In this paper, a method for detecting broken rotor bar and stator winding fault in a low voltage squirrel-case induction motor using an air-gap flux variation analysis is proposed to develop a simple and low cost diagnosis technique. To measure the leakage flux in radial direction, a radial flux sensor is designed as a search coil and installed between stator slots. The proposed method is able to identify two kinds of motor faults by calculating load condition of motors and monitoring abnormal signals those are related with motor faults. Experimental results obtained on 7.5kW three-phase squirrel-cage induction motors are discussed to verify the performance of the proposed method.
In this paper, we present a two-phase shallow semantic parsing method based on a maximum entropy model. The first phase is to recognize semantic arguments, i.e., argument identification. The second phase is to assign appropriate semantic roles to the recognized arguments, i.e., argument classification. Here, the performance of the first phase is crucial for the success of the entire system, because the second phase is performed on the regions recognized at the identification stage. In order to improve performances of the argument identification, we incorporate syntactic knowledge into its pre-processing step. More precisely, boundaries of the immediate clause and the upper clauses of a predicate obtained from clause identification are utilized for reducing the search space. Further, the distance on parse trees from the parent node of a predicate to the parent node of a parse constituent is exploited. Experimental results show that incorporation of syntactic knowledge and the separation of argument identification from the entire procedure enhance performances of the shallow semantic parsing system.
This paper presents an application of an artificial neural net to the implementation of decision class analysis (DCA), together with the generation of a decision model influence diagram. The diagram is well-known as a good tool for knowledge representation of complex decision problems. Generating influence diagram model is known to in practice require much time and effort, and the resulting model can be generally applicable to only a specific decision problem. In order to reduce the burden of modeling decision problems, the concept of DCA is introduced. DCA treats a set of decision problems having some degree of similarityz as a single unit. We propose a method utilizing a feedforward neural net with supervised learning rule to develop DCA based on influence diagram, which method consists of two phases: Phase l is to search for relevant chance and value nodes of an individual influence diagram from given decision and specific situations and Phase II elicits arcs among the nodes in the diagram. We also examine the results of neural net simulation with an example of a class of decision problems.

Alert-confirm detection is a highly efficient method to improve phased array radar search performance. It comprises sequential detection in two steps: alert detection, in which a target is detected at a low detection threshold, and confirm detection, which is triggered by alert detection with a longer dwell time to minimize false alarms. This paper provides a design method for applying the alert-confirm detection to multifunctional radars. We find optimum dwell times and false alarm probabilities for each alert detection and confirm detection under the dual constraints of total false alarm probability and maximum allowable dwell time per position. These optimum values are expressed as a function of the mean new target appearance rate. The proposed alert-confirm detection increases the maximum detection range even with a shorter frame time than that of uniform scanning.

The algorithm Proposed utilizes the two-levels technique. In the first level which consists of two phases, the cross-sectional area of the truss member is optimized by transforming the nonlinear problem into SUMT, and solving SUMT utilizing the modified Newton-Rahson method. In the second level, the geometric shape is optimized utilizing the unindirectional search technique of the Powell method which make it possible to minimize only the objective function. The algorithm Proposed in this study is numerically tested for several truss structures with various shapes, loading conditions and design criteria, and compared with the results of the other algorithms to examine its applicability and stability. The numerical comparisons show that the two-Levels algorithm Proposed in this study is safely applicable to any design criteria, and the convergency rate is relathely fast and stable compared with other iteration methods for the geometric optimization of truss structures.

