The thermal performance of storage brick, containing microencapsulated PCM(phase change material), was investigated for utilization as a floor heating system. Sodium acetate trihydrate($CH_3COONa{\cdot}3H_2O$) was selected for the PCM and was encapsulated. The thermal storage brick was manufactured with mixing cement mortar having 10%, 20% PCM contents, respectively. Four different flow rates and three different cooling temperatures was used in this work for analyzing the heat charging and discharging characteristics of the thermal storage brick. The result showed that cycle time was shortened as the PCM content was increased and as the mass flow rate was increased. The same effect was obtained when the cooling temperature was decreased. For each thermal storage brick the overall heat transfer coefficient(U-value) was constant for a 0% brick, but was increased with time for the bricks containing microencapsulated PCM.
Chromosomal gene transferable hybrid plasmids, RP4::Mu cts and RP4::mini-Mu, were transferred by conjugation from E. coli to Pseudomonas strains. In order to use for recipient cells of RP4::Mu cts and RP4:: mini-Mu, plasmid-free Pseudomonas strains were characterized for their antobiotic resistance, aromatic hydrocarbon utility and degradation patterns of chlorinated herbicide. Transfer frequencies of RP4::mini-Mu exhibited about $10^{-2}$ to $10^{-4}$, while those of RP4::Mu cts exhibited very low value of $10^{-7}$ in recipients tested except Pseudomonas aeruginosa KU557. Existance of hybrid plasmids in Pseudomonas transconjugants were identified by their antibiotic resistance and agarose gel electrophoresis. In case of RP4::Mu cts transconjugants it was also confirmed by demonstrating that they were capable of releasing phage and forming plaques at $43^{\circ}C$. Plaque forming unit of the transconjugants was about $10^{5}$. It was shown by the stability test that RP4::Mu cts and RP4::mini-Mu in Pseudomonas were relatively stable.
To elucidate enzymatic properties of a-glactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22) from Asp. niger, a-galactosidase from wheat bran culture was purified by ammonium sulfate fractionation, ion exchange chromatography and gel filtration. And then its enzymatic propeties were investigated. The highest level of $\alpha$-galactosidase activity was obtained when Asp. niger was grown on wheat bran medium at $30^{\circ}C$ for 96 hours. The $\alpha$-galactosidase was purified by 23.7 fold by ammonium sulfate fractionation, ion exchange chromatography on DEAE-Celluose and Sephadex A-50, and gel filtration on Sephadex G-150 and its specific activity was 1,229 Unitslmg protein and the yield was 14% of the total activity of wheat bran culture. The purified $\alpha$-galactosidase was found to be homogeneous by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and HPLC. The $\alpha$-galactosidase was a tetrameric glycoprotein which consisted of identical subunits with molelcular weight of 28,000 each by SDS-PAGE and isoelectric point was determined analytical isoelectric focusing to be pH 4.6. The optimal temperature and pH for the $\alpha$-galactosidase activity were $40^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.5, respectively, and 54% of its activity was lost by heating at $60^{\circ}C$ for 10 mins, It was appeared to have higher affinty to raffinose than to stachyose. The K, value and activation energy of $\alpha$-galactosidase were 5.0 mM and 8.515 Kcal per mole for p-nitrophenyl- $\alpha$--D-galactopyranoside, respectively.
A 20.9-kDa metalloprotease was isolated from dried fruiting bodies of the wild basidiomycete mushroom Lepista nuda. The N-terminal amino acid sequence of the protease was seen to be ATFVLTAATNTLFTA, thus displaying no similarity with the sequences of previously reported metalloproteases. The protease was purified using a procedure that entailed ion-exchange chromatography on CM-Cellulose, Q-Sepharose, and Mono S, and FPLC-gel filtration on Superdex 75. The protease functioned at an optimum pH of 7.0 and an optimum temperature of $50^{\circ}C$. It was also noted that the protease demonstrated a proteolytic activity of 1,756 U/mg toward casein. The $K_m$ of the purified protease toward casein was 6.36 mg/ml at a pH of 7.0 and with a temperature of $37^{\circ}C$, whereas the $V_{max}$ was 9.11 ${\mu}g\;ml^{-1}\;min^{-1}$. The activity of the protease was adversely affected by EDTA-2Na, suggesting that it is a metalloprotease. PMSF, EGTA, aprotinin, and leupeptin exerted no striking inhibitory effect. The activity of the protease was enhanced by $Fe^{2+}$, but was curtailed by $Cd^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, and $Fe^{2+}$ ions. The protease also exhibited inhibitory activity against HIV-1 reverse transcriptase with an $IC_{50}$ value of 4.00 ${\mu}M$. The $IC_{50}$ values toward hepatoma Hep G2 and leukemia L1210 cells in vitro were 4.99 ${\mu}M$ and 3.67 ${\mu}M$, respectively.

