The eastern coast of Seopo-myeon, Sancheon-si in the South Coast is a bay almost completely separated from open sea by Changseon and Namhae Islands. Marine terraces in this area can be classified into geomorphic surfaces with elevations of 10~12m, 15~18m, 20~24m, 25~28m, 30~33m, 35~38m, 40~45m, 45~50m and 54m. This marine terrace system is similar to the Boryeong area in the West Coast. The geomorphic surfaces distribute along ridges and show relatively small areas. The young and old surfaces show a mixed distributional pattern. This distributional pattern contrasts to the East Coast where the oldest surface farthest from the coastline is parallel to the coast and age of the surfaces increases with a distance from the coast. These seem to result in high energy waves by typhoon that developed wave-cut platform on hill areas with relatively complex relief in a short time.

A continuous monitoring of sedimentation rate and textural characteristics of surface sediments was carried out on the tidal flats in Kwangyang Bay, middle South Sea for two years on an every-two-monthly basis. This study shows that during the winter the tidal flats receive a thin surface layer of which texture becomes finer. In summer, the surface sediments were subject to rather abrupt erosion by occational typhoons and heavy rainfall resulting in a coarse-silt dominated texture. Due to nearly closed geomorphology of Kwangyang Bay, local waves created in the bay during winter are much subdued, in contrast to the rough wave climate and associated sedimentary cycle for open-type tidal flats in the Yellow Sea. In addition, unexpected artificial effects on the tidal-flat sedimentation by construction of a huge industrial complex along the shoreline of the bay are observed from a nearby tidal flat. Here, the sediments were consistently eroded without any sign of natural seasonal variations.

Recently, flood damages have increased with heavy rainfall and typhoon influences, and it requires that visualization information to the flood inundation area of downstream in dam discharge. This study developed 3D GIS system that can visualize flood inundation area for Namgang Dam downstream. First, DEMs extracted from NGIS digital maps and IKONOS satellite images were optimized to mount in iWorld engine using TextureMaker and HeightMaker modules. And flood inundation area of downstream could be efficiently extracted with real-time flooding water level using Coordinate Operation System for Flood control In Multi-reservoir (COSFIM) and Flood Wave routing model (FLDWAV) in river cross section. This visualization information of flood inundation area can be used to examine flood weakness district needed in real time Dam operation and be applied to establish the rapid flood disaster countermeasures efficiently.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the availability of dual-polarization radar rain for flood routing in Chungju Dam watershed($6,625.8km^2$) using KIMSTORM (Grid-based KIneMatic wave STOrm Runoff Model). The Sobaek dual-polarization radar data for 1 heavy rain and 3 typhoon(Khanun, Bolaven, and Sanba) events in 2012 were obtained from Han River Flood Control Office. The spatio-temporal patterns between the two data were similar showing the ratio of radar rain to ground rain with 0.97. The KIMSTORM was set to $500{\times}500m$ resolution and a total of 45,738 cells(198 rows${\times}$231 columns) for the watershed. For radar rain and 41 ground rains, the model was independently calibrated using discharge data at 3 streamflow gauging stations(YW1, YC, and CJD) with coefficient of determination($R^2$), Nash and Sutcliffe Model Efficiency(ME), and Volume Conservation Index(VCI). The $R^2$, ME, and VCI 0.80, 0.62 and 1.08 for radar rain and 0.83, 0.68 and 1.10 for ground rain respectively.

The distributed rainfall-runoff model which is developed in the country requires a lot of time and effort to generate input data. Also, it takes a lot of time to calculate discharge by numerical analysis based on kinematic wave theory in runoff process. Therefore, most river basins using the distributed model are of limited scale, such as small river basins. However, recently, the necessity of integrated watershed management has been increasing due to change of watershed management concept and discharge calculation of whole river basin, including upstream and downstream of dam. Thus, in this study, the feasibility of the GIS based physical distributed rainfall-runoff model, K-DRUM(K-water hydrologic & hydraulic Distributed RUnoff Model) which has been developed by own technology was reviewed in the flood discharge process for the Geum River basin, including Yongdam and Daecheong Dam Watersheds. GIS hydrological parameters were extracted from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map, and used as input data of the model. Problems in running time and inaccuracy setting using the existing trial and error method were solved by applying an auto calibration method in setting initial soil moisture conditions. The accuracy of discharge analysis for application of the method was evaluated using VER, QER and Total Error in case of the typhoon 'Ewiniar' event. and the calculation results shows a good agreement with observed data.

