  • In this paper, we suggest two-phase adaptive cluster sampling schemes. The main feature of the two-phase sampling is that the information collected in the first phase sample is utilized in the selection of the second phase sample. The conventional two-phase sampling is, however, not sufficient to increase efficiency when the population of interest is rare and clustered. In the proposed sampling scheme, the first phase sample is selected with adaptive cluster sampling procedure and the second phase sample is selected by PPSWR and $\pi$PS sampling. We investigate unbiased estimators of population total and their variance for the proposed sampling schemes respectively. Finally we compare these suggested sampling schemes using numerical examples .

  • Two phase sampling design is useful to increase estimation efficiency using deep stratification, improved non-response adjustment and reduced coverage bias. The same sampling units are commonly used for the first and the second phases in complex two-phase sampling design. In this paper we consider a sampling scheme where the first phase sampling units are clusters and the second phase sampling units are list samples. Using selected clusters in first phase requires that we list up elements in the selected clusters from the first phase and then use the list as a secondary sampling frame for the second phase sampling design. Then we select second phase samples from the listed sampling frame. We suggest an estimator based on the complex two-phase sampling design with different sampling units of each phase. Also the estimated variances of the estimator obtained by using classic and replication variance methods are considered and compared using simulation studies. For real data analysis, 2010 Korea Farm Household Economy Survey (KFHES) and 2011 Korea Agriculture Survey (KAS) are used.

  • The case which applies two-phase sampling to stratification and nonresponse problem, it is a poweful and effective technique. In this paper we study the calibration estimator and its variance estimator for the population total using two-phase sampling method according to the of auxiliary information for population and sample having strong correlation with an interested variable in unit nonresponse situation. The auxiliary information that available both at first-phase and second-phase sampling can be used to improve weights by the calibration procedure. A weight which corresponds to the product of sampling weights and response probability is calculated at each phase of sampling.

  • Two-Phase sampling, which was first introduced by Neyman (1938), has various applications in different forms. Variance estimation for two-phase sampling has been an important research topic because conventional variance estimators used in most softwares are not working. In this paper, we considered a variance estimation for two-phase sampling in which stratified two-stage cluster sampling designs are used in both phases. By defining a conditionally unbiased estimator of an approximate variance estimator, which is calculable when all elements in the first phase sample are observed, we propose an explicit form of variance estimator of the double expanded estimator for a two-phase sample. A small simulation study shows the proposed variance estimator has a negligible bias with small variance. The suggested variance estimator is also applicable to other linear estimators of the population total or mean if appropriate residuals are defined.

  • In this paper, we consider to the adjustment weighting procedure in the two phase sampling scheme. In general, the unit nonresponses may be occured in the final survey operation. When the unit nonresponse be generated in survey, it is able to use the auxiliary variable for estimating of interest variable. In this viewpoint, we use the two kinds level of auxiliary variable, $X_{1k}$ and $X_{2k}$ for the calibration procedure. We proprose the two-step Newton's method in the calibration estimation procedure for the two phase sampling.

  • In this paper we suggest the new calibration estimator, which is called to the recalibration estimator, and its variance estimator using two-phase sampling technique according to the auxiliary information having strong correlation with the variable of interest under the unit nonresponse. In this unit nonresponse situation, an available information may exists at the level of whole population or the first-phase sample. The proposed recalibration estimator derives from the first and second phase weights respectively.

  • This paper presents some chain ratio-type estimators for estimating finite population variance using two auxiliary variables in two phase sampling set up. The expressions for biases and mean squared errors of the suggested c1asses of estimators are given. Asymptotic optimum estimators(AOE's) in each class are identified with their approximate mean squared error formulae. The theoretical and empirical properties of the suggested classes of estimators are investigated. In the simulation study, we took a real dataset related to pulmonary disease available on the CD with the book by Rosner, (2005).

  • Variance estimation for the regression estimator for a two-phase sample is investigated. A replication variance estimator with number of replicates equal to or slightly larger than the size of the second-phase sample is developed. In these cases, the proposed method is asymptotically equivalent to the full jackknife, but uses smaller number of replications.

  • For estimating the mean of a finite population, three classes of estimators using multi-auxiliary information with unknown means using two phase sampling in presence of non-response have been proposed with their properties. Asymptotically optimum estimator(AOE) in each class has been identified along with their mean squared error formulae. An empirical study is also given.

  • In this paper, we investigated mean estimation methods in two-phase sampling. Under the fixed expected cost we reviewed the optimal sample sizes, minimum variances and approximate unbiased variance estimators for usual ratio estimator, stratified sample mean with proportional allocation and Rao's allocation of the second phase sample. Also we proposed combined ratio estimator, which uses both ratio estimation and stratification and derived optimal sample size, minimum variance and unbiased variance estimator. Through a limited simulation study, we compared estimators by design effects and came to know that ratio estimator is more efficient than stratified sample mean in some cases and inefficient in the other cases, but combined ratio estimator is more efficient than others in most cases.