Six nonpathogenic fungal strains isolated from alkaline soils of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina (Acremonium murorum, Aspergillus sidowii, Cladosporium cladosporoides, Neurospora tetrasperma, Purpureocillium lilacinum (formerly Paecilomyces lilacinus), and Westerdikella dispersa) were tested for their ability to produce keratinolytic enzymes. Strains were grown on feather meal agar as well as in solid-state and submerged cultures, using a basal mineral medium and "hair waste" as sole sources of carbon and nitrogen. All the tested fungi grew on feather meal agar, but only three of them were capable of hydrolyzing keratin, producing clear zones. Among these strains, P. lilacinum produced the highest proteolytic and keratinolytic activities, both in solid-state and submerged fermentations. The medium composition and culture conditions for the keratinases production by P. lilacinum were optimized. Addition of glucose (5 g/l) and yeast extract (2.23 g/l) to the basal hair medium increased keratinases production. The optimum temperature and initial pH for the enzyme production were $28^{\circ}C$ and 6.0, respectively. A beneficial effect was observed when the original concentration of four metal ions, present in the basal mineral medium, was reduced up to 1:10. The maximum yield of the enzyme was 15.96 $U_c/ml$ in the optimal hair medium; this value was about 6.5-fold higher than the yield in the basal hair medium. These results suggest that keratinases from P. lilacinum can be useful for biotechnological purposes such as biodegradation (or bioconversion) of hair waste, leading to a reduction of the environmental pollution caused by leather technology with the concomitant production of proteolytic enzymes and protein hydrolyzates.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the curing effect of visible light through tooth substance, 0.5mm, 1.0mm thickness of enamel and dentin were prepared. Experimental specimen were made by Bisfil M & Silux packing into cylindrical brass mold 6.0mm in diameter, 2.0mm and 3.0mm, in height. All specimen were irradiated by visible light (Grip type) model No. SDL-50 Shofu Co.) for 30 seconds through tooth substance. Experimental groups were classified into enamel group (group 1) and dentin group (group 2) according to the thickness of tooth materials and then were divided into 2 subgroups (0.5mm group and 1.0mm group). In experimental groups, visible light irradiated to the specimen through either 0.5mm in thick or 1.0mm in think of tooth material. In Control group specimen were prepared by direct irradiation on the specimen surface of visible light without through tooth substance. The hardness was measured with a Barcol hardness tester (Barber-Colman Co. U.S.A.) for each prepared specimen. The results were as follows: 1. In control group, there were higher hardness values than those of in experimental group. 2. In experimental groups, 0.5mm groups had higher hardness values than 1.0mm groups did. 3. The hardness value at top surface of the specimen were higher than the hardness of bottom surface in each group. 4. Bisfil M had higher hardness values than Silux. 5. In all specimen of 3.0mm height polymerization effect was not occurred at bottom surface except Bisfil M in control group.
The physicochemical properties of Korean glutinous rice was compared with those of foreign one in order to investigate their appropriateness as raw materials for making rice-cake. The results are summarized as follows: 1) It was found that the Korean ed more crude protein and less total sugar than the foreign one. Therefore, the Korean variety appears to have a higher value of protein. 2) The Korean glutinous rice appeared more plentiful in crude fat and crude fibre content than those of the foreign one. Judging from this fact, it was found out that the Korean glutinous rice had a lower rate of husking and cleaning. 3) The purity of grain in Japanese glutinous rice was highest with 90.2% and the Kyungki glutinous rice was lowest with 47.4%. 4) While showing a low viscosity, the Honam glutinous rice, strange enough, also showed a low dextrinizing temperature.

