한 노력을 기울이고 있다. 이중 유통되는 수많은 디지털 콘텐츠를 식별하는 메터데이터 표준의 설정은 중요한 이슈중 하나이다. 한국정보사회진흥원(NIA)은 국내 디지털 콘텐츠산업 발전을 위한 유통인프라로써 UCI(Universal & Ubiquitous Content Identifier) 표준식별체계를 개발하여 보급하고 있으며 2008년 현재 SBSi를 비롯한 9개 공공 및 민간기관들이 UCI를 적용하여 디지털 콘텐츠를 서비스하고 있다. 본 연구는 UCI를 적용한 9개 기관의 적용사례에 대해서 도입배경과 필요성, 의사 결정과정 및 기대효과 등 다양한 관점에서 분석을 실시하였다. 이를 통해서 디지털 콘텐츠 관련 기업의 식별체계 도입 및 활용과 관련한 의사결정 및 디지털 콘텐츠 정책 추진에 주요 시사점을 제공하고자 한다.

  • 본 사례연구는 한국정보사회진흥원에서 개발한 디지털콘텐츠의 표준식별체계인 UCI(Universal Content Identifier)를 (주)누리미디어 보유의 약33만 건 콘텐츠에 적용한 사례와 비즈니스 모델을 소개하고 있다. UCI란 '디지털콘텐츠의 유통활성화' 를 이룩하기 위한 목적으로 도입하는 기술로 개별 디지털콘텐츠에 식별기호를 부여하는 기술이다. 본 사업은 UCI코드 체계를 이용하여 콘텐츠 관리 시스템을 구축하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. UCI-RA시스템 구축이후 기대효과로는 콘텐츠 제공과 관련된 업무에 인적, 물적 비용을 절감하고, 신규 콘텐츠 발굴 및 개발이 용이하도록 하였다. 또한 서비스 운영과정에서는 기 확보된 콘텐츠를 비즈니스화 하여 신규 수익창출의 모델로 육성할 수 있다. 한편 콘텐츠 소비과정에서는 콘텐츠 검색의 용이성 및 구매 용이성 증대를 통해 양질의 콘텐츠를 유통하는 것이다. 아울러 운영기업의 콘텐츠 등록 및 운영과정에서의 유료콘텐츠 정산주기율 단축, 콘텐츠 품질 고객만족도 제고 등의 효율성을 증가할 수 있다.
