Sinusoidal voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) based on Colpitts and Hartley oscillators are presented. They consist of a LC parallel-tuned circuit connected in a negative-feedback loop with an OTA-R amplifier and two diode limiters, where the inductor is simulated one realized with temperature-stable linear operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) and a grounded capacitor. Prototype VCOs are built with discrete components. The Colpitts VCO exhibits less than 1% nonlinearity in its current-to-frequency transfer characteristic from 4.2 to 21.7 MHz and ${\pm}$95 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ temperature drift of frequency over 0 to $70^{\circ}C$. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is as low as 2.92% with a peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.7 V for a frequency-tuning range of 10.8-32 MHz. The Hartley VCO has the temperature drift and THD of two times higher than those of the Colpitts VCO.
This study presents a practical implementation of a multi-mode two-phase interleaved boost converter for fuel cell electric vehicle application. The main operating modes, which include two continuous conducting modes and four discontinuous conducting modes, are discussed. The boundaries and transitions among these modes are analyzed with consideration of the inductor parasitic resistance. The safe operational area is analyzed through a comparison of the different operating modes. The output voltage and power characteristics with open-loop or closed-loop operation are also discussed. Key performance parameters, including the DC voltage gain, input ripple current, output ripple voltage, and switch stresses, are presented and supported by simulation and experimental results.

Solid-state fault current limiters (SSFCL) in power systems are alternative devices to limit prospective short circuit currents from reaching lower levels. Fault current limiters (FCL) can be classified into two categories: R-type (resistive) FCLs and L-type (inductive) FCLs. L-type FCL uses an inductor to limit fault level and is more efficient in suppressing voltage drop during a fault. In contrast, R-type FCL is constructed with a resistance and is more effective in consuming the acceleration energy of generators during a fault. Both functions enhance the transient stability of the power system. In the present paper, a novel SSFCL is proposed to enhance power system transient stability and power quality. The proposed SSFCL uses both functions of an L-type and R-type FCL. SSFCL consists of four diodes, one self-turn-off IGCT, a current-limiting by-pass inductor (L), and a variable resistance parallel with an inductor for improvement of power system stability and prevention of over-voltage across SSFCL. The main advantages of the proposed SSFCL are the simplicity of its structure and control, low steady-state impedance, fast response, and the existence of R-type and Ltype impedances during the fault, all of which improve power system stability and power quality. Simulations are accomplished in PSCAD/EMTDC.
In this work, we have designed a fully integrated 2.4GHz LC-tuned voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with multiple tuning inputs for a $0.25-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS Process. The design of voltage-controlled oscillator is based on an LC-resonator with a spiral inductor of octagonal type and pMOS-varactors. Only two metal layer have been used in the designed inductor. The frequency tuning is achieved by using parallel pMOS transistors as varactors and back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in an active region. Coarse tuning is achieved by using 3-bit pMOS-varactors and fine tuning is performed by using back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in the active region. When 3-bit digital and analog inputs are applied to the designed circuits, voltage-controlled oscillator shows the tuning feature of frequency range between 2.3 GHz and 2.64 GHz. At the power supply voltage of 2.5 V, phase noise is -128dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset from the carrier, Total power dissipation is 7.5 mW.
Influence of the adaptors on the calibration of $100{\mu}H$ inductance standard was studied as a function of torque, applied when tightening the standard inductor terminal with the adaptor. Two different homemade adaptors of BPO gold-plated brass (BPO-Au) and banana-copper (BN-Cu) were made for the connection between the LCR meter and the inductance standard. The measured inductance (L) of the standard inductor and the contact resistance ($R_C$) between the adaptor and the standard inductor terminal showed exponential decreases against the torque increase from $25cN{\cdot}m$ to $150cN{\cdot}m$. The measured L and the calculated equivalence series resistance ($R_S$) were dependent on the adaptor type as well as on the $R_C$. The results of the adaptor analysis imply that the BPO-Au adaptor with the lower $R_C$ is more suitable for the inductance calibration. The calculated inductance of $99.956{\mu}H$ corrected by subtraction of the adaptor inductance and the contact resistance contributions from the measured value using the BPO-Au adaptor agreed well with the certificate ($99.948{\mu}H$) of the PTB within the measurement uncertainty of $140{\mu}H/H$.
For the purpose of designing an intrinsic safety Flyback converter with minimal output voltage ripple based on a specified output current, this paper first classified the energy transmission modes of the system into three sorts, namely, the Complete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (CISM-CCM), the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-CCM (IISM-CCM) and the Incomplete Inductor Supply Mode-DCM (IISM-DCM). Then, the critical secondary self-inductance assorting the three modes are deduced and expressions of the output voltage ripples (OVR) are presented. For a Flyback converter with constant loads and switching frequency, it is shown that the output voltage ripple in the CISM-CCM is the smallest and that it has no relationship with the secondary self-inductance. Otherwise, the OVR of the other two modes are bigger than the previously mentioned one. It is concluded that the critical inductance between the CISM-CCM and the IISM-CCM is the minimal secondary self-inductance to ensure the smallest output voltage ripple. At last, a design method to guarantee the minimum OVR within the scales of the input voltage and load are analyzed, and the minimum secondary self-inductance is proposed to minimize the OVR. Simulations and experiments are given to verify the results.
저항과 인덕터로 구성된 경우를 RSP(resonant circuit shunting)라 하는데, PMD(proof mass damper)와 비슷한 방법으로 구조물의 공진을 최적으로 조절할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 외부 회로와 연결된 압전 재료를 이용하여 복합재 보의 진동을 수동적으로 제어하는 실험을 수행하여 그 결과를 제시하였다.

Due to the increasing amount of applications of power electronic ac-dc converters, it is necessary to design a single-stage converter that can reliably perform both buck and boost operations. Traditionally, this can be achieved by double-stage conversion (ac/dc-dc/dc) which ultimately leads to less efficiency and a more complex control system. This paper discusses two types of modern ac-dc converters. First, the novel impedance-source ac-dc converter, abbreviated as custom Z-source rectifier, is analyzed; and then, switched inductor (SL) Z-source ac-dc converter is proposed. This paper describes the Z-source rectifiers' operating principles, the concepts behind them, and their superiorities. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed custom Z-source rectifier can step up and step down voltage; and the main advantage of the SL Z-source ac-dc converter is its high step-up capability. Low ripple of the output dc voltage is the other advantage of the proposed converters. Finally, the SL Z-source ac-dc converter is compared with the custom Z-source ac-dc converter.
In this paper, a current-fed two-inductor bi-directional DC/DC converter using resonance (CF-TIBCR) and its design method are proposed. The CF-TIBCR has characteristics of low current ripple and a high current rating because of two separated inductors. Also, it achieves zero voltage switching for all switches and zero current switching for switches of a low voltage stage by using the resonant tank. Besides, a voltage spike problem in conventional current-fed converters is solved without the need for an additional snubber or clamping circuits. As a result, the CF-TIBCR features high step-up and high efficiency. Since the proposed converter has difficulty achieving the soft-switching condition when the converter requires the low voltage transfer ratio, a method that varies the number of resonant cycles is adopted to extend the output voltage range with satisfying the soft-switching condition. The principles of the operation characteristics are presented with a theoretical analysis, and the proposed converter is verified through results of an experiment using a laboratory prototype.