Using the computer programs for calculation of natural vibrations of ship's hull developed by the authors et al., an investigation into influences of various parameters on the accuracy of calculation was done through example calculations of a 30,000 DWT petroleum products carrier M/S Sweet Brier built by Korea Shipbuilding and Engineering Corporation. The methodical principles employed for the computer program development are as follows; (a) the ship system is reduced to an equivalent discrete elements system conforming to Myklestad-Prohl model, (b) the problem formulation is of transfer matrix method, and (c) to obtain solutions an extended $G\ddot{u}mbel's$ initial value method is introduced. The scope of the investigation is influences of number of discrete elements, choice of significant system parameters such as rotary inertia, bending stiffness and shear stiffness, and simplification of distributions of added mass and stiffness as trapezoidal ones referred to those of midship section on the calculation accuracy. From the investigation the followings are found out; (1) To obtain good results for the modes up to the seven-noded thirty or more divisions of the hull is desirable. For fundamental mode fifteen divisions may give fairly good results. (2) The influence of rotary inertia is negligibly small at least for the modes up to the 5- or 6- noded. (3) In the case of assuming either bending modes or shear modes the calculation results in considerably higher frequencies as compared with those based on Timoshenko beam theory. However, the calculation base on the slender beam theory surprisingly gives frequencies within 10% error for fundamental modes. (4) It is proved that to simplify distributions of added mass and stiffness as trapezoidal ones referred to those of midship section is a promising approach for the prediction of natural frequencies at preliminary design stage; provided good accumulation of data from similar type ships, we may expect to obtain natural frequencies within 5% error.
Serratia sp. Y-4 was isolated from soil. Many characteristics of the strain and optimum cultivation condition for protease production were investigated.,The protease from Serratia sp. Y-4 was purified and studied for the properties of the enzyme. The isolated strain was identified to the genus Serratia. The strain was cultivated in 1%-casein, 0.5%-Na$_{3}$PO$_{4}$.7H$_{2}$O, 0.1%-NaCl, 0.05%-KCI, 0.02%-MgSO$_{4}$.7H$_{2}$O, 0.02%-CaCl$_{2}$.2H$_{2}$O, 0.02%-ZnSO$_{4}$.7H$_{2}$O, 0.02%-MnCl$_{2}$.4H$_{2}$O and 0.5%-soy bean oil at pH 7.0 for 35 hrs. The enzyme was purified about 5.89 fold from the culture broth with 31.1% recovery and 19,613 u/mg through ultrafiltration, ammonium sulfate, DEAE-sephacel and Superose-12 chromatography. The purified enzyme was identified as one band by isoelectric focusing, SDS- and native-PAGE. It has maxium activity at $37^{\circ}C$ and pH 9.0. Molecular weight of it is approx. 50 kD and pl is about 6.70. Its Km value for casein was 20 mg/ml. 5 mM-EDTA, 5mM-SDS, Ag$^{+1}$, Cu$^{+2}$, Hg$^{+2}$ and Pb$^{+2}$ inhibited the enzyme.

A silicon-gate n-well CMOS process with 3 $\mu$m gate length was developed and its possibility for the applications was discussed,. Threshold voltage was easily controlled by ion implantation and 3-$\mu$m gate length with 650 $\AA$ oxide shows ignorable short channel effect. Large value of Al-n+ contact resistance is one of the problems in fabrications of VLSI circuits. Transfer characteristics of CMOS inverter is fairly good and the propagation delay time per stage in ring oscillator with layout of (W/L) PMOS /(W/L) NMOS =(10/5)/(5/5) is about 3.4 nsec. catch-up occurs on substrate current of 3-5 mA in this process and critically dependent on the well doping density and nt-source to n-well space. Therefore, research, more on latch-up characteristics as a function of n-well profile and design rule, especially n+-source to n-well space, is required.