This study performed to simulate the watershed storm runoff using data of S-band dual-polarization radar rain, GPM (Global Precipitation Mission) satellite rain, and observed rainfall at 21 ground stations operated by KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) respectively. For the 3 water level gauge stations (Sancheong, Changchon, and Namgang) of NamgangDam watershed ($2,293km^2$), the KIMSTORM2 (KIneMatic wave STOrm Runoff Model2) was applied and calibrated with parameters of initial soil moisture contents, Manning's roughness of overland and stream to the event of typhoon CHABA (82 mm in watershed aveprage) in $5^{th}$ October 2016. The radar and GPM data was corrected with CM (Conditional Merging) method such as CM-corrected Radar and CM-corrected GPM. The CM has been used for accurate rainfall estimation in water resources and meteorological field and the method combined measured ground rainfall and spatial data such as radar and satellite images by the kriging interpolation technique. For the CM-corrected Radar and CM-corrected GPM data application, the determination coefficient ($R^2$) was 0.96 respectively. The Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) was 0.96 and the Volume Conservation Index (VCI) was 1.03 respectively. The CM-corrected data of Radar and GPM showed good results for the CHABA peak runoff and runoff volume simulation and improved all of $R^2$, NSE, and VCI comparing with the original data application. Thus, we need to use and apply the radar and satellite data to monitor the flood within the watershed.

To evaluate the causes of beach erosion in Sinji-Myeongsasimni Beach, external forces, such as tides, tidal currents, and waves, were observed seasonally from March 2019 to March 2020, and the surface sediments were analyzed for this period. In addition, the shoreline positions and beach elevations were regularly surveyed with a VRS GPS and fixed-wing drone. From these field data, the speed of the tidal currents was noted to be insufficient, but the waves were observed to af ect the deformation of the beach. As the beach is open to the southern direction, waves of heights over 1 m were received in the S-SE direction during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Large waves with heights over 2 m were observed during typhoons in summer and fall. Because of the absence of typhoons for the previous two years from July 2018, the beach area over datum level (DL) as of July 2018 was greater by 30,138m2 compared with that of March 2019, and the beach area as of March 2020 decreased by 61,210m2 compared with that of March 2019 because of four typhoon attacks after July 2018. The beach volume as of March 2019 decreased by 5.4% compared with that of July 2018 owing to two typhoons, and the beach volume as of September 2019 decreased by 7.3% because of two typhoons during the observation year. However, the volume recovered slightly by about 3% during fall and winter, when there were no high waves. According to the sediment transport vectors by GSTA, the sediments were weakly influxed from small streams located at the center of the beach; the movement vectors were not noticeable at the west beach site, but the westward sediment transport under the water and seaward vectors from the foreshore beach were prominently observed at the east beach site. These patterns of westward sediment vectors could be explained by the angle between the annual mean incident wave direction and beach opening direction. This angle was inclined 24° counterclockwise with the west-east direction. Therefore, the westward wave-induced currents developed strongly during the large-wave seasons. Hence, the sand content is high in the west-side beach but the east-side beach has been eroded seriously, where the pebbles are exposed and sand dune has decreased because of the lack of sand sources except for the soiled dunes. Therefore, it is proposed that efforts for creating new sediment sources, such as beach nourishment and reducing wave heights via submerged breakwaters, be undertaken for the eastside of the beach.
It is well-known that loop effect of the stage-discharge relationship is formulated based on many field observations especially for the sand rivers. Theoretical understandings of the loop effect for the sand rivers have been widely provided, based on the facts that it is driven by the flood wave propagation and bed form changes over the given flood period. However, very few theoretical studies or field observations associated with loop-rating curves in the gravel or rock-bed mountain streams have been attempted so far, due particularly to the difficulties in the accurate discharge measurement during the flood in such field conditions. The present paper aims to report a unique loop-rating curve measured at a gravel and rock-bed mountain stream based on the flood discharge observation acquired during the typhoon, Muifa that passed nearby Jeju Island in summer of 2011. As velocity instrumentation, a non-intrusive Surface Velocity Doppler Radar to be suitable for the flood discharge measurement was utilized, and discharges were consecutively measured for every hour. Interestingly, the authors found that the hysteresis of the loop-rating curve was adverse compared to the typical trend of the sand bed streams, which means that the discharge of the rising limb is smaller than the falling limb at the same stage. We carefully speculate that the adverse trend of the loop-rating curve in the gravel bed was caused by the bed resistance change that works differently from the sand bed case.
