  • Ubiquitous computing which is providing various convenient services to user will prevail in future. To realize ubiquitous service, analyzing technical and information factors for service implementation is necessary. This paper defines ubiquitous service model to satisfy user demands and we analyze technical and information factors in order to realize services. Based on the factors, we extracts and classifies common compositions of ubiquitous services to suggest guidelines of service design.

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce ubiquitous home services for the aged. In comparison with general ubiquitous homes, ubiquitous homes for the aged have two major characteristics. First, the service contents should be expanded and strengthened. Second, the services should be customized to each individuals. The primary objective of a ubiquitous home for the aged is health care. The three affordances for this objective are 1)prevention of sickness and reducing the speed of aging process, 2)technical assistance for disability, 3)recovering and enhancing the physical and cognitive function. For this purpose this paper analyses the characteristics of the aged and current ubiquitous technology and ubiquitous home service, thus providing an outline for ubiquitous services necessary for aged people.

  • It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristic of Home USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies in built ubiquitous environment while designing future residential space. For this study, three different housing types have been selected to implement ubiquitous technologies for residential space; those are regular, elderly, and single residence units. It is certain that efficiency of ubiquitous home design is improved if main components of each specific housing type are analyzed precisely in digital way and design models are prepared accordingly. Ubiquitous technology, in conclusion, has to be applied not on)r with systematical mechanism or electronic setting but in human-centered atmosphere as well, keeping with deep consideration for bio-housing service factors in eco-friendly surrounding; we call this Ubiquitous Humanism.

  • Recently, developing U-City as an integrated set of ubiquitous spaces has been regarded as a promising field in realizing ubiquitous computing technology. However, well-organized requirement analyses of U-City to declare what kinds of ubiquitous space services are needed and which ubiquitous computing technology should be incorporated to come up with the needs are still insufficient. Hence, the aims of this Paper are to Propose a set of unique U-City construction philosophies and to analyze which services Should be offered in the ubiquitous Space services in U-Cities. A field survey to the citizens who are potential end users of the ubiquitous space services was conducted to analyze the success factors of U-City using CSF methodology. Focused group interview with professionals in the field of ubiquitous computing technology in Korea was then performed to identify the relationship of the ubiquitous space services and the critical success factors.

  • In this paper, we describe ubiquitous environments and the trend of convergence that is an evolution path of current telecommunication, and show the concept of broadband convergence network, service feature and evolution path. In order to converge wire and wireless communication, telecommunication and broadcasting, voice and data efficiently, broadband convergence network divides a network into service layer, control layer, transport layer, ubiquitous access and terminal layer. Broadband convergence network will be a network that can provide and control broadband multimedia services with QoS and securityof different and customized level. Then we depict characteristics and types of broadband multimedia service, and describe the characteristic of broadband convergence network. Finally, we show ubiquitous network based on the broadband convergence network to provide ubiquitous service which is a future telecommunication service. We also describe requirements of ubiquitous network such as an intelligent and context based platform, convergence terminals, ubiquitous computing devices, etc., and give various emerging technologies and those applications.

  • In an upcoming ubiquitous era, humankind will live in a ubiquitous space, where everything is connected through communication network. In this ubiquitous space, a ubiquitous robot, which can be used by anyone for any service through any device and any network at anytime and anywhere in a u-space, is expected to be required to serve seamless and context-aware services to humankind. In this paper, we introduce the ubiquitous robot, and define three components of the ubiquitous robot. The first one is "SoBot" which can be connected through the network in anywhere with environment recognition function and communication ability with human. The second one is "EmBot" which is embedded into environments and mobile robots and has localization and certification function with sensor fusion. The last one is "Mobile Robot" which serves overall physical services. This paper also introduces KAIST ITRC-Intelligent Robot Research Center that pursues the implementation of the ubiquitous robot.

  • Ubiquitous technology(UT)의 발전과 더불어 특성 산업에 가시적인 적용 성과가 나타남으로써, 전통적인 제조업에서도 ubiquitous 환경 구현 및 제조기술(MT: Manufacturing Technology)과의 융합을 통한 제조혁신의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 ubiquitous factory 구현을 위한 체계적인 서비스 개발을 위해서, factory에 적용할 수 있는 특정 서비스 platform 개발을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해, 서비스 개발 platform과 관련된 연구와 ubiquitous 서비스 개발 방법론 등을 분석하여 factory 현장에 바로 적용할 수 있는 platform을 개발하였다. 개발된 platform을 검증하기 위해 사례분석을 통해 연관분석을 실시함으로써 본 연구의 타당성을 검토하였다. 본 연구에서 개발된 platform은 ubiquitous factory를 구현하는데 활용될 예정이며, 향후 적용을 통한 개선사항을 도출하여 제조혁신을 위한 방법론으로 정립할 예정이다.

A Study on Factors Affecting the Continued Usage Intention of Ubiquitous Services (유비쿼터스 서비스의 지속적 이용의도에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 유비쿼터스 시스템적 특성과 서비스 품질 요인을 중심으로)

  • Ubiquitous computing is enhancing computer use by making many computers available throughout the physical environment without being noticed to the users. To facilitate successful adoption and diffusion of ubiquitous systems, it is important to find out the factors affecting their uses. Although researches related to ubiquitous computing have been vigorously conducted from the aspect of system and service provider, there have been very few studies that focus on the user's perspective. This study attempts to find out major factors which are dedicated to the development of ubiquitous systems and services and the relationships between these factors and user satisfaction factors. This study derived the specific factors that characterize ubiquitous services, such as ubiquity, contextual offer, user affinity, privacy, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. We also considered service quality factors of ubiquitous services. Then these factors were combined with the Expectation Confirmation Theory (ECT) model and the path analysis was applied to find out the factors affecting user satisfaction and the intention to use the systems. The research findings indicate that ubiquity, contextual offer, privacy, reliability, and responsiveness affect the perceived usefulness. The perceived ease of use and confirmation were found to affect the perceived usefulness. The perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and confirmation fumed out to influence the satisfaction. It turned out that the result of this study on the relationship between the perceived usefulness and user satisfaction was identical with the findings in previous related ECT researches. We think this study makes two significant contributions to the development of ubiquitous services. First, this study provides basic implications for better ubiquitous services by considering important characteristics of ubiquitous systems as services. Second, this study also suggests important factors that need to be considered when ubiquitous service providers develop new ubiquitous services to improve user satisfaction and the intention to use the services.

Analysis on Current State and Development Cases of Ubiquitous Tourism Information Service (유비쿼터스 관광 정보서비스 구축 현황 및 사례 분석)

  • As ubiquitous technology has been developed and has come into everyday life, it has been integrated to tourism information service. However, each regional government develops ubiquitous tourism information service independently without successful example or standard. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze existing cases of domestic ubiquitous tourism information service as a foundation research to establish standard and effective development strategy for accelerating ubiquitous tourism information service in the future. First, ubiquitous technology trend which can be adapted to tourism information service was reviewed by secondary research. Second, representative cases of ubiquitous tourism information service were collected and analyzed in four aspects such as adapted ubiquitous technology, adapted device, service content and type of content. Finally, overall development strategy of ubiquitous tourism information service was discussed based on the analysis result. This paper contributes to get an outline of present conditions and problems of existing ubiquitous tourism information service, suggest overall development direction for ubiquitous tourism information service and point out necessity of the standard and unified plan for nationwide development and management.