In this paper, we have identified the system instability factors in a bistatic radar system using pulse chasing and considered their effects on the bistatic receiver's MTI(Moving Target Indication) improvement performance. The pulse chasing is a method to efficiently scan a restricted search area within the limited transmitter power and time in a bistatic radar and to track a series of transmitted pulses using the receiver beam which has ideally matched to the pulse propagation rate. In this paper, we have discussed the interrelationship between the pulse chasing and time and frequency/phase synchronization and described the effects of the identified system instability factors on two kinds of MTI filter configuration, single delay-line and double delay-line, in the bistatic radar. And also, we have confirmed that the overall system improvement is restricted by a lower improvement factor among identified them, and discussed the allowable tolerance of the time and frequency/phase synchronization in the bistatic system.
As respecting one's privacy becomes an important issue in mobile device data analysis, on-device analysis is getting attention, in which the data analysis is conducted inside a mobile device without sending data from the device to outside. One possible application of the on-device analysis is gender prediction using text data in mobile devices, such as text messages, search keyword, website bookmarks, and contact, which are highly private, and the limited computing power of mobile devices can be addressed by utilizing the word comparison method, where words are selected beforehand and delivered to a mobile device of a user to determine the user's gender by matching mobile text data and the selected words. Moreover, it is known that performing prediction after filtering instances using definite evidences increases accuracy and reduces computational complexity. In this regard, we propose a two-phase approach to on-device gender prediction, where both discriminability and popularity of a word are sequentially considered. The proposed method performs predictions using a few highly discriminative words for all instances and popular words for unclassified instances from the previous prediction. From the experiments conducted on real-world dataset, the proposed method outperformed the compared methods.
Background: The aim of this systematic review was to investigate whether stem cells could be effectively applied in targeted therapy of breast cancer. Material and Method: A systematic literature search was performed for original articles published from January 2007 until May 2012. Results: Nine studies met the inclusion criteria for phase I or II clinical trials, of which three used stem cells as vehicles, two trials used autologous hematopoetic stem cells and in four trials cancer stem cells were targeted. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were applied as cellular vehicles to transfer therapeutic agents. Cell therapy with MSC can successfully target resistant cancers. Cancer stem cells were selectively targeted via a proteasome-dependent suicide gene leading to tumor regression. $Wnt/{\beta}$-catenin signaling pathway has been also evidenced to be an attractive CSC-target. Conclusions: This systematic review focused on two different concepts of stem cells and breast cancer marking a turning point in the trials that applied stem cells as cellular vehicles for targeted delivery therapy as well as CSC-targeted therapies. Applying stem cells as targeted therapy could be an effective therapeutic approach for treatment of breast cancer in the clinic and in therapeutic marketing; however this needs to be confirmed with further clinical investigations.
Generally, the network topology design problem is characterized as a kind of NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, which is difficult to solve with the classical method because it has exponentially increasing complexity with the augmented network size. In this paper, we propose the efficient approach with two phase that is comprised of evolutionary computation approach based on Prufer number(PN), which can efficiently represent the spanning tree, and a heuristic method considering 2-connectivity, to solve the highly reliable network topology design problem minimizing the construction cost subject to network reliability: firstly, to find the spanning tree, genetic algorithm that is the most widely known type of evolutionary computation approach, is used; secondly, a heuristic method is employed, in order to search the optimal network topology based on the spanning tree obtained in the first Phase, considering 2-connectivity. Lastly, the performance of our approach is provided from the results of numerical examples.

Formulation of the geometric optimization for truss structures based on the elasticity theory turn out to be the nonlinear programming problem which has to deal with the Cross sectional area of the member and the coordinates of its nodes simultaneously. A few techniques have been proposed and adopted for the analysis of this nonlinear programming problem for the time being. These techniques, however, bear some limitations on truss shapes loading conditions and design criteria for the practical application to real structures. A generalized algorithm for the geometric optimization of the truss structures which can eliminate the above mentioned limitations, is developed in this study. The algorithm developed utilizes the two-phases technique. In the first phase, the cross sectional area of the truss member is optimized by transforming the nonlinear problem into SUMT, and solving SUMT utilizing the modified Newton-Raphson method. In the second phase, the geometric shape is optimized utilizing the unidirctional search technique of the Rosenbrock method which make it possible to minimize only the objective function. The algorithm developed in this study is numerically tested for several truss structures with various shapes, loading conditions and design criteria, and compared with the results of the other algorithms to examme its applicability and stability. The numerical comparisons show that the two-phases algorithm developed in this study is safely applicable to any design criteria, and the convergency rate is very fast and stable compared with other iteration methods for the geometric optimization of truss structures.
