CATEGORICAL PROPERTIES OF SEMI-CONTINUOUS QUASI-ORDERED SPACES

  • We study categorical properties of the category SWQOS (S$\^$U/WQOS, S$\^$L/WQOS, resp) of (upper, lower, resp.) semi-continuous quasi-ordered spaces and the subcategory SWPOS (S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS, resp.) of (upper, lower, resp.) semicontinuous partially ordered spaces. We show that the categories S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS and SWPOS are closed under the formation of initial mono-sources in the category TQOS of topological quasi-ordered spaces, and they we mono-topological, complete and cocomplete epireflective subcategories of the category TQOS. We obtain their MacNeille and universal initial completions, as well as those of subcatego.ies S$\^$U/WQOS(S$\^$L/WQOS) and SWQOS, in which the topologies are T$\_$0/ and T$_1$, respectively.

Hypersurfaces with quasi-integrable ( f, g, u, ʋ, λ) -structure of an odd-dimensional sphere

  • Let M be a complete and orientable hypersurface of an odd-dimensional sphere $S^{2n+1}$ with quasi-integrable $(f,\;g,\;u,\;{\nu},\;{\lambda})$ -structure. The purpose of the present paper is to prove the following two theorems. (I) If the scalar curvature of M is constant and the function $\lambda$ is not locally constant, then M is a great sphere $S^{2n}$(1) or a product of two spheres with the same dimension $S^{n}(1/\sqrt{2}){\times}S^{n}(1/\sqrt{2})$. (II) Suppose that the sectional curvature of the section $\gamma(u,\;{\nu})$ spanned by u and $\nu$ is constant on M and M is compact. If the second fundamental tensor H of M is positive semi-definite and satisfies trace $$^{t}HH{\leq_-}{2n}$$, then M is a great sphere $S^{2n}$ (1) or a product of two spheres $S^{n}{\times}S^{n}$ or $S^{p}{\times}S^{2n-p}$, p being odd.

Constitutive property behavior of an ultra-high-performance concrete with and without steel fibers

  • A laboratory investigation was conducted to characterize the constitutive property behavior of Cor-Tuf, an ultra-high-performance composite concrete. Mechanical property tests (hydrostatic compression, unconfined compression (UC), triaxial compression (TXC), unconfined direct pull (DP), uniaxial strain, and uniaxial-strain-load/constant-volumetric-strain tests) were performed on specimens prepared from concrete mixtures with and without steel fibers. From the UC and TXC test results, compression failure surfaces were developed for both sets of specimens. Both failure surfaces exhibited a continuous increase in maximum principal stress difference with increasing confining stress. The DP tests results determined the unconfined tensile strengths of the two mixtures. The tensile strength of each mixture was less than the generally assumed tensile strength for conventional strength concrete, which is 10 percent of the unconfined compressive strength. Both concretes behaved similarly, but Cor-Tuf with steel fibers exhibited slightly greater strength with increased confining pressure, and Cor-Tuf without steel fibers displayed slightly greater compressibility.

  • Let $B_1$ be a unit ball in $R^n(n{\geq}3)$, and $2^*=2n/(n-2)$ be the critical Sobolev exponent for the embedding $H_0^1(B_1){\hookrightarrow}L^{2^*}(B_1)$. By using a variant of Pohoz$\check{a}$aev's identity, we prove the nonexistence of nodal solutions for the Dirichlet problem $-{\Delta}u-{\mu}\frac{u}{{\mid}x{\mid}^2}={\lambda}u+{\mid}u{\mid}^{2^*-2}u$ in $B_1$, u=0 on ${\partial}B_1$ for suitable positive numbers ${\mu}$ and ${\nu}$.

Metrical Comparison of English Textbooks in East Asian Countries, the U.S.A. and U.K.

  • In 2000, the economy of Asia made a V-character type recovery from the currency and financial crisis in 1997. The increase in exports is assumed to be one of the causes. To negotiate with foreign countries, English must be indispensable in many cases. In this study, we investigated how English education is performed in East Asian countries while focusing on English textbooks. We metrically analyzed some textbooks used junior high schools and high school in Japan and Korea, and elementary schools in China and Singapore to compare them with U.S.A and U.K textbook. We investigated some characteristics of character-and word-appearance of English textbook using an exponential function. Moreover we derived the degree of difficulty far each material through the variety of words and their frequency on the basis of the required English vocabulary in Japanese junior high schools. As a result we could show at which level of U.S.A. or U.K the English textbooks used in East Asian countries are.

  • u-City(유비쿼터스 도시)는 첨단 정보통신 인프라와 유비쿼터스 정보서비스를 도시공간에 융합하여 도시생활의 편의 증대와 삶의 질 향상, 체계적 도시관리에 의한 안전보장과 시민복지 향상, 신산업 창출 등 도시의 제반기능을 혁신시킬 수 있는 차세대 정보화 도시를 의미한다. 이를 통해 도시거주민에게는 쾌적한 도시생활을 제공하고, 도시관리자에게는 효율적인 도시 운영을 통한 편리성을 제공할 것이다. 따라서, 국토의 균형있는 발전이 이루어지고 도시 거주민의 복지는 향상되어질 것이다. 또한 국가의 성장동력원으로 크게 기여할 것으로 기대되어 진다. 본 연구에서는 국내 u-City 산업 활성화를 위해 u-City 사업전개 방향, 사업자별 시장동향, 국내외 u-City 추진 현황과 추진정책방향 등을 살펴보고자 한다. 그리고, 이를 통한 통신사업자 관점에서 시사점을 도출하도록 한다. 또한, 향후 직면할 문제점들을 사전에 예방하고 대비하는 데 도움이 되고자 몇 가지 제언을 하고자 한다.

