  • Mechanical testing methods to determine the material constants for large deformation nonlinear finite element analysis were demonstrated for natural rubber. Uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression, equi-biaxial tension and pure shear tests of rubber specimens are performed to achieve the stress-strain curves. The stress-strain curves are obtained after between 5 and 10 cycles to consider the Mullins effect. Mooney and Ogden strain-energy density functions, which are typical form of the hyperelastic material, are determined and compared with each other. The material constants using only uniaxial tension data are about 20% higher than those obtained by any other test data set. The experimental equations of shear elastic modulus on the hardness and maximum strain are presented using multiple regression method. Large deformation finite element analysis of automotive transmission mount using different material constants is performed and the load-displacement curves are compared with experiments. The selection of material constant in large deformation finite element analysis depend on the strain level of component in service.

  • Pulse-mode performance evaluation is made for a set of monopropellant hydrazine thrusters producing $0.95 lb_{f}$ of nominal steady-state thrust at an inlet pressure of 350 psia. With a brief description on the hot-firing test matrix, a typical data obtained from pulse-mode firing is given directly showing the variational behavior of propellant supply pressure, vacuum condition, and thrust, in addition to the thermal response of the thruster. The performance features are successfully compared to the reference criteria of 1-lbf standard monopropellant rocket engine.

  • In this paper, we propose a high voltage driver IC(HVIC) for LCD and PDP TV power supply. The proposed circuit is included novel a shoot-through protection and a pulse generation circuit for the high voltage driver IC. The proposed circuit has lower variation of dead time and pulse-width about a variation of a process and a supply voltage than a conventional circuit. Especially, the proposed circuit has more excellent pulse-width matching of set and reset signals than the conventional circuit. Also the proposed pulse generation circuit prevent from fault operations using a logic gate. Dead time and pulse-width of the proposed circuit are typical 250 ns, and its variation is maximum 170 ns(68 %) about a variation of a process and a supply voltage. The proposed circuit is designed using $1\;{\mu}m$ 650 V BCD process parameter, and a simulation is carried out using Spectre.

  • Five pepper-infecting potyviruses, Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV), Chilli veinal mottle virus (CVMV), Pepper veinal mottle virus (PVMV), Pepper severe mosaic virus (PSMV) and Tobacco each virus (TEV), are known filamentous virus and can be infected pepper crops systemically. To understand pathology and genome information of the five viruses on pepper plants, host reactions and sequences were compared to the 5 viruses. Five potyviruses were inoculated onto some typical cultivars of hot peppers and compared their symptoms, and virus accumulations. A set of degenerate primers for potyviruses were applied to 5 viruses and RT-PCR was performed. RT-PCR products containing partial nuclear inclusion b and coat protein (CP) genes were cloned. Then, oligo dT primer and species-specific primer were redesigned to amplify the C-terminal part of CP and 3' noncoding regions of each viruses. Sequences of the viruses were analyzed and compared to serological relationships among the viruses. The data can be useful for screening of potyviruses in pepper plants and pathogen-derived transgenic pepper plant development.

  • We present the optical design and a sensitivity analysis for a wide field of view (FOV) instrument operating at UV and IR wavelengths. The ongoing investigation is performed in collaboration with Omnisys Instruments (Sweden) and focuses on a telluric-limb-viewing instrument that will fly in a low Earth orbit to study mesospheric wave structures over a wide range of horizontal scales in the altitude range 80 - 100 km. The instrument has six wavelength channels which consist of 4 channels of IR and 2 of UV. We are proposing an optical design based on three mirror aplanatic off-axis reflective system. The entrance pupil diameter and effective focal length are 45 mm and 270 mm, respectively. The FOV is $5.5^{\circ}{\times}1^{\circ}$ and the secondary mirror is set for stop. The optical specification is required to have an encircled energy of at least 80 % within a diameter of 21 um. We performed sensitivity analysis for the longest wavelength of 772 nm in consideration of the diffraction limit of system. The results show that tolerance limits for positions and angles of the mirrors are not very sensitive compared with typical error budgets of manufacturing and assembling process. The secondary mirror has the most sensitive tolerance for surface figure of 250 nm in root-mean-square.

  • A social network is a typical social science environment with both network and iteration characteristics. This research presents a reaction analysis model of how each node responds to social networks when given input such as promotions or incentives. In addition, the setting value of a specific node is changed while examining the response of each node. And we try to understand the reactions of the nodes involved. The reaction analysis model is constructed by applying various techniques such as unidirectional, fuzzy set, weighting, and cyclic feedback, so it can accommodate the complicated environment of practice. Finally, the implementation model is implemented using Vensim rather than NetLogo because it requires repetitive input, change of setting value in real time, and analysis of association between nodes.

  • A fast response NO analyzer was applied to investigate the relation between cycle-by-cycle NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure. NO emissions were sampled at an isolated exhaust manifold of 4-stroke spark ignition engine to avoid the interference of exhaust gas from other cylinders. The linear correlation analysis was performed with collected data of NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure with respect to the various air-fuel mixture ratios and engine loads. The sampled data sets were obtained during 200 cycles at each operating condition. The results showed that there was a typical pattern in NO emissions from an exhaust port through a cycle. It was possible to set a block of crank angle in which the linear correlation coefficient between NO emissions and combustion chamber pressure was high. As the engine load increased, NO emissions were more dependent on combustion chamber pressure after TDC. It was also analyzed that the correlation between two parameters with respect to air-fuel mixture ratio tended to increase as mixture went leaner. Furthermore, this correlation coefficient for the mixture near the lean limit seemed to be kept high even though combustion was unstable.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the strategies for problem solving used by teachers and students and obtain some information which would be useful to enhance the ability of problem solving of the students. For this purpose we apply the thinking aloud method to study 6 graders and 6 teachers who were asked to solve 5 word problems. And we create a coding system to analyze those strategies. Using this coding system, we code the examinees and problems. we come up with the following facts from our study. (1) The number of strategies used by teachers is less than that used by students. (2) The characteristic of the strategies used by students is to set up an equation. (3) There is deep relationship between understanding the question and choosing the successful strategies for problem solving. (4) The students use the inductive argument more often than the teachers in the case of nonroutine mathematical problem. (5) The student of high success rate have fewer strategies than the others. From the above facts. it proposes the following conclusion for the enhancement of the ability of problem solving: So far the teachers usually use a few typical strategies for problem solving. But they need to create various strategies for pqoblem solving. It makes it possible for the students to choose proper strategies according to their ability. The students need to be given nicely constructed problem with enough time.

  • A two-dimensional depth-integrated hydrodynamic and a depth-averaged passive scalar transport models were developed by using a Compact Finite Volume Method (CFVM) which can assure a higher order accuracy. A typical wave current interaction experimental data set was compared with the computed results by the proposed CFVM model, and resonable agreements were observed from the comparisons. One and two dimensional scalar advection tests were conducted, and very close agreements were observed with very little numerical diffusion. Finally, a turbulent mixing simulation was done in an open channel flow, and a reasonable similarity with LES data was observed.

  • We presented a method for Vad(Voice Activity Detection) using Bi-level HMM. Conventional methods need to do an additional post processing or set rule-based delayed frames. To cope with the problem, we applied to VAD a Bi-level HMM that has an inserted state layer into a typical HMM. And we used posterior ratio of voice states to detect voice period. Considering MFCCs(: Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients) as observation vectors, we performed some experiments with voice data of different SNRs and achieved satisfactory results compared with well-known methods.