Improvement of concrete crack detection using Dilated U-Net based image inpainting technique (Dilated U-Net에 기반한 이미지 복원 기법을 이용한 콘크리트 균열 탐지 개선 방안)

  • 본 연구에서는 Dilated U-Net 기반의 이미지 복원기법을 통해 콘크리트 균열 추출 성능 개선 방안을 제안한다. 콘크리트 균열은 구조물의 미관상의 문제뿐 아니라 추후 큰 안전사고의 원인이 될 수 있어 초기대응이 중요하다. 현재는 점검자가 직접 육안으로 검사하는 외관 검사법이 주로 사용되고 있지만, 이는 정확성 및 비용, 시간, 그리고 안전성 면에서 한계를 갖고 있다. 이에 콘크리트 구조물 표면에 대해 획득한 영상 처리 기법을 사용한 검사 방식 도입의 관심이 늘어나고 있다. 또한, 딥러닝 기술의 발달로 딥러닝을 적용한 영상처리의 연구 역시 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 콘크리트 균열 추개선출 성능 개선을 위해 Dilated U-Net 기반의 이미지 복원기법을 적용하는 방안을 제안하였고 성능 검증 결과, 기존 U-Net 기반의 정확도가 98.78%, 조화평균 82.67%였던 것에 비해 정확도 99.199%, 조화평균 88.722%로 성능이 되었음을 확인하였다.

Feeding Stimulants and Feeding Preference of Haliotis discus Reeve (Jeju Island) to Marine Algae (제주도산 까막전복의 해조류 섭식선호도와 섭식자극물질)

  • Haliotis discus, a useful abalone of herbivorous gastropod, shows feeding preference to marine algae depending upon their growth stage and recognition of taste. This study was carried out to investigate this abalone's algal preferences and the presence of feeding stimulants. In single-choice experiments the small (S) group generally preferred Ulva pertusa (Chlorophyta), whereas the medium (M) and large (L) group preferred both Laminaria japonica (Phaeophyta) and Undaria pinnatifida (Phaeophyta). In multi-choice experiments using 4 algal species of L. japonica, U. pertusa, U. pinnatifida and Ecklonia cava (Phaeophyta), the results were same as in the single-choice experiments; the S group preferred U. pertusa the most, while the M and L group preferred both U. pinnatifida and L. japonica. However E. cava was not preferred by any groups. In order to examine the presence of feeding stimulant, chemical compounds from algae used as feed were isolated and identified. The abalone responded to water soluble matters of L. japonica, U. pinnatifida and U. pertusa, but those of E. cava and Sargassum sagamianum (Phaeophyta) were not attractive to them. In feeding stimulant experiments using fat soluble matters, the S group preferred the fat soluble matter of U. pertusa the most, while the M group and the L group preferred those of U. pertusa and U. pinnatifida, and those of L. japonica, respectively. However the fat soluble matter of S. sagamianum was not attractive to the abalone. The results of feeding stimulant experiments were same as those of single-choice or multi-choice experiments, which showed that compound lipids in fat soluble matter might act as feeding-stimulant.

Morphology of middle cerebral artery using computed tomography angiographic study in a tertiary care hospital

  • Increased tortuosity of vessel is associated with high incidence of plaque formation leading to atherosclerosis. Surgical procedures are done after analyzing morphology of middle cerebral artery (MCA). However, literature describing MCA morphology using computed tomography angiography (CTA) is limited, so this study was planned to determine its incidence in Indian population. Datasets of CTA from 289 patients (180 males and 109 females), average age: 49.29±16.16 years (range: 11 to 85 years), from a tertiary care hospital were systematically reviewed for morphology of MCA. Cases involving aneurysms and infarcts were excluded. Four shapes of MCA were recognized: straight, U, inverted U, and S-shaped. MCA was straight in 44% (254/578), U-shaped in 37% (215/578), S shaped in 15% (89/578) and inverted U-shaped in 3% (20/578) cases. In males, MCA was straight in 46% (166/360), U-shaped in 37% (134/360), S-shaped in 16% (58/360) and inverted U-shaped in 4% (14/360) cases. In females, MCA was straight in 42% cases (92/218), U-shaped in 37% (81/218), S-shaped in 17% (36/218) and inverted U-shaped in 4% (9/218). On comparing shape with various age groups using chi square test, U shaped (P≤0.001) and S-shaped (P=0.003) MCA were found to be statistically significant. The incidence of straight shape was higher in advanced age group (>60 years). Knowledge of MCA shape will be useful for clinicians and surgeons in successful endovascular recanalization. Also, this data would help surgeons during neurointerventional procedures.

Characterization and function of human Ly-6/uPAR molecules

  • Human Ly-6/uPAR molecules are a superfamily composed of two subfamilies; one is the membrane bound proteins with a GPI-anchor and the other are secreted proteins without the GPI-anchor. Ly-6/uPAR molecules have remarkable amino acid homology through a distinctive 8-10 cysteine-rich domain that is associated predominantly with O-linked glycans. These molecules are encoded by multiple tightly linked genes located on Chr. 8q23, and have a conserved genomic organization. Ly-6/uPAR molecules have an interesting expression pattern during hematopoiesis and on specific tumors indicating that Ly-6/uPAR molecules are associated with development of the immune system and carcinogenesis. Thus, Ly-6/uPAR molecules are useful antigens for diagnostic and therapeutic targets. This review summarizes our understanding of human Ly-6/uPAR molecules with regard to molecular structure as well as what is known about their function in normal and malignant tissues and suggest Ly-6/uPAR molecules as target antigens for cancer immunotherapy.
